We're getting really close."Click on the link for more of the article.
HairOnFire
In the Mike and Mike interview Carson Palmer went out of his way to praise the progress Bryant has made recently. Frankly, that means more to me than Bryant's own remarks...which could be taken as little more than an injured player saying what is needed to secure a 3 million dollar roster bonus. Frankly, I've got no idea where this one is headed, but the roster bonus could be enough to end this little experiment.
bwillycuse
When is the roster bonus?I hope this leads to him playing soon. We have had encouraging news with Andre and if we get good news with Bryant our offense will be even better.Good stuff. But I remain skeptical. ArmyBengal
They said if Bryant is on the week #1 roster, he earns the 3 million roster bonus.I'm still not sold on giving up on him. They have already paid him over 6-7 million and unless they have pinpointed where else that other 3 million would go, what's the point long term when looking at the WR position ?? In other words, if that 3 million is what we need to finish up an extension for JJoe, then cool. If not, a healthy Bryant still isn't anything to turn your nose up at.I would just as soon see them go ahead and put him on IR and then give it the season to not only heal Bryant, but to see what else you have on the WR corps and make your cut from there. Just my thought on it and I suppose it would be just as easy to argue the other side of that.
cincyhokie
He actually missed being eligible for the PUP by one practice. He's either on the roster all 17 weeks or he's on IR for the season.
BengalPimp
They need to keep him around. Everybody and their mother is saying the Bengals will release him, but why? To avoid paying him $3 million in an Un-Capped Year? They have already given him money in the form of a signing bonus. If he counted against a "Cap" and they could use that money elsewhere, that would be a different story. You can never have too many weapons, and even if not completely healthy now, he will at some point be waaay more productive than a Matt Jones or Dez Briscoe.....Hope he shows something soon. ArmyBengal
Well, if they activate Bryant and we have to make a decision about one of the younger guys, I just saw where the Rams may have lost their WR, Avery to a knee injury. He's their #1 and have little (see nothing) after him. While they dont have much on their roster, a pick couldn't hurt as opposed to just straight cutting someone. Stripes
I don't care if there's no salary cap, three million is a lot of money and no respectable NFL franchise would just toss it lazily at a player and pray for the best. This "news" increases my confidence that Bryant will contribute anything noteworthy to the Bengals 2010 season about 1%. It does however make me feel like he'll probably stick around. They've made the investment and will move forward with it, even if that means IR. Frankly, I've got no idea where this one is headed, but the roster bonus could be enough to end this little experiment.I think his roster bonus has already been paid.Though that may be the case, the Bengals likely won't be dumping Bryant in the near future. Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer points out that the team already has paid Bryant $7.85 million in signing, roster, and workout bonuses. Per NFLPA records, Bryant's base salary is only $1.55 million for 2010; thus, cutting him won't translate into any significant savings this year./>http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/28/antonio-bryants-contract-likely-will-keep-him-from-getting-cut/I don't see any point in cutting him. They either put him on IR or they play him. After spending $7.85 mill Mike Brown won't cut him in order to save $1.55mill. If he does then we can bet that his knee is really screwed up

ArmyBengal
There's an article on the official site about how they found more things wrong with Bryant's knee no one was aware of and how they have been able to treat all of that with the hopes of him coming back 100%. I'm still of the mindset that he stays with the team. They seem to have already invested in him for the season and it appears he is getting closer. I really do want to see him get better and be a part of this team.Smith said now that the problem has been located - it’s not so much in the knee but in the structures around it such as the quadriceps muscles - there is hope that he’ll progress even quicker./>http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Bryant-upbeat-amid-cut-speculation/910cc601-48bd-4813-ab3c-811b864ed60b
HairOnFire
I think his roster bonus has already been paid. The article linked in the first post speculated about a 3 million dollar roster bonus to be paid if Bryant is still with the team on opening day. If that's inaccurate then so be it. FWIW, I just attempted to copy and paste the relevant bits but when I followed the link it took me to a note saying the article has since been deleted from the official site. bwillycuse
Just heard that Bryant practiced with the team today? ArmyBengal
I have been and remain pretty excited about what he adds to our WR corps if he is healthy.Much like the defensive front 7, he would allow different looks and keeping players fresh.I'm rooting for him to get back on the field !!! ArmyBengal
Again, if it's something not involving the knee itself and something muscular they think will be ready to go sooner rather than later, then keep him on the roster. I'm only going by what I read and have no other idea than that. So, I will simply sit back and see how this unfolds, but still don't want to see him released. There's been a lot of stuff written about Bryant and his contract. All us fans can do is go with "the latest". I would tend to think that Mike Brown, or other owner, would not give a huge signing bonus and a roster bonus in yr one of a $28mill deal.
