UK Bengal
Class D felony 1-5 years in the lockup New WR in FA anyone lololol
Arkansas Bengal
I don't think he was going to be re-signed anyway. Although he had all the physical tools, it seemed he wasn't smart enough to play at a high level in the NFL. And, even if he beats the drug trafficking charges, the fact that all this was going on in his house shows what an idiot he really is. jjakq27
Crazy. I was wondering why we hadn't heard anything until now.As I have mentioned before, a friend told me some time ago that he had heard Simpson was not going to be charged. He knows someone in the police department and said that the folks in California had messed something up during the investigation. He was told there was a strong chance that Simpson would get off and not have to do any time in prison. However, that doesn't appear to be the case. I'm just wondering what the next steps are. The good thing is they can plan for this since it happened early in the off-season but I would really not have to waste a high pick on another WR this year. HoosierCat
He was told there was a strong chance that Simpson would get off and not have to do any time in prison. However, that doesn't appear to be the case. This is still a long way from over. Remember, Jamal Lewis got busted for trafficking cocaine and didn't do any time.If anything, I think this would help his chances of sticking with the team, assuming he does no or minimal time. Who else is going to sign him now? Bargain + redemption project = fits Mike Brown to a "T".That said, GOD-El would probably kick him out for a year. COB
Sounds like the deal is already struck between Simpson's lawyers and the prosecutor. If that's the case, my guess is he'll do six months. If a deal isn't already in place, impossible to guess.
volcom69
Don't think we will use a pick gonna be a vet in FA I would sayYes a WR from FA because there are alot out there. If they draft a WR thats fine, but wait till the 3rd or 4th round!
kingwilly
Simpson is one Fumb Ducker. This begs the need for not only a very good FA WR to be obtained but also another draftee.
DC_Bengals_Fan
This is still a long way from over. Remember, Jamal Lewis got busted for trafficking cocaine and didn't do any time.Actually, he did serve 4 months. He served it in the offseason so he didn't miss the season, though I recall that his performance the following year was significantly reduced, possibly as a result. Also, there were some other important differences. First, and most importantly, Lewis never touched the drugs. That gave him leverage to cut a deal. Also, I think that Lewis' activities were confined to a single state. I'm frankly surprised that the feds aren't getting involved with Simpson given the interstate nature of the situation, and wouldn't be shocked at all if they were waiting with additional charges should the local yokels screw it up. Could be that the interstate aspect got dropped if the California side screwed it up. Either way, I'd look for Mary Lou Simpson to spend some significant time in lockup. That said, GOD-El would probably kick him out for a year.Bet your ascot. HoosierCat
Sounds like the deal is already struck between Simpson's lawyers and the prosecutor. Yup. Reading what some of the locals are saying over at GB, the prosecutor in the case has been slobbering all over Jerome about how cooperative he's been and what a good guy he is, etc. Basically sounds like he ought to be defending Simpson. And the charges appear to be only about the 2.5 pounds that was delivered to him, not the rest reportedly found in his place.Meanwhile, the .com thinks the league will only give him a four-game suspension. My wild-assed guess at this point would be a suspended sentence, several years' probation and he doesn't get on the field until October. And yeah, the Bengals re-sign him because he will cost about a buck ninety-nine.
COB
My wild-assed guess at this point would be a suspended sentence, several years' probation Straight probation? Can't wait for the indignation tidal wave that will come from the national media. My guess is at least one hack will go the "what about the kids?" route. Truly, what message does this send to the kids? It sends them one they better get used to: there are two judicial systems in this country, so get your ass in gear and make some cash so you can end up on the right side of the fence. Kazkal
We have some young blood at WR I don't see any reason to spend 1st round pick on WR...I'd say add a Vet then draft turn a burn and hope to get lucky.

ArmyBengal
I could care less what they give him. We could upgrade the position.Minus his flip TD, he was horribly inconsistent and runs bad routes. That's not the kind of WR we need for Dalton.Buh bye Jerome... combatbengal
Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson pleaded guilty Thursday to a felony drug charge. I just don’t get these guys. They have the world in their hands and still act like fools. They’re playing a game that all of us would love to do for a living! They’re treated like royalty everywhere they go! They make tons of money. Get to do cool stuff, like start a NASCAR race, attend and participate in pro wrestling events, throw out the first pitch at a ball game, dine with the mayor, governor, etc. No idea if he’ll be on our roster next season or not! Once again it’s a privilege to play in the NFL! Respect that opportunity and enjoy the lifestyle safely and live within the law!
HoosierCat
And the deal has been cut. Simpson pleads guilty to a lesser charge, "prohibited acts involving controlled substances." Faces max of 3 years probation, 60 days jail time and 200 hours of picking up trash on the side of the highway. In America, it's good to be rich. Being rich may have helped him get a good lawyer, but without narcing on somebody this deal probably isnt completed. It is good to be rich anywhere.
