HoosierCat
After the Bengals got destroyed opening night by Baltimore, they seemed to have been put in the "same old same old" file by the media. Looks like the win yesterday is pulling them back into the spotlight a bit. They make an appearance in Peter King's fine 15 this week (with his usual asshat caveats) and Jay Gruden gets a coach of the week nod./>http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/peter_king/09/23/mmqb/3.htmlThe Cryptkeeper also gives the Bengals some love, especially MJ./>http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/page/lastcall1203/john-clayton-last-call

I think I like flying under the radar better, but that's hard to do when you beat Washinton with RGIII,
ArmyBengal
Lets not read more into this than what it is. It's a win and that's great. However, we put up 38 points and won by 7.Our secondary is terrible. Our LB's are worse than terrible. While I absolutely love what our offense is capable of, they can't play the Washington defense and put up almost 500 yards every week. They will be potent at times and disappear at others.I think they win next week as well and will be happy should they move to 3-1, but that would be exactly where I expect them to be at this point. It really shouldn't be a suprise to anyone.I love the impact getting Dunlap made as well, but I couldn't help but find humor in the last time a Bengals defender had 3 sacks in a game was when Odom was going against a Green Bay backup and abused him, just like MJ did yesterday against a Washington backup. While I always enjoy watching the games, I watch with a tempered expectation, knowing it could go either way. HoosierCat
Lets not read more into this than what it is. Of course. But by the same token, let's not dismiss things so casually, either. Yes, Washington's D was wrecked by injuries, but the Bengals played plenty of bad defenses in 2011 and only managed to score more than 30 points once. If I had told you before this season that, three games in, this team would have the 29th ranked D and the 8th ranked offense, you would have said I was nuts. Plenty of people thought they would be 2-1 at this point, but I would guess that very few would have painted this particular "offensive firepower" scenario. This is all extremely heartening to me, since I did expect the defense to be bad, and didn't expect the offense would be able to compensate. Now, if the O can keep it up for a few more weeks while guys like Dunlap and Allen round into shape, Hall hopefully gets back, Moch comes off the suspended list and Sims gets off PUP, they might have a better shot at the postseason than I thought. COB
The Cryptkeeper sounds like he's Jay Gruden's agent. Anytime an assistant in Cincy does anything good, everyone immediately starts saying they should be a head coach somewhere. Paging Hue Jackson, paging Hue Jackson. Oh wait, you're right here beside us.

That's what it is though. I for one thought the WR corps was in a better place at the beginning of the season than they were at the end of last with Simpson and Caldwell. I was in the minority for the most part, but will admit that it has turned out better than even I expected.I will also agree that having those sh*tty defenses early on helps out while players heal and come off of suspension. I'm wondering how they use Moch in the scheme as it doesn't appear he's needed at DE. God knows the LB corps could use someone with some speed and he was getting time there in the past. Here's to hoping the offense continues putting up points, because God knows they have to. volcom69
The o-line is still new to each other still gelling, but if they could get the running game going again at some point that will only make things better.Same in defense I think things need to change stating in the middle. However I don't remember them giving up big pass plays over the top? Everything I remember is passes over the middle where the LB just let them catch everything. Newman other then that one stupid play I thought was on, as was pacman don't remember Allen though. Clements came out in saftety which I did like, and hope they will continue to play him there some.Marvin said in the second half the redskins adjusted and came out playing the triple option and they were not ready for it because they never saw it on tape. He said they had to adjust in game, so I guess it took alittle time to get used to it lol. As bad as the defense was they also played great at times, and had one horrible quarter. Maybe this week with a traditional QB we will see some improvements or at least I hope.
ArmyBengal
When the Redskins started running the triple option, it clearly confused the hell out of them. They responded reminding the defense someone needs to focus on the QB and make them pay every time they run it.That's exactly what happened and RGIII started taking some brutal hits. Washington realized they couldn't keep exposing him to those types of hits and they moved on. I'll tell you this, RGIII is MORE than feeling the pain that comes along with getting exposed to hits like that. He probably can't find enough ice to makes those pains go away. I kept saying that in the game thread, they started to attack the RB, instead of the QB first. Once they started going after the QB the redskins stoped moving the ball again, until the bengals were up two scores.
ArmyBengal
Honestly, I loved seeing the front 4 slam the sh*t out of RGIII.I didn't wish injury upon the man, but it was nice to see how getting hits on someone can change what it is they do.It obviously changed the dynamic of what they were trying to do regardless of the success it was having. kingwilly
On the bight side, getting Pat Sims and Dontay Moch back and the eventual debut of DreKirk will be seen as a bolster to the D.Now, what they will do about Malaluga is beyond me. Muck and Vinny Rey could probably hold down the middle. As I mentioned earlier, if they never draft another USC product again that's fine by me.Stick to the Big10, ACC, SEC and Big12 for LB's, please. Oh wait, you're right here beside us.Not disagreeing but Leslie Frazier just knocked off the 49rs yesterday...Gruden will stay one more year, unless they progress into the playoffs and win a game. Gotta believe some coaching turnover will occur after this season, maybe in places like Chicago, SD, or maybe even right here in Cincy....? ArmyBengal
If they never draft another USC product again that's fine by me.Yeah, I thought we hit the bonanza when we had Rivers and Maualuga for our LB corps.Rivers never did anything spectacular for the #9 overall and they picked the wrong USC LB that year in Maualuga. Then again, I can't recall them being in a position for either of the other two.Maualuga was just surrounded by better talent than him.It happens, but now the Bengals have to do something to account for his inability.
