HoosierCat Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Per some site named "National Football Authority," the Bengals and Cardinal are talking trade. The Bengals reportedly want to move up to take Trent Richardson. I have no idea what this site's credibility might be but FWIW: http://www.nationalfootballauthority.com/2012/02/per-league-source-cincinnati-bengals.htmlAfter speaking to a team executive on Monday, National Football Authority senior writer Bear Heiser has learned the Bengals are eager to move up in the first round to secure themselves the top running back in this draft class—Alabama Crimson Tide's Trent Richardson.Along with this information, the source also provided info as to who the Bengals have been talking with in the first round and it was none other than the Arizona Cardinals—who are itching to move down in the first round along with acquiring more drafts picks in the deal. The finer details of the actual trade terms were not disclosed but it would be assumed since the Bengals would like to move up, they would probably be offering a swap with their No. 17 pick for the Cards' No. 13 pick, as well as another pick (or two) post-first round. This team executive was adamant in making aware how much the Bengals really like Richardson and would really like to add him to their West Coast offense, which would be a great fit for the Heisman candidate's versatile style of play.I would think that the Bengals would have to cough up at least their second round pick to make this happen, which isn't a prospect I'm rushing to embrace... derekshank Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Interesting that they are targeting Arizona. I wonder if they are concerned that Jerry Jones would fall in love with Richardson (which is probably true).I doubt the Bengals give up their 2nd round pick just to move up 4 spots. Maybe a 3rd round pick and one of their 5ths. And if the draft pick value chart carries any weight at all... that's about right.Richardson still has to fall to the #13 pick for this to even be a topic of conversation... and I'm going on record saying he doesn't make it out of the top 10. UK Bengal Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 This sounds like bs moving up 4 spaces would not get them Richardson he's gone within 10 like derek says Quote
membengal Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 The minor knee procedure may heighten the chance he slips out of top 10. Quote
derekshank Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 The minor knee procedure may heighten the chance he slips out of top 10.We'll see. I'm guessing eyes will pop at his pro-day, and the knee thing will seem like a distant memory. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 There's always the hope that he falls and I also made the comment about how if he falls far enough, I could see the Bengals trading up a little bit. I don't see them doing anything that requires giving up both firsts in a trade. I wouldn't mind a trade up for Richardson, but they would have to do something in FA to account for who they would have drafted that high. Maybe a Grubbs from Baltimore ??Anyway, I think it's silly to make claims who the Bengals are targeting before a player even (See not likely) falls.I suppose if Richardson fell past Arizona, they would be targeting the Cowboys and so on and so on.It would just be easier to have him fall to #17. Can we make that happen ?? Quote
walzav29 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 This team desperately needs people to actually go to the games. Trent Richardson is the only 1st round player that can get that done. It makes sense. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Well, I think it would go a long way to get a player or two in here for the O-line to be able to block for whatever running back they want to plug in the backfield. Richardson sure would round out a nice young trio of him Dalton and Green for years to come. I wouldn't complain in the least. Quote
Sea Ray Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Let's hope this doesn't happen and it'd be very un-Bengal-like. They don't part with draftpicks very often and I sure hope they don't for a RB. I'll be mighty ticked if they move up to take TR Quote

There is nothing comparable to his talent available in FA.History shows that teams that trade up for the players they target do very well. Teams that trade down usually end up as the losers. The Cowboys wanted Emmitt Smith, and they used their extra draft picks to trade up and get him to partner with Aikman and Irvin. There are some legitimate comparisons to be made there. If Richardson is there at 13, and they don't trade up to get him, I'll be pissed. You can't get players or that caliber thy late in the draft very often... and Cincy has more than enough firepower to move up and get it done. The Bengals would do very well to get Richardson at that price. Quote
cincyhokie Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 With the draft being as deep as it reportedly is with interior linemen and CB's, it's the year to do this. Not to mention the fact that we have 2 1st round draft picks. Oh, and another 2nd rounder next season.Have the #13 pick and #21. While giving up a 2nd or 3rd and 5th rounder while still having the ability to draft a stud guard in that 2nd or 3rd round? (assuming we grab a CB at #21)Pull the trigger on it, if anytime is good, it's definately THIS season to do it. Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 29, 2012 Author Report Posted February 29, 2012 If Richardson is there at 13, and they don't trade up to get him, I'll be pissed. Shoot, Hobson says they might not take him at 17 or 21.They could draft Richardson with one of their own picks at No. 17 or No. 21, but that would go against their grain, too. They’ve only taken a running back four times in the first round: Archie Griffin in 1976, Charles Alexander in 1979, Carter in 1995 and Chris Perry in 2004.If they pass twice on Richardson I think the sound of exploding heads might be deafening... He doesn't know anymore than the rest of us. The Bengals weren't going to trade Carson Palmer either, right? The point is that if MB falls in love with Richardson and he is there, he'll take him. It won't matter what you, me, Joe, Butch, or anyone thinks. Again, as someone pointed it out earlier, Hobson's job is set low expectations to avoid public backlash. Or something like that. Quote
wpeldios Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 If richardson falls out of the top 10 its worth talking trades with people because he is an absolute steal at that point. Until that happens though I see no reason to discuss it. Quote
walzav29 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Come on. There is a reason discuss everything. We have 8 week and 1 day until the draft. The guy is a stud. You can't tell me there wasn't a difference between AJ Green and Jerome Simpson. Richardson has Green type talent. It's tempting. Quote
volcom69 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Getting a young RB for the future would be exactly what this team needs. Hope that Glenn falls to 21, if not then take Fleming there and draft a guard in the 2nd Quote

I didnt mean there is no reason for us to discuss it. I meant its not worth the Bengals making a trade with the Cardinals until the draft. Seems like a lot of work for something that most likely wont happen. I would 100% support it though, Richardson is a stud. Quote
Stripes Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I guess it's nice to have a plan in place in case Richardson does fall to 13. Still, they're making it obvious to the whole league.Could just be really early draft bluffing. Quote
wpeldios Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 The nfl network is reporting that Jay Gruden said he would be surprised if the bengals didnt draft a good running back. So the question is how good is he looking. Quote

Also I HIGHLY doubt Trent drops out of the top five, much less the top ten. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 How obvious would it be for any team in need of a running back to target ANY team Richardson should fall to after the #10 spot ??Master of the obvious sh*t right there.Fall to #17 and pass ??WORST DRAFT EVER !!! Quote
Scottishbengal Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 When was the last time the bengals traded up in the draft ?? Quote
