WLW just bailed on the presser. Basically so most of the WLW staff who are Bengals fans can go kill themselves.

No changes, other than to "we'll" review the coaches and possibly make changes. Mike spazzed when the brought up scouting. That is a hot button issue to him there.

Marvin is obfuscating so fast and hard that WLW on-air personnel back at the station are talking over the press conference bitching about how the Bengals won't tell anyone anything, they just want everyone to buy tickets.

"What a D-bag" - WLW guy talking about Mike while Mike is refusing to even answer how long Marvin's new contract is for.

We won't know until we know on coaching changes. Bet it will unfold slow motion.

Hobson is reporting that the bengals will be coaching the senior bowl, so all the coaches will be intact. No changes.

Coaching senior bowl does not preclude changes.

Not sounding too good for Bengals fans yet. Not very excited

They might fire the water boy!!

Classic Mike Brown. He holds a press conference to announce signing the coach, and now he refuses to say how much Marvin is getting paid, or even how long the term of the contract is.

Marvin refuses to acknowledge that he even wanted anything changed, let alone whether any changes are actually forthcoming.

That was the wierdest press conference I've ever heard from the Bengals, and that is saying something.

Just saying Hobson is reporting the the coaching staff will stay intact

So, When do we go out and trade for Randy Moss?

I was optimistic or like 15 minutes today that things would change.

How can they market this team now?

Hardly. You're the one claiming a head coach with 8 years experience coaching this team lacks enough control to be held responsible for it's record.

That's true (to an extent) of any coach who doesn't have final say over rosters and staff. Doubly true for a coach who works for a GM with a poor track record. If he can't do the things he deems necessary to be successful, and those very things blow up in his face, well, whaddya think?

I embrace change and admit it was needed, but right now I'm having a hard time accepting the idea of a head coach whose team completely bottomed out will be given a new contract and more control.

I won't argue whether it was wise to bring Marvin back or not. I'm the sort that doesn't make rash changes until I've got a plan in place. So if I were to fire Marvin...in favor of whom (who would actually take the job)? There may be answers to that question, but I'd want it answered before I canned Marvin.

As to the control - whose winning percentage is better - Marvin's or Mikey's? Since those are the only two candidates (we're not getting a GM, remember), I have no problem whatsoever giving Marvin more control in this situation. I don't have to claim that it's a globally optimal scenario (it's not), just that it's better than the alternative.

Remind me again what blame Marvin was forced to eat. You just absolved him of nearly all responsibility, and the team just gave him a new contract.

I absolve him of responsibility for the things he can't control, which is apparently the roster, the draft, and the coaching staff. Basically, everything off the field. I give him blame for the things he can control, most notably development of younger players and time management in-game. Playcalling? Depends on what happens behind the scenes, and we don't know. But if you were a DA and you're trying to figure out who went pass happy, who's your suspect - they offensive coordinator who loves the long ball, the owner who's in love with the passing game, or...the defensive guru? Come on. You're not getting an indictment, counsellor.

We're eight years into this thing, right? When does Marvin become accountable for all of his record, as opposed to just a portion of it?

When he gets a boss who isn't incompetent.

For now. Mike said "we" will review coaching personnel and changes may be forthcoming.

I NEED to see a police escort of Bob Bratkowski out of the stadium. Or a news crew filming his reaction as his pass key doesn't work when he tries to enter the stadium.

I NEED it.
