What if CJ Spiller was sitting there at #21... Would you pull the trigger? Benson is not signed after this year and Bernard Scott is good (maybe will be great), but still an unproven #1 RB.

Nope.

Agreed,.. We will re-sign cedric

Who is this year's Chris Perry?

I suggest we trade down a few spots, allowing some other team to grab Spiller. Then we'll take that player, whoever he is.

Joking aside, no I don't want a running back.

I love CJ Spiller, BUT we have to give credit where credits due. Benson ran his a$$ off last year. I'm not kidding. The value will be good and he should be available in the 5th round. LeGarrette Blount. He is a good backup for Cedric and B. Scott is CJ Spiller. If Benson went down Blount can take the pounding. No doubt. The Bengals can get him late, late in the draft.

Not a position of need. And if there were one in the draft so breathtakingly good that you just have to drop everything and take him, he'd be gone way before we pick anyway.

There it is.

What?

I think he's saying we don't need two of the same player.

No, not in the first, but the Bengals certainly have to find a backup bell cow in the event something happens to Benson or they want to give him a breather. Yes, Blount is the guy I'm looking at in the later rounds as well. No, I don't care that he hit that dude at the beginning of last season either, as he will present great value in the late rounds. Speaking of that, has anyone heard what that dude said to Blount to make him drop him like a sack of crap ??

I'd pass on CJ because I would even think about taking him... We have scott he is a speedy shifty back if we want a Running Back to replace Cedric The Following year then look in the mid to late rounds for a bruiser maybe a Blount in rnd 4 or 5...Running back along with QB & CB would be one of 3 positions I'd hate to see in top 3 rounds...

PS,Plus more likely CJ Spiller will be gone anyways Several Teams before us all can use running backs & I'm surprised there hasn't been alot of talk about Spiller to the Texans who are in a desperate need of a RB...

No, but more because I'm not sold on Spiller. IMHO the Bngals do need to sh*t or get off the pot regarding RB. IF Benson isn't the answer beyond this year, then we need to find a prospective replacement "bell cow." IF he is, then they need to pay the man.

The problem is that we keep shoving our offensive needs off into the future. WR is a mess, but no one is anxious to burn the 21st on that. TE has been a mess forever. Now next year we face both Benson and, potentially, Chad leaving in free agency. It would be nice to find an answer -- or at least the possibility of one -- at at least one of the spots this year. Given that Marvin wants the Bengals to be a run-first offense, RB arguably makes the most sense.

All that said, I don't see an RB in the first couple rounds. But in round 3, especially if we pick up a 3rd round comp for TJ, keep an eye on Ben Tate. Bengals love Auburn backs.

:lmao:

I didn't think it needed to be spelled out, but yeah....the bell cow argument. Because not only don't want another guy who won't be able to hold up if given the ball more than 12 or 15 times a game....Spiller would play a specialty role the Bengals have already filled rather brilliantly using a late round draft pick.

And for whatever it might be worth I agree they'll probably draft a RB, but no....I don't think they have to, and no...I won't be a bit concerned if they don't.

So, yeah. There it is.

Oh, they've s**tted.

Just because it doesn't stink....don't think they haven't.

In fact, I'll argue they've pinched off a near perfect loaf.

Nobody loves Benson more than me, but IMHO extending him is both a priority and something that can be placed upon a back burner. He's under contract for a year and he can very easily be retained for an additional season with a tag if needed. So if they want him Benson is a Bengal for at least two seasons, and that's plenty. In fact, when you think about the wear RB's endure it may be perfect. To be fair, I'd love to see the Bengals extend Benson's contract if the terms are reasonable. But it's simply not a deal they have to make now. It can even be argued that Benson is better served by a contract extension now than the Bengals would be.

Frankly, RB is a team strength just as it is, and every RB on the roster is a young player. And if you want to expand things a bit there's even a young fullback-in-waiting.

Oh yeah, they've s**tted.

We have more pressing needs. RB is not a priority. If some are willing to burn a 1st on a RB, why not a TE like Gresham? Sorry, I won't start that again. But WR,TE,S,OL,DE are positions that should be taken care of first. If Spiller is still available at #21, get on the damn phone and see if anyone is interested in trading for that pick. Done !

If they don't come to an agreement regarding the CBA I don't believe there are any tags in 2011 (assuming there's even a season).

I'm assuming with no CBA there won't be a season. And that's how I'm guessing things will remain until a new CBA, with restrictive tags and a salary cap, is signed.

Furthermore, before any lockout can take place there will be TWO college player drafts, this years and the next.

I do want to see the bengals come out of this draft with a rb. But not in the first, and not a Spiller type. I want a big back for next year to pair with Scott. And if Spiller is there, you are in a perfect trade down situation. Got on the line with the chargers and get some picks.

IMHO the Bengals have never been better set to draft the BPA from start to finish. I've never been a proponent of this for Cincinnati, but this year it finally makes sense. At least to me.

This feels to me like a year in which the Bengals will make a really wacky pick in either or both of the first two rounds that will send this board into meltdown mode.

Note: wacky =/= bad

I also expect they'll eventually work something out, but what the new tags end up looking like is anyone's guess.

And even if the tags stay the same, the Bengals' track record with tagged players is miserable. Nor would I expect Benson to greet being tagged enthusiastically.

That's all I'm really concerned about. I don't really care who they pick as long as the pick causes a fanbase meltdown. :)

I'm rooting for either kicker or Tebow at 21!
