BengalszoneBilly Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Congrats to Carlos! He finishes with 9.5 sacks, a new Bengals rookie record. He also finishes second among rookies, 0.5 sacks behind Suh.Probably the brightest spot of the year. Quote
Sea Ray Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Thanks to Dunlap this team finished with something they didn't have on Opening Day. A pass rush.In fact they haven't had much of a pass rush for some time now. That's a big plus heading into next year.In fact I can't think of a better draft after one yr than 2010. Dunlap, Gresham, Atkins and Shipley all have a shot at All Pro and with Gee, Muckelroy, Hudson and Stephens they have projects that could pay dividends. If we could draft like that this yr, I'll take my chances in 2011 Quote

Makes me think he could be starter at lineback for this team at somepoint! Quote

HairOnFire Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Thanks to Dunlap this team finished with something they didn't have on Opening Day. A pass rush. Somewhat lost in the shuffle is the way Michael Johnson is coming on. I'm not sure what's needed to get him past the close but no cigar point, but he's playing more disciplined and it shows. BTW, I loved Dunlaps sack today. Started with a bull rush, stopped completely to hold outside containment, then exploded through the blocker when the play action fake blossomed into a pass attempt. I can't begin to explain how rare a play like that is. Quote
membengal Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Johnson had at least one bull rush yesterday that deposited his blocker in Flacco's lap and messed up a third down pass. Between Johnson and Dunlap on the outside and Atkins in the middle the Bengals pass rush was borderline relentless. The Ravens had only 199 total yards on offense. And only 10 first downs. That defensive line had a lot to do with that. Quote

He's not hiring more scouts and he's not getting a GM. Deal with it and move on. In the meantime, keep hoping the blind squirrel turns up a few more nuts Quote

HairOnFire Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Johnson had at least one bull rush yesterday that deposited his blocker in Flacco's lap and messed up a third down pass. MJ made "Pro Bowl alternate" Michael Oher look like he was on roller skates several times. Best, even if sacks are ignored for a moment I'm guessing the Dunlap/MJ combo has resulted in more presnap penalties called on the offense. For example, the Raven blockers assigned to Dunlap repeatedly false started yesterday. Between Johnson and Dunlap on the outside and Atkins in the middle the Bengals pass rush was borderline relentless. The Ravens had only 199 total yards on offense. And only 10 first downs. That defensive line had a lot to do with that. Atkins has managed to pressure the pocket from his first snaps in preseason. He's got a bright future if his body and role aren't changed. BTW, I've never liked Pat Sims and I swear his body has gotten sloppier every year he's been here. Quote
Sea Ray Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 The Ravens OL was called for holding Dunlap on Nelson's INT too Quote

HairOnFire Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 More Carlos Dunlap.Dunlap played like it was Varsity vs the JV. Here's the funny part of the story. Yesterday I watched Justin Smith go off against the Cardinals. And even as I watched the thought kept coming to me. I'm not missing a pro bowl player. Quote

Dunlap,Fairly,Atkins,MJ now that is a young fast d-line that would create alot of problems in the backfield. I would still like to see something done with the LBs in the offseason, its time to move on from Dhani, and move Rey in the middle, with Rivers, and please resign Brandon Johnson as a starting LB, he is the best they have! As much as i bashed Rivers this year the last couple games i thought he played pretty good! Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 Could you imagine Fairly in that line as well if the Bengals go with him in rd 1! I would love it. However, we all know what's going to happen: Head Coach Bob Bratkowski is going to pull a Ditka and trade our entire draft to Carolina so he can take AJ Green. Green will go on to blow out an ACL in training camp and will eventually end up enshrined in the Bengals' First-Round Bust Hall of Fame. But in the meantime, with the sudden loss of 2011's Great WR Hope, Sideshow Bob will go and re-sign Chad Ochocinco (who spent the offseason traveling the globe with Dhani Jones) and "we'll go to war with what we have."
