BengalszoneBilly Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 I know the majority of younger members here have no memory of his days with the Detroit Lions, but they may remember him for his post NFL acting career. I'm with the older set who remembers his playing days, and he was a force to be reckond with back in the '60's. Thanks Alex for the football memories from my youth, and the laughs you gave me during your acting career. His best line was from Blazing Saddles... "Mongo only pawn in game of life." Quote
HoosierCat Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Never saw him play, but Blazing Saddles is one of my all time favorite movies. Candygram for Mongo! Candygram for Mongo!RIP, Alex. Quote

volcom69 Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 RIP Alex! Wasnt he the father in that TV show "Webster"? Quote
Wraith Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 It surprised me to se that he had never been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was first team on the all 60's team as a DT, kinda like Dave Parker in that regard. Quote

I was a kid back when he was playing, but I do remember sitting with my dad watching the Lions play on Thanksgiving and his name being mentioned time and time again. Quote
