vettespd20
I have been defending Carson for the past 3 years now, but now I cant say a word to defend him. We have to tools to be a top 5 offense this season but he cant seem to put things together. I know we have other issues on offense and its not just him, but he is the leader of this offense and it has to fall on him. Some issuesPoor decisionsVERY POOR throwsBad Timingpre-snap penaltiesI feel that he has been playing scared (of getting injured again) since his injury. He doesnt seem to follow through with a lot of his throughs and he is throwing off his back foot. TO MANY ROOKIE MISTAKES. Again i am not bashing him I LOVE CARSON but the truth shall set you free. BengalPimp
Carson will be a Bengal until he decides to hang 'em up....A better question would be : Who will be our WR's 2-3 years from now? Shipley will be the only one left in 2 years

He and Caldwell have to be an investment in our future
ArmyBengal
Even better questions:Who will be our OC after Brat and how long will it take to can his sorry ass ??Who will man the interior of our o-line that people still think is "better than average" for some reason ?? volcom69
They need to fix this o-line Palmer had no time yesterday to throw at all. I agree some of Palmers throws were horrible, but if this o-line gave him time and he could step up i would like to see if he is more accurate.Cook played horrilbeRoland should not be starting at tackleLivings is horribleWhitworth as much as i like him struggles, and think he would be better at guardWilliams i think he may be the best o-linemen out thereI would like to see Mathis givin a shot to play, i dont how well Collins would play at LT but he did do well in 2008 when needed. How about Stephens i know he was a late pick, but maybe he is better then what they have in there now. They need to shake this o-line up, find a way to give Palmer time. Heck even the run offense was bad yesterday not a very good average.

ArmyBengal
I thought the pocket collapsed around him at times, especially the middle. While they may have had their moments, they haven't impressed me.I've seen other argue that they didn't give up sacks or Carson didn't get hit, but that's simply not the only thing that matters. If Carson doesn't get hit, sacked, or hurried one time the whole game, does it matter if he doesn't have room to step into a throw or complete his arm motion without hitting a defender or his own guy ?? I'm trying to remember so correct me if i'm off here, but on the second INT he appeared to have his arm hit or not be able to complete the throwing motion to what looked like an open T.O.Either way, it's stuff like that I'm talking about with the o-line. I thought he was well protected. Are you kidding me that was the worst o-line outing i have seen in some time. He had no time to throw, when he moved up in the pocket he had no time to throw. Cook was getting pushed back, Livings was pushed all over, Roland was blocking on his back half the game from falling down. This o-line is pathetic! Im not putting all the blame on them, but i wanna see what Palmer would look like if he had time to throw, if he could step into his throws.Watch film from 2005, and then watch it now. Look at the time Palmer had in the pocket, look at the middle of the line where he could step up and throw it down the field. The o-line actully got push then, now they just get pushed back. agreen_112
I would do whatever it takes to get Terell Pryor or the kid from Michigan - the future of NFL quarterbacks. Why can't Palmer play like a Manning or A. Rodgers or similar? Palmer is sooooooo flat and is truly becoming just another Bengals quarterback. I can only stay optimistic for so long, this is annoying.

ArmyBengal
I don't want to see Pryor anywhere near the Bengals. He's a talented IMMATURE kid.I don't think they are the future either. They've been around forever and they haven't overtaken anything to change things to this point.

ArmyBengal
Wasn't there a time when Bengal fans were clamoring for Troy Smith to play QB for the Bengals?I wouldn't really have an issue with a running type of QB as a backup so when he comes in it gives the offense a different look, but that would mean you have to have a capable offense intelligent enough to operate with both styles of QB. It doesn't appear we have that right now. I was in favor of them trying to get T. Jackson from the Vikings to come in as a backup a couple seasons ago. They move in the pocket, find some space, then throw a bullet dead on to a sideline pattern. Carson, unfortunately, doesn't seem to be on the same level anymore, even when he's playing well.My belief is he will play well sporadically this year. The second half of the Patriots game makes me believe he has it in him. Hopefully our line issues can clear up and he can have a couple seconds back there. One thing is for sure, he sucked on Sunday, but luckily the Panthers had the Suck Manual out and were giving a clinic on sucking.
COB
Wasn't there a time when Bengal fans were clamoring for Troy Smith to play QB for the Bengals?I wouldn't complain if they gave him a chance. I think Carson's going to get hurt this year, so either pocket Carson or LeFeouvre or whoever is going to have to play. I'd feel better with Smith, he's seen a lot more NFL action than either of those guys, and his feet would give him a chance with Alexanders masterpiece out there "protecting" him. combatbengal
Got it! The O line didn’t play well. But we can’t keep putting the blame on others! Palmer is taking way to long reading the defense and making changes. Getting real tired of him waiting till the last mila second to snap the ball or wasting a time out because he can’t make a decision! That last drive during the 1st half was pathetic. Why he didn’t throw in the end zone was beyond me! We wasted too much time and ended up with zero points!!We all know he hates to run but dang, make a decision! If nobody is open, run the flipping ball. That play in the end zone to where he waited until the defender was taking him down before he threw the ball away was another example of his lethargic decision making skills. That was too close to being a safety! Another thing that drives me nuts is his poor a$$ excuses in his post-game interviews. We need to work on this and that. We weren’t that good here or there. Let’s call BS, BS! Palmer, you’ve been playing with Chad for years. No excuse for rust or not being on the same page. You threw to TO during the off season, throughout training camp and now three weeks of the regular season. No excuse for not being in step with each other. Dang, you’re getting paid millions to be a professional QB for our beloved Bengals. Grab your pair, be a man, step up and do your job. You’re the commander on the field, Take charge, do your job and score TD’s. No more excuses! We’re not like Buckeye fans; we don’t expect the Bengals to blow out every team week after week. What we do expect is the offense to score TD’s, stop the three and outs, and play like professionals. If your O line isn't blocking, pull them to the side and tell them to block! Step up, take charge of your team or sit on the bench!
ArmyBengal
I'm sick of the apparent lack of discipline and sense of urgency. Carson wouldn't have gotten sh*t for throwing the ball to the 5 at the end of the first half, had Roland gotten his fat f*cking ass to the line. His ungodly lack of motivation was the key to not being able to spike the ball and get the FG going into the locker room. BS on Roland. Again, there are many to blame at this point in time and YES, Carson shares in that.
combatbengal
ArmyBengal, I’ve been saying that for weeks. There is no sense of urgency in the Bengals offense! The Veterans walk to the line of scrimmage and after the play they walk to the huddle. The only players I see jogging are the rookies. Palmer should put a stop to this crap if the coaches won’t! But at the end of the day, weather we win, lose or get blown out, each player will cash their paycheck and enjoy their nice bank accounts! combatbengal
ArmyBengal, You're getting ready to retire right? I'm just waiting to pin on MAJ, then drop my retirement. Let's get together, submit our resumes to Mike Brown and take over coaching this team. Between a medical NCO and a MS officer, I'm sure we can coach them and obtain some more wins. That would be the ultimate retirement job, don't you think? We'd even do it for less money then what they're paying the coaches now. Let's say a 20-30% pay increase then what we're making now! Plus all the benefits that come with the job.

Seeing as how I'm about to be unemployed, anything is within the rhelm of possibility. I would certainly consider a job like you mentioned as my two leading opportunities are "Male Prostitute" and "Drug Dealer". I heard drug dealers make good bank. I have a background with meds and am good with weapons, so I think there's a lot of potential there...
HairOnFire
This one has been coming since the opening half against the Patriots. The only question was when would it be written, and who would write it. So now we know the answer to the question..."Which national media type will be the first to declare an end to Carson Palmer's career. From Mike Lombardi...Palmer a liability in Bengals' offenseSept. 28, 2010 - 8:40 PM ETNFL Network's Michael Lombardi believes it's a "huge concern" that Carson Palmer has become a "liability" in the Bengals' offense."He's not nearly the player he was three years ago," said Lombardi. "His arm doesn't seem to have the same zip to it. He doesn't have the accuracy with the football, and he's not as explosive." Coordinator Bob Bratkowski conceded that Palmer "didn't play well" when his passer rating from Sunday's game (53.3) was even lower than Jimmy Clausen's (53.6). This is nothing new for Palmer. We're not expecting a turnaround.
membengal
I was wondering when the Ken Aderson from 1978 - 1980 part of Carson's career would arrive. It would appear that we are there.

membengal
Not to pimp another forum, but Bengals1181's breakdown of the passing game last weekend at gobengals is definitely worth a read. Thanks for the heads up, Hoosier. I hadn't been over there to read through the threads in a few days. 1181 is one of their more level-headed posters. That just confirms my sense of unease at the problems being spread amongst a lot of players, Carson included. I guess my irritation is about to settle on Brat. This is his offense and his personnel. If we see the issues, surely he does. So figure out how to address it in-season. Shuffle some personnel on the line. Call a different set of passes. Go to runs that accentuate the strength of your backs (that means no more line plunges with Bernard Scott on 3rd and 1, for instance). Fix this.
