jjakq27 Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Sure wish the Falcons would have done better today. Also, how is it that we win the division and the Ravens were a wild card yet we start the season on the road? While Pittsburgh opens at home? Quote
volcom69 Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Zimmer didnt even use any exotic blitzes today, everytime he blitzed they knew where it was coming from. MJ didnt even record a tackle today, Rey looked so confused out there, and its time for Dhani to take a seat. I would rather see Brandon Johnson out there he is much better at coverage then any LB we have. I dont think Zim is using these guys right, MJ wasnt even out there much, Rey dosnt seem to be flyin around to the ball liked i noticed him last year in the first game. Tackles there were so many missed tackles behind the line, and out in space. Hope Zim figures something out or it will be a long year on the defense. Quote
Sea Ray Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Take advise from armybengal. i did in fact watch every single play. did you take a nap during the 3rd quarter? besides the kick return we smacked them around the whole quarter and most of the 4th. we had a VERY BAD START and let up stupid plays, and the end result we didnt play good enough to win today. I am not saying it was an even game because it was not. We played A GREAT TEAM AT THERE HOME FIELD and they out played us. But the sky is not falling so lets not fire marvin, bench carson and take a dump on the whole team.OK it's been three hours and my opinion hasn't changed. I'm not impressed when an offense moves the ball after falling behind by 4 TDs. The whole game changes when you're down that many in the 2nd half. We played a very good team (I wouldn't say great) and they thoroughly out played us. I would argue we weren't even in the game. I am not advocating firing Marvin nor do I think Carson should be benched. As a matter of fact I thought Carson's play was a bright spot. I don't think Marvin did a good job preparing his team. I think he should have played his starters more in the preseason. In one game Brady played into the 4th qtr this summer. It showed today. Our Bengals looked horrible today and they deserve to be "dumped on". After that performance I'd be a homer if I didn't.That's not to say that they can't turn it around. One game doesn't kill you in a 16 game season. They just have more work to do than others Quote
COB Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 MJ wasnt even out there much, MJ looked good early in the preseason. After that I thought he looked hesitant and ineffective. That might be why he wasn't in there much. The change in position hasn't worked out like I hoped it would. Quote

Then they should use him like they did last year, let him blitz he is tall can get up and bat the ball. They have too use him in some way, he has too much speed not to be in there. Quote

Let him rush straight up as a 4-3 end. Quote
Stripes Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 They just have more work to do than othersI agree. What needs quelled isn't the commentary on the Bengals s**tty performance today, it's the sensationalist drama we've seen since. A bad loss in New England does not mean "the Bengals cannot handle expectations", or any of the other abstract crap being whined about. Quote

I swear Zim is making things to complicated for the young guys let them go out and fly around. Quote

A bad loss in New England does not mean "the Bengals cannot handle expectations", or any of the other abstract crap being whined about.I think we've seen this team handle adversity. In 2005 there were high expectations and they won the AFCN. The sample size for expectations is too small to really make anything of it.What I do want to see is more consistency. Consistency in moving the ball, consistency in defensive performance, beating teams they should beat, and beating the better teams. All around just more consistency. Quote
Stripes Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 The Bengals can handle adversity, I agree. Can the Bengals fanbase? Well I'm not sure I've seen that... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 It's almost as if some of the fanbase would have rather seen the Bengals lose today so they could come and say "I told you so" and then claim how they wished they were wrong about things, all the while smiling. I don't really think that's the main line of thought, I just don't get all the b*tching. It's not that I liked all of what I saw today. I hated the apparent lack of preparedness. I hated that we had ZERO pass rush. I hated our poor teams play. I hated the fact our once dominant run game never got off the field and then had to be abandoned.I did like that Carson didn't quit. I did like the fact that even when the Patriots KNEW we had to pass the ball, they couldn't stop it in the 2nd half. I did like how things went on the receiving end with Shipley and Gresham.WHODEY B*TCHES !!! Quote
coupdayta Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Again, three TDs in the second half. Except for those two crazy plays, the Bengals didn't look ALL bad out there. Relax people. It's just one game. Quote

I did like how things went on the receiving end with Shipley and Gresham.WHODEY B*TCHES !!!Exactly. The additions to the passing game seem to have made a great difference. Also Bernard Scott looked like the TRUTH out there today. Not that he did much, but he clearly was the better RB today. Makes me begin to question Benson as the starter. Quote
cincyhokie Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 The Bengals can handle adversity, I agree. Can the Bengals fanbase? Well I'm not sure I've seen that...I don't know if I would classify "bitching" or criticism of this team as a knock on the fanbase. I don't think many on here are jumping ship yet. The fans that can't or couldn't handle adversity were gone a long time ago. I call things as I see them. When they play bad and show patterns of playing bad, I'll be critical. When they play well, I'll give them credit. While my initial prediction of 11-5 looks a little generous, I still think this team can make the playoffs. The reality of the situation is that the Bengals are our team, whether they suck or not, there is no stopping being a fan. Somewhere today is the truth. They're not as bad as they played today, nor are they without critical holes throughout the team that without improvement will keep them out of the playoffs. Quote
johnswahoo Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 IIRC The Bengals started out 0-1 last year too and finished up pretty good! 1 game 15 to go. Quote

Kazkal Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 -did the bengals even have one penalty ? Though with how we played wouldn't say that's a good thing...-Carson needs to spread the ball out more once Shipley & Gresham were utilized the offense started having success...-Offensive Line play was pretty Terrible the Weakest link was Livings imo yet he still starts over Mathis...-Zimmer needs to put his foot in some asses on that Defense it looked Terrible...We Need to also go in a Youth Movement I was one of Dhanis biggest fans before he came to cinci but he just doesn't have the hussel...We also need to get Geno on the field as much at possible on passing downs and just in general. They had one penalty. That's really good for them considering what they usually do.I am very concerned about the middle of this defense. I do think that this week will be Zimmer laying down the hammer and I think they'll play better next week. How much better is the question.I'd like to see-Rey Starting MLB Dhani on the bench-MJ Starting SLB when he puts his hand down Brandon Johnson can play SLB-Coats Cut and Tronzo or Coffman activated-Livings Benched and only play on Fieldgoal units and Mathis made starter-Geno and Dunlap In on any 2nd & Long or 3rd down 3yrds +is that so much to ask for?Jones is slowing down, opponents are noticing. time for Rey to come in at MLB - can Roy Williams make the defensive calls? i think he did it in Dallas... Just let Rey make the calls he did it for USC Then Crocker & Williams can help correct the perk of having 2 very Savvy pro safetys.what surprised me was that dunlap did not dress for the game. which i don't understand he and atkins where the best pass rusher in the preseason. dunlap showed he can get after the qb, he was drafted high for that reason. why he did not dress is beyond me. the funny thing is the only time we got a little bit of pressure on brady guess who it was? atkins. atkins and dunlap need to be on the field on 3rd downs. we already know the others can't do it. Aye we also dressed rucker..another slow elephant End >_< Really?I think this team was too high on themselves thinking they were all great. Who is going to stop Batman and Robin, all this talk about the Bengals going to the playoffs ect ect, well i think it showed today they might not be as good as they think. Maybe that will be a good thing for them.Batman and Robin are great they had 200 yards between them...problem is they need Remember Shipley & GResham >_< Because once they started getting the ball the Offense Kept MOVING Quote
Kazkal Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Mathis ?? Who cares ?? They both blow. How did Mathis blow when he wasn't even playing / barley played at all? I Don't recall seeing him in once though I did see 62 being blown up & wiffing on blocks all day long....The guys like a ghost people just go threw his blubber arse.Zimmer didnt even use any exotic blitzes today, everytime he blitzed they knew where it was coming from. MJ didnt even record a tackle today, Rey looked so confused out thereI know i'm a Reyrey nut hugger and all but really don't feel he was confused out there and seemed be one of the only players constantly attacking on almost every play.I was at soccer games all day - my kids are undefeated so far, woot! - but I did note in the stats that Geno got in briefly and had a quarterback hurry in very limited playing time. Hope to see a lot more of this guyShipley stats look legimiately OROY-ish. Let's hope he can keep this up for 15 more games :-)How did the Flesh Zeppelin look? The oline isn't going to be good til he is goodWouldn't mind adding future Oroy to my sig\/ Quote

Pidge Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Damn, we got gaped in the 1st half. Never expected that. Still, winning 24-7 in the 2nd half takes the sting out of it somewhat. 15 games to go. Quote
jonf45uk Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 1st half was appauling. 2nd half was a vast improvement, all be it with the game out of reach. Passing game looked better than all of last year, much better balance with owens, gresham and shipley to look for( just don't look for coats again ) and bernard scott looked good.Defence was embarrassing most of the game. Tackles missed, no pressure and players constantly free to catch and run without a challenge. Completely out coached and out played physically.good to see nugent nail his fg.annoyingly, if we could have kept it tight in the 1st, we could have made it a tense finish.never mind, there's always next year.....jon Quote

I'm acknowledging the fact the Bengals interior o-line is an issue and yes, Mathis is a part of that equation. While he might be the best option at this point in time, being the best option, doesn't make you a great player. See one Mr. Daniel Coats... Quote
