Training Camp

Since the new CBA was put in place, all the picks in his r1 - 3rd slot have signed deals with a deferred bonus OR offset language, but not both. SD wants the precedent, CAA is fighting it. I think you have your facts wrong.

Edit to add: most normal folks would simply take the $17M signing bonus and get into camp to work/me included.

Is CAA using Bosa to maintain that NFL teams stick to the either or model? Yes.

Are the Chargers trying to force a break in precedent that has implications for all drafted players going forward? Yes.

Since it's a matter of principal and precedent, and lawyers are involved, look for plenty more bad blood and possibly no resolution.

Which is a good mixing of words to avoid saying the No. 2 and the No. 4 pick of the same draft accepted the structure SD is pushing for.   That's the facts according to the quote pulled from ESPN article.

Quote

For instance, none of the 12 players selected with the second, third or fourth picks in the 2012-15 drafts agreed to deals that included offsets and deferments. However, this year, the picks immediately before and after Bosa -- Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz at No. 2, and running back Ezekiel Elliott at No. 4 -- signed deals with both provisions.

IMO, the blame is squarely on Tom Condon who's group has become known to do this kinda stuff at the expense of his client.  Bosa has no leverage.   Sign the deal, take the millions and start your career already.

As for McCarron, with the assumption Andy Dalton plays at a level near his 2015 season,  that puts the Bengals at risk for the Dalton camp to push for a restructure/renegotiation of his current deal.

With McCarron around that gives them leverage and the Dalton deal was not a market deal when it was signed.   It was a team friendly, prove yourself deal and the Dalton camp could push to get some of the money tied to team incentives to be given to him in salary or bonus.

Boy, you really don't see the forest for the trees.

For both Wentz and Elliot, the Bosa position is seeing one (Wentz) getting a bigger volume of raw $ up front, the other (Elliot) is getting a bigger %. That is the trade-off for inclusion the deferment. And, yes, all picks at r1 - 2nd, 3rd, 4th from 2012 to 2105, had one or the other. Here, the Chargers are squabbling over paying money 2.5 months early or later. Retarded, over their own "internal" precedent. Pick one, money now or later, and give up the deferment, or hold the deferment and yield on the % or total raw money.

I'm tired of arguing over stuff that has nothing to do with this team. You've already started to become a bit tiresome, and while its fun to have new voices here, those that spam up the place with a singularly over-argumentative approach do not last long. People just disengage, or hit the "Ignore".

Just friendly advice from one of the very (very) long-time members.

Hey, calm down big guy.  I tend to agree with AMPHAR on this one.   Just agree to disagree.

Can't we all just get along?

The Chargers desperately need public support in SD right now.  They need a place to play, and they need the public to back them, to support them.

That they have chosen this moment in time to try to force a high draft pick to accept terms no one in his slot in the previous several years have accepted? Idiotic.  It's why the Chargers are the Chargers.

They shop the franchise around every few years to other cities, basically giving the finger to their fan base.  The one chance they have to demonstrate a commitment to winning - and they decide it's time to reset the terms for the 3rd pick in the draft .  Amazing.

On the other hand, the very kind of thinking that leads Spanos and his supporters to think they're handling this correctly - it leads to teams that SHOULD really care about top 3 draft slot terms, because they'll be picking there an awful lot.

So important to win this petty little battle with Bosa!  So you can go forth and lose the war every year that is an NFL season.

He's got something left in the tank... Most likely an upgrade over Hunt.

No surprises at all to me.  DiManche has been the fortunate recipient of playing time due to injuries.  Healthy players = unemployment for him.
Hocker has been hurt from my understanding, which sucks that there was no true position battle.

The rest are no brainers, but I hope to see Peters make it back to the practice squad.
Why ??  He's a local Mount Saint Joseph University product.
The fact he's here at all is quite amazing because playing teams like Transylvania, Defiance, Hanover, and Bluffton isn't exactly top competition.

To me, there are two legit surprises

1) DiManche

2) none of those OL from the end of last nights game were cut

Hocker being cut given how poorly Cat Scratch Fever has done so far is a bit of a surprise as well

You keep the bottom tier O-line to play in the most pointless preseason game of them all and have them try to protect the 3rd QB.   Which hopefully will be close to 100% of the game.
