gregstephens
fwiw--Mike and Mike were discussing the quarterback rankings thus far, statistically speaking. Palmer is 22nd. The national boys are bashing the heck out of Palmer. I don't think that part is necessarily unfair, but I do find it curious that NOBODY media wise is mentioning the issues with the o-line that are obviously a contributing factor. Don't get me wrong--I still stick to Palmer not being the old Palmer with his accuracy and decision making so far, but the o-line should get some dumping too. agreen_112
I think Brat's holding Palmer back a bit. Also, the O-Line isn't helping his cause. Couple dropped balls by receivers. It was raining in Carolina. He's still getting the timing down with the new receivers... Blah, blah, blah.Guys this may get ugly REAL quick. If Palmer doesn't get his s**t together, T.O. and Ocho may flip! I said it at the begining of the season, it's all on Palmer. He has the weapons. Will he be able to carry the weight that is now on his shoulders. This is it, win now. I may be wrong, but didn't Palmer get off to a bad start in '05? Or perhaps there was a stretch of three games that weren't too good. It seems like things started to click at the end of the season... Can one of you stat guys compare the first three games of '05 to the first three of this season? That would be interesting...

Not potential.Carson is ranked 22nd in passer rating.Tied for 20th with 3 TD.26th in completion % 56.6%Only sacked 3 times29th in average per attempt at less than 6.(Oh and he had a pointless 54 yard hail mary completion in first game)Right now - Im good with 22nd.But I think he is better than that - I may be dense though. We will see in the next two games, because itll get a ton harder after these games. And 22nd rated QB just wont get it done.
membengal
I would not expect Mike and Mike to analyze any issues the Bengals' offensive line is having. Their analysis will begin and end with "Palmer sucks".
COB
it's all on Palmer. Total crap. Your bff is playing like s**t.
agreen_112
it's all on Palmer. Total crap. Your bff is playing like s**t.Central, don't piss me off! We're only going as far as Palmer can take us... It's not looking like it's going to be that far either. Chad had a big drop then came back on the next play with an even BIGGER reception for a first down. He's fine. Anyone care to look up the stats I mentioned. kingwilly
Have a read so you can all see what the issue is:/>http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Brat-not-looking-for-identity-theft/dd26c559-0f8e-489e-a1dd-0f5da876b60cIt's Brat.He is deluded. Choice gems include...Regarding the O-Line:“I think they can; we‘ve got to get better,” Bratkowski said. “I think we’re a little more balanced in throwing it this year. And we’ve got to do a better job in the protection, where last year there was a heavy focus on the run. And less exposed in protection.“They’re exposed more. They’ve got to get used to that element where it’s not all play-action and it’s a little more attempting to get the ball downfield to our skill guys.”Here again, requiring a line to do something they are simply not cut out to do very well. This has been my complaint for years... Brat needs to play to the strength of the things his players do well, ie, go to war with the army you have.Regarding Palmer:“I don’t think that’s of great concern,” Bratkowski said of Palmer’s performance. “Obviously I think he’ll bounce back and play better this week. But like any quarterback he needs help from the other guys. The dropped balls, and the routes being precise and the protections. Granted he didn’t play well. I thought he played pretty well against Baltimore. If everybody bases it totally on numbers, that’s where the criticism comes in and the quarterback always takes the brunt of the heat. I imagine he’ll bounce back and have a good game this week.”First, no one asked abut Baltimore. Second, he tosses the line and WR's under the bus, lame. Brat fails to ADJUST DURING THE GAME to give the guys a chance to execute. He seems to just tell them "do better", not "let's try something that might actually work".Regarding the O-line Personnel: “He’s (Andre Smith) trying to get up to speed. He’s trying to get up to speed and as we go as coaches we’re going to put the best players out there, the best ones at this moment in time,” Bratkowski said. “He has to improve to get on the field.“I don’t want to judge it on one game. Dennis is a proud player who cares about his work like you’re supposed to. I think he’ll bounce back. We’re going to talk about it as we get into the week and see if there’s another way to approach it. We’ll talk through all the options of what we have available and that might mean doing nothing. Have to assess the big picture.”This is where we see them content to wait until DURING THE WEEK to adjust. Why not figure it out during half-time? Surely someone would have an idea as to how to give Roland some help? I cannot accept they thought they had to live with it so they could review it during the week. For Andre, his unwillingness to stay disciplined and be a professional disgusts me. I sense some of this is performance and some is punitive. If he is not ready by week 6, then I will be ready to scratch "bust" next to his name.I like how he ends this, by saying they'll talk through all the options and maybe do nothing...code for "wishing they play better because the players and alternatives we have are not a viable option"...gotta be kidding me. His contention that all of this "Run or Pass" mystery will keep a defense guessing is a joke. When it is a pass, they cannot protect Palmer and Palmer is also prone to rookie mistakes....so bring the heat. In the run game, at least they DO have the ability to grind it out. Do what you do well. When they try to stop the run, get the ball to Gresham and Shipley. Chad and TO will get open but DO NOT force the ball like they are on a distribution plan. This is not Pop Warner where every kids HAS to play.Brat is a buffoon.
membengal
yeah, I just linked that in another thread. Not really making me feel better about things.
ArmyBengal
It can only be "All on Palmer" if the o-line lets him do his job. That's not the case. I can say that while acknowledging Carson hasn't had great games when he did have time. It's really hard to say it's only THIS player or THAT player...
