Mike Brown's love for Carson is limitless. I can't believe he would bring a guy in who would openly criticize Carson Palmer. Just don't see it happening.

But if he did come here, TO would show Chad how to run after the catch. In his day that guy, when he would succesfully catch a pass, was unbelievable against cornerbacks. It was awesome to watch, though I hated him.

Just what they need, two me-first loud mouths dropping passes in the twilight of their careers.

No thanks, the Bengals' have Jerooome Simpson!!!

"With the 21st pick, the Cincinnati Bengals select...Arrelious Benn, wide receiver, Illinois"

I don't want to hear this come draft day, and neither should you.

Benn makes TO and Chad look like Cris Carter, as far as catching the football goes. Dez Bryant is probably the only other WR that will have a chance to be selected in the first round, and he's sure to go in the top dozen picks. Otherwise, you have to hope that BayBay Thomas can learn to run NFL routes or guys like Jordan Shipley and Gilyard can beat the physical CBs in the NFL, by the time the Bengals pick again at #54.

Do you think the Bengals would give up a 1st, 3rd and a conditional pick in '11 for Brandon Marshall? I might be OK with it, but I'm sure Mike Brown wouldn't, or do you see what the Cardinals are asking for to part with another malcontent and oft-injured WR in Anquan Boldin. Undoubtedly, either of those players will command a contract lengthier and for a higher dollar amount than TO, or Chad, for that matter. The other thing I like about signing TO to a 1-year deal, as it gives us a final year to determine if either Caldwell or Simpson will ever develop into starting-caliber WRs, as each are at the crossroads of their careers in that regard, IMO.

i wouldn't care if we got Marshall n he wanted to be the highest paid receiver...he deserves it!

Not really,.. I like chad on and off the feild more than marshall, its just he's all denver had... Yes he's good, but larry fitz should be the highest in the league.

What? No love for Andre Johnson? Anyone?

Oh absolutely. When he's healthy he's the best receiver in the league period. He's always put up great numbers and great plays in an offense that is C+ at best, usually with no running game to support him. His only problem is injury history.

For the cap gurus, does anyone know what type of financial impact it'll have on the team if we cut Coles in an uncapped year? I like Coles' intangibles and professionalism, but I don't know how the Bengals can take on another high-salary at the WR position with him still on the roster, be it TO, a high-profile trade, or a first-round draft pick.

There's no cap to violate so there's no cap hit. It would save Mike Brown whatever his base salary is for 2010

I'm fully on board with the possibility of signing T.O.

Apparently I still have one foot firmly planted on the dock, but yeah....after flat out rejecting the idea initially....it does sort of grow on you if you let it.

I'm no cap guru, but I'm guessing the financial impact is minimal due to the coming uncapped year. Best, I've always felt Coles deal was a temporary fix deliberately structured in ways that allow the Bengals to dump him after one season, not two as so many claim.

Coles is due to make 4.5 million in base salary this season. Chad makes an even 5 million. So if Coles could be cut without serious ramifications AND Owens agrees to play for one last season at a comparable amount?

Yeah, I could get onboard with that.

This would be a great move!!! I can't wait to see T.O., my favorite WR btw, in stripes.. This is something I've been talking about for the last 2 years.. Make it happen, finally, MB!!

Greatest news since my hibernation...

From a football stand point, he's an ideal fit. He's a big, strong, field-stretching guy, that gives Carson another target and opens things up for Ceddy. Whether his personality would fit on this team or not is yet to be seen.

I dunno I would think we would take a Cap Hit and enough to make Mike Brown not wanna flush all that money down the drain after just one season...Maybe they were able structure it to protect themselves but I couldn't picture coles signing it if it had the possibility of only being a one year deal.

Again, I'm no cap guru, and I've never pretended to be one. But the only scenario I can think of where cutting Coles would trigger immediate cap consequences is if cutting him accelerates his signing bonus hit and pushes the Bengals over LAST years cap. Because in the past exceeding last years cap meant your cap space was reduced by an equal amount for the coming season, right?. But does that risk still exist when they're about to go uncapped?

As for the matter of flushing money, does overpaying for Coles services two years in a row make last years error any easier to swallow? And if the decision to retain Coles really is dollar related, wouldn't Mike Brown prefer a move that actually saves 4.5 million real dollars over any that is related to fake money cap savings?

Well, keep in mind the previous contract he signed, with the Jets, was valid for less than 48 hours.

I was watching Mike & Mike In The Morning, they had John Clayton on and he said he could envision TO being brought in and Coles being let go and drafting a WR of the future.

I gotta say, the idea of TO and Chad on the same team scares me to death, but I'm onboard for bringing TO in for a year and drafting a WR high in the draft and not having to rush him on the field. Let's be honest, rookie WR's don't produce very much their 1st seasons and TO is way better on the field than Coles by a longshot.

I could see it as a real possibility b/c Mike Brown is always looking for a discount b/c he won't pay top dollar for guys like Brandon Marshall or Anquan Boldin and he won't lose any money like other years by cutting Coles b/c there's no salary cap.

What? No love for Andre Johnson? Anyone?

Andre Johnson is a beast!!! So is Fitz...

Here's my thought...Get on the phone with the most dysfunctional organization in the league (no not the Raiders) THE LIONS...and see what they want for Calvin Johnson...If that dude ever gets a QB...Forget about it!!!!

I know Detroit would never trade him, but put feelers out there be aggressive Bengals...get on the damn phone, find out who might be available, and for what price.

These guys agree. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/310103-now-is-the-time-to-trade-calvin-johnson-while-they-still-can

I'd give them our r1, r3 and Anthony Collins for Calvin Johnson.

If he turns around and has 1,000 Yard season I'd say makes it less of a error,Everyone was ready to cut Odom after one year...(With that being said I don't care if coles stays or goes he's a nice guy but his production was a disappointment.)

Chad being on same team as TO would be interesting since both give me damn ball type WR's but at same time their friends so maybe it would work.

I'd be willing to give up This years 1st and next years 1st for Calvin,Him with a elite QB would be scary and I think with Calvin Carson could look like a elite QB again

Yes.

A 1 and a 3...throw in Collins...done.

or

This years 1 and next years 1....DONE.

Just get creative, and MAKE it work.

After thinking about it, I still hate TO. If I had a gun to my head and they said cheer for TO or they pull the trigger, I'd have to tell them to pull it.

That said, the talk about Calvin Johnson, Give them whatever they want as long as its not a key player. Id gladly give 2 firsts and a player. Maybe more.

My guess would be that Coles had a downed year not having the Offseason to work with Carson to learn the system that he'll come back year 2 and be a respectable WR... :P Could happen

I think the Jets knew more about Coles than we did. He's not the same player he was five years ago, and New York basically told him to find a team that was willing to pay him what he deserved.

I don't see "the system" as being a reason for a down year from Coles. It's obvious the Bengals scaled down the passing game more than in any year of Marvin's tenure, and Coles is a veteran. I didn't see Coles get much seperation from defenders the entire season, and it's obvious he's slowing down.

As far as trading for one of the Johnsons or Fitz, it simply won't happen. Those guys are amongst the best WRs in football, and it would almost take a Ricky Williams type deal to even garner any consideration from their teams.

I say release Coles, sign TO and get a guy like BayBay or Gilyard in the 2nd or 3rd round. TO is still one of the five best deep-threats in the NFL, and we need to be in "win now" mode.

I don't see any rookie WR in this draft class instantly fixing the passing offense, or becoming a bonafide deep threat in '10, and a trade will cost us more than just draft picks.

I am not a fan of TO.

He has diminished skills, has a very volatile and childish personality that could be toxic to this team. The guy is radioactive.

There are better options.

Donte Stallworth and Antonio Bryant immediately come to mind.

Ah....If we only had a GM who could orchestrate such a trade.......

Wow, overreact much?

Are you frickin retarded? Give them whatever as long as its not a key player...2 first round picks are 2 key players

Picks are always a risk. And no WR in the draft will have the effect over the next 2 years that a Calvin Johnson would have. Its a moot point because it would never happen. This team isnt that far off, and Calvin Johnson would get them much closer than anyone at the #21 pick and a similar pick at that point next year.
