HoosierCat Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 Jake Long has a deal with the Rams. Quote
volcom69 Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 Sounds like the bengals need to work fast, now with Long signed. Quote
kingwilly Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 Now the leading top Tackles are Smith, Vollmer and Winston. Gotta think Smith can stay now... Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 Update: PFT now says no Long deal yet... Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 Per Reedy, Marvin says they are "working hard" to get Moobs re-signed. I picture Marvin and Mike lugging crates of donuts up flights of stairs at PBS. Quote

Walrus Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 I'm sure it's just my ignorance of the RT position and how difficult it is to find quality NFL starters at the position, but I don't get the urgency to sign this guy. As far as I can tell as a fan (granted, a view which is by definition quite limited) he's been flaky at times and seemingly lazy. Yeah, he did get it together and played well this season ... I just can't shake the idea he's a perennial underachiever. I don't mind the team re-signing the guy, but like I said, I don't get the urgency some of you guys seem to feel. Seems we could replace him with a lower-profile veteran or overachieving mid-round pick. Yeah, they'd have to overachieve a little better than recent mid-round OLs like Otis, Eric, Adam, Stacey, et al. Ok, I just talked myself out of that! Anyways, I still don't have a problem with Collins! Quote
Kazkal Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 Per Reedy, Marvin says they are "working hard" to get Moobs re-signed. I picture Marvin and Mike lugging crates of donuts up flights of stairs at PBS.Seems promising because by sounds of things Andre is giving the bengals chance resign him before looking else where.Obviously he's okay with remaining in cinci otherwise he probably would been in philly or somewhere else a day before free agency started.I'm sure it's just my ignorance of the RT position and how difficult it is to find quality NFL starters at the position, .Would you rather have1.)Willie Anderson (in his prime)2.)Anthony Collins3.)Dennis RollandWe made willie the highest paid RT,We drafted BigDre to replace the void that was left when we loss willie.I'd say it's pretty hard find a replacement since they would more likely burn a 1st or 2nd round pick...Then you have to hope it doesn't take 1-3 years for your investment to pay off.Anyways, I still don't have a problem with Collins! I never got the love fest with Collins he never played that great but I guess it beats seeing the 6'9 swing door... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 Seems we could replace him with a lower-profile veteran or overachieving mid-round pick.I've been saying Smith is one of the best RT's in the league, even though almost everyone thinks he was THE best RT last season.I just don't see the logic in letting a player viewed as the best in the league at his position leave in the hopes of getting someone else to overachieve and pray they give you the same production. I'm pretty sure Dalton wouldn't like that approach either. While speaking of Dalton, aren't most people still pretty lukewarm on his long term status and thinking he has to have more built around him ?? If so, doesn't Smith leaving hurt that line of thought ?? Quote
TJJackson Posted March 14, 2013 Author Report Posted March 14, 2013 Now that he Redskins have signed two veteran ORTs, so at least they should be out of the Andre Smith market/>http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9052096/2013-nfl-free-agency-washington-redskins-sign-jeremy-trueblood Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 I think the biggest holdup on Smith is probably in St. Louis. Once Dogra gets Long situated he can turn his attention to his other, lesser clients. I thinks Moobs really wasn't well-served to have an agent representing multiple top tackles this FA period. Quote

GapControl Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 Some mocks now surfacing with us taking an OTExample: http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2013/3/4/4058656/2013-nfl-mock-draft-geno-smith-jamie-collinsIn that mock, I'd see it as quite reasonable to move up a few spots to land either OG Cooper (move up to 19) (Cooper has both center and tackle experience) or OLT Johnson (move up to 15)Note that in this mock, the Fisher kid from CM did indeed fall to 11. Its possible.nice to hear someone talking OG in the first Quote
TJJackson Posted March 17, 2013 Author Report Posted March 17, 2013 nice to hear someone talking OG in the firstYou must be the only member here not to know my three word draft mantra: GIMME A LINEMAN:-) Quote

GapControl Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 just think if we drafted another superb lineman like Zeitler to play C or G. we would punish in the run game. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 just think if we drafted another superb lineman like Zeitler to play C or G. we would punish in the run game. While I agree and would certainly advocate a guy like Jones, i'd like to add to that thought.Just think if we drafted ANY linebacker that worth watching on Sunday to couple with Burfict.Just think if we drafted a safety earlier than the 5th round so we wouldn't have to bring Crocker back off the street.Just think if we drafted a running back to couple with Green and Dalton for years to come.Seriously, I could go on and on. HoosierCat Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 Vollmer signs in NE. Four year deal, haven't seen $ yet. Quote
volcom69 Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 No excuses now for the bengals get the deal done Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 Just saw that as well.I really just think big Dre' and his agent were looking for more money.I also think that plan has backfired on them.Vollmer's deal with tell the tale, but I don't think it will drive up the price. If anything, it will lower it if i'm betting correctly. Reading the tea leaves it sounds like Dogra is half-assing it this time around. Newman, who is also a Dogra client, tweeted a day or s ago that if anyone saw Dogra, could they have him call him as he wanted to get his deal finalized. (With who is not clear but the Raiders have started sniffing around other corners FWIW.) and Mikey has said that the Bengals are waiting for Andre and his agent to engage. Maybe Dogra is hoping the Bengals will get nervous and throw a few more coins on the table, but he's been around a while and should know that wont happen. Brown famously does not negotiate with himself. Quote
