Bengals @ Chargers Pregame Thread

Huge game for both teams, more so the Chargers though.

A SD win will keep momentuem going following the Kansas City game and keep alive a shot at the postseason, whereas as a loss will effectively kill off any play-off hopes.

A win for the Bengals and a chance to hit the final stretch with some confidence and push for decent seeding in the play-offs whilst a loss will be a set back but they'd still stay top of the AFCN.

Extra pressure on SD - because of the above scenario and also playing at home where they're 2-2 so needing a good performance/win ..... I like the Bengals chances going into this game, get ahead early, take the crowd out of the game and watch the heads drop on the Chargers as they see their season ending in reality.

Injury update from Hobs:

INJURY PICTURE: Friday's injury report out of San Diego is going to be telling. Several key players have yet to practice this week for the Chargers, such as Hall of Fame tight end Antonio Gates (hamstring), center Nick Hardwick (neck), and wide receiver Eddie Royal (toe, chest). Right tackle King Dunlap (neck) and linebacker Jarret Johnson (hand) were limited Thursday. Johnson has worked this week after undergoing surgery last week and if he plays it's assumed it will be with some sort of cast.

For the Bengals, punter Kevin Huber (kicking ankle) went limited Thursday after sitting out Wednesday, but it looks like right quard Kevin Zeitler (foot) is going to miss his second straight game after not practicing again Thursday.

Game blacked out in SD.

Nothing like lessening the crowd noise for the away team !!!

:sure:/>

Sadly it isn't likely to matter much noise-wise. Part of the problem is that Qualcomm is huge, with about 6000 seats more than PBS. So we are still talking about what would be a sell-out crowd in Cincy.

FWIW this game has gone from loss to toss-up in my book.

Sports Betting here has the game very tight with an extremely slight edge to Cincy : San Diego at 20/23 and Bengals at 20/21

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised by either a loss or win.

The Benglas have the talent to beat the Chargers on the west coast, but have been playing poorly over the last few games offensively.

If the Bengals offense is less turnover prone than the last few games, they beat the Chargers.

If not, they don't.

I really think it's that simple as our defense has pretty much been consistent through this point of the season.

With having had the bye week you would expect/assume that the O has worked on routes, plays, throws, line etc to limit the opportunity to give the ball to SD.

The D have had the bye week to prepare for the Chargers and scheme against them.

I feel this game will be really tight and believe the 3rd down conversions may be key - keep the chains moving, keep possession, eat the clock

I'm hanging my hat on Whit's comment when he said that there's chemistry and hunger on this team that's different from any other of the seasons he's played.

Marvin's past records and stats don't mean much to me because I believe and hope the Bengals can ride this Thomas Howard tragedy, Leon and Genos injury high like the Ravens rode the Ray Lewis retirement high last year.

Time will tell.
