membengal
Per Hobson's blog:/>http://blogs.bengals.com/2010/08/17/sun-shines-on-bengaldom/Zimmer, by the way, is furious with his defense’s performance in the first two games. And while they would feel better if they were playing better, remember what linebacker Brandon Johnson said a few weeks ago:“He’s better at fixing things.”Well, Zimmer says he’s got a lot to fix after the Broncos threw for 257 yards.“We’re not a very good defense right now,” Zimmer said. “Not good. Overrated. The things we do, we’re not paying attention. Believe me, there will be things emphasized.Delightful news. It's why the D's uneven play in the first few preseason games has not concerned me, because I know that Zimmer won't let anything slide under the "it's just pre-season" mantra. I am so much more relaxed as a fan knowing that Zimmer has control of the defense. I only wish there were Hard Knocks cameras around to document him emphasizing "things". ArmyBengal
Wow, you have to love how harsh and stinging that is to get so fired up after only 2 of 5 preseason games.Get'em Zim, get'em !!!
BengalszoneBilly
It's good to see one of our coaches show some fire!
derekshank
I know if I was a member of this defense, and my coach used the word 'overrated' to describe us... I'd be motivated to prove him wrong.
HairOnFire
Raise your hand if you knew what this thread was about just by reading the "Zimmer's Mad" title. Seriously, did you even have to open the thread? I guess Zimmer has a right to be mad because the Bengals starting defense has been gashed in both games, and IMHO only managed to stiffen a few times when backed into the Redzone, thereby defending a much smaller field. I admit I feel compelled to make excuses for Leon Hall's last performance. A very bad game from a very good player. But beyond that? Crappy safety play from both of the starters and an aging MLB routinely exploited in pass coverage are the first two places I point to. And sadly, only one of those problems looks like an easy fix to me.
membengal
Not all that bugged about the S play myself, hair, as Crocker has not been on the field much and Williams has been pretty active. I still am not a huge Ndukwe fan, so the more he's out there, the worse it can look, at least from where I sit.I am decidedly not worried about Hall. As for LB, I am certain we will see more and more packages with Rey and Johnson on the field together.I really think it is more noteworthy to the extent Zimmer is not pleased with effort and fits, and am glad he's addressing it sooner rather than later. I do worry some about them "resting on laurels", and am sure that Zimmer will not let that happen.
Stripes
I'm glad Zimmer's taking it more seriously than I am. I really don't see much reason for serious concern that the Bengals' better half will play poorly this year; early, late, or often. The run defense still looks rock solid too. Kazkal
Putting Dhani on Royal was like giving them a free touchdown.
volcom69
I think they need to be concerned about the pass rush, and im not sure thats something Zim can fix. At some point its up to the players to get some push and play more physical at the point of attack. I just dont remember last year them getting pushed around like that. Its preseason and maybe thats why, but i think they should play like they practice or like they game is a real game.As far as Hall goes anyone notice he was playing so far off the receiver. Watch Adam Jones he plays tight and bumps them coming off the line, and Hall plays so far back, and plays everything in front of him. Not sure why he is doing this once again i dont know if did this last year, but so far not liking what i see from him.I do like Dahni at times in the middle, but he is getting so slow and i think we saw that last weekend. I like Rey there but if he is not ready then dont put him in yet.I am alittle worried about the defense so far and the good thing is its just preseason. Like i said so far i have seen no push or the defense playing physical. If they play like this during the regular season then all of last year was just a tease. So i hope Zim fixes what he sees, but i think the players need to play much better

Last year he was pretty physcal at the line, so i figured he would do the same this year. Well maybe when the real games start he will. Kazkal
As far as Hall goes anyone notice he was playing so far off the receiver. Hall always seems to play off the WR,It's rare that he's actually in press. Not sure why he is doing this once again i dont know if did this last year, but so far not liking what i see from him.Well It's probably because he's one of our slowest CB's(Not Ratliff slow just not Jjoe fast,Jjoe tends to press because he has the speed to recover.Last year he was pretty physcal at the line, so i figured he would do the same this year.I remember him doing it quite abit last year too because I commented about him constantly getting picked at for short gains. So with him playing so far off the QB has an easy compliction and if the reciever is fast and makes a move then hes off the the races.I think this week agaisnt the Eagles with be a good test. I know its preseason but this is the big preseason game i think where they play the whole half. I saw the Eagles will play the whole half, so i think it will be a good test for the defense. It should tell us if they are taking a step forward or a step backwards, unless Zim dosnt do any kind of planing. Guess we will see

volcom69
Zimmer challenged his guys and i thought they came up big. I thought the eagles were going to be a good test and they did a great job. The d-line got great push, and good pressure, corners did pretty good and Adam Jones so far im excited about him as the nickle corner. Keep being mad at your guys Zim, and challenge them every week i would love to see that intensisty all the time
COB
Did you guys see JJoe crush Maclin's shoulder in the Eagles game? First guy out on the field pounding Joseph's shoulder pads was Zimmer. Bengals looked to be bullying teams out there this year, thanks Zimmer!
