jonahdsage Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I understand the thinking that argues it doesn't matter how good your running back is if your O-line is a mess. I would say that's generally true, though not always, and this year an exception would be worthwhile. Would it be crazy to draft Richardson this year, and do all we can to get a guard if he's there? We can likely get a guard next year that would be just as good as a guard we could grab this year (short of maybe DeCastro) but what are the odds we could get a back like Richardson next year? If we can get a stop gap this year, and a boss running back like TR, I say we have to do it. Grab a beast guard next year or work free agency. I just don't think we can pass up Richardson if he happens to drop to us. Quote
volcom69 Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 No way they pass on Richardson if they do I'll be pissed. Take Glenn if he is there at 21, or take a guard with the 2nd round pick. There are a couple good guards in this draft after decastro. Quote
volcom69 Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Unless they get bush in FA they can't pass on Trent if he falls to them or even outside the top 10. Really tough to pass on a franchise RB Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 gimmealinemangimme two, evenYou'll get your two in FA.Their names are Bobbie Williams and Nate Livings. Quote
UK Bengal Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 So true Hoosier it's so true it scares me that it may well happen Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 This organization will have no one to blame but themselves when they see the same empty seats in the stadium for 2012. Quote
walzav29 Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 What scenraio is better? Michael Bush and draft LaMichael James or Chris Rainey in the 3rd. Or Move up and draft Trent Richardson. They will HAVE to move up. Trent wont get past the Jets. Quote
Wraith Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 The rule should always be in any deal, "who gets the best player in the deal wins".Richardson is the best RB prospect to come into the draft in 5 or so years IMHO, he is immensely strong, fast, a workout fiend, he is smart, hits the hole incredibly hard and fast, has breakaway speed, is shifty in open space, has great hands and was used effectivly as a receiver in college against top competition, is a ready and willing blocker. His nickname is the Beast! Richardson is very possibly the missing piece to our offense, he will have, again IMHO, the same impact for us as Peterson has had for Minnesota. If we can fill our other immediate holes in FA (CB, S, WR, G, and MLB possibly) then leveraging our extra draft picks to make sure we get this caliber of player is in my opinion a VERY smart move.Imagine an offense with Richardson as RB, Green as #1 WR, Gresham as TE, Shipley as slot receiver, with a poised and patient Dalton at QB. This is a Super Bowl caliber list of skill positions, yes we need a guard (or two), yes we need secondary help but when a guy fits your system like a glove you do whatever it takes to get him. Quote
Scottishbengal Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Can't see Richardson being there when the Bengals pick @ 17 .....equally can't see the Bengals trading up to grab Richardson.Take a RB from FA ....... I still think Hillis may be a viable option. Quote
UK Bengal Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Hell no to hillis the guys a quitter and we just got rid of one those.(cue army...) Quote
Wraith Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 I believe this is the draft to be aggresive and trade up to get your target, there seems to be a steep drop off at most positions from the top tier guys to the second tier. Ironicly that is really not the case for the interior line or the CB position, guys like Osemele from Iowa State and Zeitler from Wisconsin might be just as good as Decastro and Glenn likewise Claiborne is a great prospect but so are Chase Minnifield, Trumaine Johnson, and Stephan Gilmore guys who can be grabbed later perhaps even in Rd. 3. Quote
skyline Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Richardson won't be there. We'll get a decent RB prospect in rnd. 2 or 3 and possibly pick someone up as a FA. End of story. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Hell no to hillis the guys a quitter and we just got rid of one those.(cue army...)F*CK YOU HILLIS !!! Quote
Wraith Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Richardson won't be where? We have the ammunition to move anywhere we want in the first round except the top two. Quote
skyline Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 Richardson won't be where? We have the ammunition to move anywhere we want in the first round except the top two.Sure, and how many times in recent memory do you remember the Bengals doing that?Who knows...maybe this is the year they change and make a run for something like that, but it would be shocking to say the least. kingwilly Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 Seems simple to me.Sign Forte and draft De Castro. Edit <nevermind>orSign Carl Nicks and draft Richardson. Also, we do need another WR. After the draft, I will begin my efforts in earnest for them to go get Wayne or Colston. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 Saints have put the exclusive franchise tag on Brees. So Nicks will be a FA. Quote
kingwilly Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 Saints have put the exclusive franchise tag on Brees. So Nicks will be a FA.I dreamed a dream.... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 "Be all and end all of free agency" is how I have labeled Nicks. That being said, I still don't think the Bengals are the team to make him the higest paid Guard in league history.Still hoping Hoosier... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 I want Nicks and is arguably the best OG in the NFL. It's a no brainer.I like Grubbs and wouldn't complain about him in stripes one bit.I won't however, say I want a lesser player for the sake of hurting a division opponent.I'll take it, but it's not best case for our team. Quote
membengal Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 I just think nicks price will be outrageous and we wont pay it. Grubbs is a helluva player in his own right and improves us, now. It has nothing to do with "hurting the ravens". Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 I've said that many times as well mem. I simply don't see the Bengals making Nicks the higest paid Guard in the league.I will also certainly take Grubbs with little thought as he does provide a big upgrade at the spot.I was referring to another post made saying how Grubbs would be a better option due to the fact it hurts the Ravens.I just disagree with that opinion, but such is life huh ??For what it's worth, if they get Grubbs, I would still be in favor of drafting DeCastro if he were to fall. That would be an o-line I could really get to love !!!
