Bengals Ring of Honor

The Enquirer put together a panel of five to review and define candidates for the Bengals Ring of Honor, should such a thing ever actually be started by the team. At this point there are only a handful of teams that do not have a team-based Ring or Hall of Fame. Surprisingly the Steelers are one of those teams.

Here are the initial five proposed by the panel followed by successive rings.

1st Ring

Anthony Munoz

Ken Anderson

Ken Riley

Paul Brown

Isaac Curtis

2nd Ring

Boomer Esiason

Willie Anderson

Bob Johnson (the only Bengals player to have his number retired)

Lemar Parrish

Cris Collinsworth.

Third ring

James Brooks

Corey Dillon

Tim Krumrie

Chad Johnson/Ochocinco

Tommy Casanova.

Fourth ring

Bob Trumpy

Max Montoya

Jim Breech

and Super Bowl head coaches Forrest Gregg and Sam Wyche.

I dunno something just doesn't seem right about the list. One thing stands out, I think Bob Trumpy has made a lot of contributions, but I don't think he is Ring of Honor worthy. I'd also put Willie Anderson on the first list ahead of Issac Curtis. I think Big Willie will be the next Bengal in the Hall of Fame. I bet they left him off the first list on purpose as to not put 2 linemen in the group.

Don't really have a probmlen with the list. I would probably have David Fulcher in there somewhere perhaps over Tommy Casanova. I don't remember much about Casanova - I was a bit too young when he played to really don't know how good he was. Also perhaps Rodney Holman and Rudi Johnson when you start breaking down their numbers. If Carl Pickens and Darnay Scott had been on better teams they would have probably been given more consideration. Overall, I have no problems with the lists.

If it's a ring of honor, I'm for setting really high standards. Put Paul Brown and Anthony Munoz in there to start, and leave it at that.

Also, since "honor" is in the name, Chad can't be considered. He has no honor or integrity. I would erase every trace of him having ever played for the Bengals.

No, no, no. Chad is eligible, as are guys like Dillon, Carson, Pickens, Scott, Tremaine Mack etc. They are all eligible for placement in the Fifth Ring, which will be inscribed on the inside of every toilet bowl in PBS.

While it is true that Halloween is almost upon us, is that any reason to conjure up real-life images of horror? Trampled-Check is out of football, as far as I can tell. Amazing after starting so many games for the Bengals, he leaves and though in the prime of his career as an NFL starter, he can't even catch on with anyone else.

Paul Alexander, why?

Paul Alexander, why?

Good question, COB. I went to Trampled-Check's wikipedia page. Turns out he was drafted in the 4th round out of Central Michigan. And this sentence from said Wiki page is revealing:

"Ghiaciuc's college teammate, Adam Kieft, was drafted in the fifth round. Paul Alexander, the Bengals' offensive line coach and assistant head coach, had also attended Central Michigan University."

Hard to believe that assistant head coach Paul Alexander could have totally whiffed on two straight draft picks, both from his alma mater. So hard to believe, that Paul Alexander himself couldn't believe it, so he kept playing Trampled-Check all through '06, '07, and '08, in the process getting Carson Palmer ripped to shreds.

How can you not have Sean Brewer on this list? You must not have seen him through some kind of smoke screen.

You guys have taken it to a whole new level. This is hysterical.

Gotta defend Mike Martin though. Dude was a good player while here. So I submit Michael Westbrook or Tom Barndt as worthy replacements.

As for the first five Rings I think David Fulcher needs to be there and Sam Wyche and Forrest Gregg need to move up one or two rings. Isaac Curtis is a first ringer in my book too. The Steelers "developed" what became the Cover 2 defense as a way of trying to stop Ike. When guys redefine or change the game that makes them worthy of that kind of recognition. It goes beyond the numbers. Same goes for Fulcher. His quasi-LB position changed defensive philosophy after that. Just look at Troy and guys like Rodney Harrison. Bill Walsh needs to be in there somewhere too.

It's hard to get too knit picky in these things when there are so few spots. I mean you would have to add Dick LeBeau right? He developed the Zone blitz defense in Cincinnati and was the defensive coordinator for the 1988 Super Bowl team. I think Wyche needs to go higher simply because he is one of the most well known coaches in Bengal's history and he created the hurry up offense, the sugar huddle, and a whole new system of calling plays at the line of scrimmage. It really is hard to say who can be a clear cut top 5 guys to put up. I say start with Paul Brown and one other guy and then add one a year after that.

I would DEFINITELY have him in there.....He was awesome and one of my all-time favorite Bengals.

Well I am glad this list is of people that have actually done something and not of just fan favorites. The day I see Reggie Myles name hung up inside Paul Brown stadium is the day I quit looking at porn. I am guessing Steakhouse kid is going to want Paul Alexander's name up there too.

R E G G I E ! ! !

The greatest special teams coverage unit gunner this team has ever seen

(til a 3rd string DL kicked his ass in the locker room)

W O O T ! ! !

Ok can I ask you a questions in all honesty? What makes you think that Reggie Myles is the best special teams players in Bengals history? I mean if you compare the stats, Tremain Mack is far and away better than Reggie Myles, and Tremain Mack was even selected to the Pro Bowl as a special teams player.

In fact I think if Mack hadn't been such a dumbass gansta thug he might have been Dante Hall special.

Well, I think this calls for a new ring. Let's call it...

The Ring of AWESOME

Reggie Myles

Kevin Kaesviharn

Ethan Kilmer

Herana-Daze "Indiana" Jones

Lamont "Dummy" Thompson

Lamont Thompson he has to go down as one of the biggest draft bust of all time for the Bengals too. The guy was a second round pick and got cut after one season. Oh yeah and Charles Fisher...woo the Bengals have had some second round doozies.

You need to add Corey Hall, Mark Roman, and Ifeanyi Ohalete. How could you leave him off this list?
