ArmyBengal
Only has to do with the thought of him trying to hold the team hostage in regards to either giving him what he wants or draft his replacement. If that's the case, F*CK HIM !!! Scottishbengal
There was a report a while back that the Iggles took a look, but there wasn't a visit or anything. If it was true, I assume they heard "$9 million" and politely hung up the phone. It will be interesting to see if the Bengals turn up the heat. I'm sure Smith's side would prefer to wait until after the draft and see if any teams come calling after not filling a tackle need there. But Smith being unsigned effs up the Bengals' draft and likely forces them into going OT with one of their top 3 picks, meaning one of the three big areas of need (safety, LB and RB) gets shafted. So do they tell Moobs that if he's not signed before the draft they are moving on?If this is the game that Smith, or more likely his agent, is playing it is a very dodgy one. If the Bengals draft an OT then Smiths value (and earnings) immediately drop .... can't see how that would benefit anyone other than Team X picking him up on a reduced wage bill (compared to whats been offered)
COB
Andre's first agent didn't do a good job for Andre, and it looks like this new one might have rolled the dice and waited only to see the bottom fall out of the market. Bad luck for skin zeppelin, though luck isn't the whole story. It's become clear to me that Andre is not too swift.
ArmyBengal
If the Bengals draft a RT, they simply need to say goodbye to big Dre.
HoosierCat
Actually COB I'd say the market has come up a bit over time with the Cherildus and Davis deals. Problem is that Moobs and his agent massively overestimated the top price range. Either they are not yet willing to reset their expectations or the FO is seriously lowballing them. Or both. Kazkal
I'm just confused by the Ordeal,His agent said the offer was a joke well where are the offers from other teams? I Figured his agent would atleast be leaking false info or something.Because right now it pretty much seems like they know The Bengals will be the highest bidder and other teams know the Bengals will be the highest bidder so aren't even making a offer. COB
That agent and Andre could still have their feelings hurt from the Bengals not picking up his option. I read something about the tackle market that said it isn't what agents and players expected it to be because the game has changed.Specifically, it said the read option offenses and even offenses that aren't read option are going to a 3 step drop and getting the ball out quickly. Therefore using tackles to protect a quarterback deep isn't that important anymore. Defenses have to get to the quarterback a lot quicker, and therefore are going right up the middle, making guard and center positions all that more important. Take that Mike Brown!Anyway the article cited various GM types as saying the holy trinity of building a team: QB, Left Tackle, and Pass Rusher, has changed. The tackles are not at the top of the player hierarchy anymore. Sorry Andre Smith!
HoosierCat
No doubt at all that the interior/exterior pay gap on the o-line has closed considerably, though I'd say that's been "evolving" for the better part of a decade. Earlier on you saw guards getting paid "tackle money" (Eric Steinbach being a prime example back in '07). Now the tackle money is moving in the other direction. Back in 2006 when the Bengals re-upped Willie Anderson, they doled out a five-year, $32 million extension including $20 million guaranteed. Seven years late, Moobs might -- might! -- get about the same amount of total dollars, but the most I recall seeing in terms of guaranteed coin for RTs this year was $17 million. I really think that the capping of rookie money has come back to hurt the vets. It makes draft picks that much more valuable and easier to use to replace mid-tier to upper-tier starters. ArmyBengal
Again, i'm at the point that says to go ahead and draft Dre's replacement and immediately following the draft, use the save money to lock up MJ long term. A great big F*CK YOU to Dre !!!

A great big F*CK YOU to Dre !!!At this point, I could see him conceding right before the draft and signing. Then again, I could see him and his agent holding out into summer training camps, waiting for injuries and roster slots to open, trying for a better deal.I think he's shooting himself in the foot if he waits. Then again, I'm ok with him not coming back. I personally think he's vastly overrated. He's good. Not great. You can draft a "good" OT. jjakq27
I hate the idea of having to take a RT in the first round. My hope is that we can get a game changing WR, safety or LB at that spot. However, I have never been a big fan and I get the feeling the staff and management may feel the same way. DJ Fluker."Fluker has more power and far less agility - he's not a FZ cloneIf that's the case, then they'd better invest in the running game more. FZ is good, but he's been shown to be a liability in pass coverage. There COULD be other options to replacing him at RT instead of drafting in the first round. We'll see what happens. HoosierCat
Someone asked Reedy on twitter today if he thought they would draft a tackle to replace Moobs and he believes they won't. Says they are really high on Collins. I've always thought Collins played well when asked, but never seemed to get any playing time except in emergencies. Instead we got dose after dose of Dennis Rolledover. So if they are high on Collins, that would be a first.

But they need to take a playmaker type in the first.
ArmyBengal
I've made the comment numerous times that I thought it was a distinct possibility that they wouldn't draft Dre's replacement in the first due to their thoughts on Collins. Many don't believe that, but it is what it is. Collins was never going to get playing time with Dre on the roster, but that's hardly a knock on his abilities.Trade down in the first (if possible), pick up an additional low 3rd, and grab Brennan Williams out of UNC.Him and Collins moving forward would be ok by me.
