gregcook68 Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Just curious to see how many fans we have like myself who remembers Cincinnati WITHOUT the Bengals??I was 15 in 1968 when they came to town. My dad and I decided to switch from Browns to Bengal fans.I will admit I didn't follow them very close during the 90s but have always been a fan.I transplanted from Dayton, Ohio to Florida in October of 1981 during the SB season with Kenny Anderson and company!Would have like to have stayed and seen a playoff game but it was one of those now or never transplants! What say you??Greg Quote
volcom69 Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Sorry I'm to young I was born in 81, but at least I got to see one Super Bowl. Quote
HoosierCat Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Always rooted for them but only really bought in in 81 during the first SB run. That would have been my first or second year of high school. No idea why I stuck with them, I guess I like having my heart repeatedly ripped out and stomped on. These last few years have been a lot more fun though. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Born in 1970, but was raised to be a Bengals fan (thanks Dad) and went to many games even at a young age.Went to the Freezer Bowl and the Super Bowl that year at 10 years old.Yeah, I stuck with them through the 90's but being away in the Army made that more tolerable.Raising my little guys to be Bengals fans, but my oldest now understands he was born in Texas and claims the Texans.Nothing like getting shots from your 7 year old about how the Texans beat the Bengals in the playoffs the past two seasons. He's no longer in the will. TJJackson Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 The superbowl run in '88 captured my attention and I have been a fan ever since Quote
skyline Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 I was born in 81 and wore my first Bengals shirt at the age of 6 months, so there you go... Quote
Wraith Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 I was a Dolphins fan in the 70's, being from Indianapolis when there wasn't a team I was free to pick any team I liked, and I was nuts about Marine Biology (still am) so I picked the Dolphins. My Dad was transferred to Cincinnati in 1978 but I didn't immediately switch my allegiances. It took the 1980 season and those incredibly cool new helmets (helmet design is important to a 10 year old) for me to switch and watching them in Super Bowl that year sealed my fate. I still rooted for the Dolphins, as a second team, for a while but since Don Shula retired I have been 100% Bengals. Quote
Earendil Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 I was born in '76 and grew up loving the Bengals. I remember the Freezer Bowl, but not much before that. Quote
Dimster28 Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 i never remember Cincinnati WITH/WITHOUT Bengals, basically because i have never been at Cincinnati once in my life.but i have been bengals all my life, dont remember what age it was as i am too young to remember, but somewhere in 1980's Quote

princeton Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 I loved Jim Leclair, and don't recall Bill Bergey as anything other than an Eagle Quote
Wraith Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 If there had been an Indianapolis Colts when I was growing up then yes, I probably would be a Colts fan. My whole family is from Indiana, my Dad and I are both IU Alums and my first memory was watching the 1975 and 1976 Indiana Hoosier teams at 3 and 4 respectively. My favorite Hoosier was always Kent Benson.Thankfully, The Colts did not move to Indianapolis until I was already a dyed in the wool Bengals fan. Quote
Stripes Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I was a toddler during the '88 Super Bowl run. I never really took much interest in football until 2002, so the Marvin era is almost all I've ever known. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 The Marvin era is almost all I've ever known.Be happy about that.No matter how much alcohol those of us that were here for the 90's drink, we will never erase those nightmares.I wonder if we can claim disability due to PTSD from being exposed to such conditions ?? redsbengalsbucks Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I still have gear with the plain Bengals logo on it from before the uni change. Don't remember the year I started being a fan but Kenny Anderson is still my favorite QB of all time. Quote
gregcook68 Posted November 27, 2013 Author Report Posted November 27, 2013 Kudos to Kenny! He should be in the Hall of Fame no doubt! Quote
ArmyBengal Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Kenny Anderson is still my favorite QB of all time.Yep. I still remember him coming out to my grade school and talking to all of us when we were kids.Great person and player. On a side note, I hate when I wear his throw back jersey and everyone thinks it's a Cleveland "Derek" Anderson jersey.I just keep wearing it and keep correcting people. Scottishbengal Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Been a fan since 84 when it first hit the tv screens over here in the UK. Chose the Bengals because I thought the helmets were so awesome. So no I don't remember Cincinnati without/before the Bengals. I can remember my life without/before the Bengals and it wasn't as rich, colourful, or promising back then. Even with the up's and downs (oooh so many downs) of being a Bengals fan I certainly wouldn't change it. Quote
glasgowbengal Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 A fan since seeing brief highlights (as a 10 year old) of SB XVI on UK tv and being intrigued by the game and being upset due to the guys in the cool uniforms, who made an amazing comeback, losing in the end.first, in the flesh game was @SD in 1990 when we won 21-16. hopefully an omen for this Sunday!! kingwilly Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Been a fan since I was very small, used to have my Mom wrap electric tape on my shoes so they'd have a stripe like the football guys. Guess I stayed a fan because my Dad told me every little story about Paul Brown being a God. Impressive even today, if often overlooked by the greater football world. Born in 71, so have enjoyed a full and rich experience of Bengals highs and lows. Freezer bowl stands out, as does the second loss to SF. Spent most of the 90s doing my own sport professionally, cycling, thus listening to Lap as I drove here and far, training and racing my bike. Quote
Kazkal Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 6 years old 1989,Pretty much I lived in Reno Nevada and there wasn't a local team I really loved Tigers SO fell in love with the Bengals and Remained Faithful sense "shrug" Quote
