Marvin's comments about Bryant from today

The relevant bits....from Marvin.

On the determining factor in Antonio Bryant’s release: “I just think it’s hard to go forward and not know. It’s important for us to have guys that we are seeing and practicing. It was a good time to give him an opportunity. It was a good time for the football team to put this whole because it was going to be a bone of contention and speculation and all the things it stirred up and get it over with this week. We kind of made the decision in Buffalo on Saturday. Myself and spoke with Mike on it. I thought the timing would be right to put it behind us and focus on this week and then the Patriots which is the most important thing. It provides him and opportunity to catch up with another team, give him a possible opportunity to come back here and whatever that may be.

On questions about the team’s medical staff: “That’s unfortunate, but people are going to question what they are going to question. I think their agents are going to react the way they’re going to react, and that’s the way probably if I was in that position that I’d react too. I’ve had complete confidence, and a lot of those things (being said) aren’t true. The prognosis on guys that were mentioned was exactly the prognosis when they were injured, and I think that’s the only thing I can go by.

“When Chris Perry was injured, I was told it was a bad injury – the ankle dislocation was a bad injury. When Carson was injured, I was told he would begin the next season as the starting quarterback. When Tab Perry’s hip was injured, after the scans were done, I was told it was a bad injury. That’s all I can go on. The track record and the body of work prove itself out that way. I think we’ve taken great strides since I began here in 2003 to give our guys the very best medical care.

“I’ve been very forthright with our players. I’m pushing them every day, but the medical staff is worried about their longevity and their career, because that’s Mike’s (Brown) most important thing. Number one, to be able to walk away after professional football and have a productive life. Secondly, that he’s able to play not just this year, but the following year and the year after that. But I’m going to push, and they know that, until they tell me to back down because the guy can’t do it. Because that’s the only way I think we can run this football team. I’ve got a group of tough-minded individuals, and they like playing with tough-minded guys who know they’ll sacrifice for each other. Unfortunately, it’s a one-day thing, and it’ll go by like all others do.”

We now have word on what happened to Caldwell

"Caldwell sat out Saturday's preseason loss to the Bills due to an abdominal strain..."

Hobson's now talking sensibly again. He's saying that they'll keep 6 WRs and Caldwell is a lock

In fairness to Hobson, it was Reedy guessing 5 WRs in his latest rosterology column...

"Caldwell sat out Saturday's preseason loss to the Bills due to an abdominal strain a misdiagnosed sports hernia..."

Fixed.

(yeah, I know, wrong thread, but just wait for it...)

As a matter of fact I just mentioned this example in another thread and I hadn't even read this thought by you, honest. This proves that I'm not the only one who has these evil sequelae running through my head

Nope, bad guess by Reedy. They will keep six at WR, they have to.

I don't think that there's any "have to" about it. Jermaine Gresham's abilities in the passing game give them the option of going "light" at WR.

To me, the problem is at TE. Gresham is a lock and I doubt they are ready to give up on Coffman. They normally keep 3 TEs, but the trouble is that Reggie Kelly is starting to look his age and Coats is arguably a better blocking TE now. But...Kelly is a favorite of Carson Palmer, and the Bengals have a history of bending over backward to keep No. 9 happy.

That said, I think the odds still favor 6 at WR. But going with 5 wouldn't surprise me.

Munoz was gushing over Kelly during the Bills game, saying he was back to 100%.

I can't speak to your backups, but Gresham is a crazy good fantasy TE option. If the last 4 preseason games I've watched are any indication, he's going to play a monster role in your offense.

Quan's a toss up but I think he makes the roster.

Maybe Marvin would have been willing to let Bryant rehab his knee on Cinci's dime if the guy wasn't a divisive dickhead. The Bengals are not f**king around these days. Fall in line and play hard or they'll just cut you, even if it means eating a $7 million bonus. (unless you're Chad, then do whatever you want).

Are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers laughing at the Cincinnati Bengals over their decision to release receiver Antonio Bryant? Not publicly. But there have probably been a lot of I-told-you-sos.

The Bengals cut Bryant partly because of his knee problems, but there are murmurs that they found out what the Bucs had learned: that he had a bad attitude. The Bengals should have known this, but apparently, they were desperate enough for receiving help to take a chance.

Though some characterized the Bucs as cheap for letting Bryant walk in February, reporters in Tampa say the decision was made long before that - by Bryant himself. Because of his criticism of the coaching staff, the quarterback and the team's medical staff, they were happy to let him go.

Schefter just tweeted:

WR Antonio Bryant's agent filed a grievance Wednesday against the Bengals for $3.1 million dollars that he believes is owed his client.

That is some damned gall. You get $7M by sneaking a bum wheel past the Bengals' medical staff, then have the nerve to file a grievance for being injured on the job - after doing absolutely nothing.

Just when you think things are over, should have known this was going to happen. Hope something happens fast, so this dosnt stick around the org. for awhile.

I don't see this affecting the team on the field. This is between a player who's not on the field and the Brown family coffers
