kingwilly
"multiple cake games coming up"This is dangerous thinking. The Bengals are in no position to take any opponent lightly. Nothing of the sort. The question is, what do the give up in the draft next April if they trade their first next year? Right now, it's a late 1st round pick. If they can get an impact player now, do it...from Glazer's recent online article: "... the Chiefs recently say they were sending out a similar message: Look at our roster and make an offer for anybody besides our QB Matt Cassel."Ok. I'd take Dorsey for an r1 pick.Quentin Groves is also mentioned.Look, the bottom line is that the loss of Peko and Odom, unless addressed with new, proven talent, could serioulsy derail this team's chances to play good enough D to get to the post-season. SupaBran
I agree, if nothing is done I will have loss some hope for this season! We couldn't get pressure as it is and those were our 2 best D lineman! Our offense blows! They are good in spurts but I have no faith in them! If we stand pat, this D will only get worse! I would gladly give up our 1st rounder for Peppers! Who are we gonna draft in the late teens, early 20's that is better than Pulius Jeppers? While I don't think we'll do anything b/c I'm a pessimistic person! We did try to trade for Shaun Rogers so I wouldn't be completely surprised to see it!
blueridge
Clinton McDonald, probably. Would not be surprised if they signed Chris Harrington off the Cardinals practice squad. A big opportunity here for Michael Johnson. After watching the Titans debacle in New England, I bet Tennessee would be open to talking trade for Kyle Vanden Bosch. Thankfully we still have Geathers, Tank, Fanene and, especially, Pat Sims.

Ug we needed more speed as is not to lose it...Size of our Dline.Robert Geathers 6'3 280 (seems lost alot of speed when he plays heavier)Frostee Rucker 6'3 285 lbs (always big de)Atwan Odom 6'5 280 lbs (improved his play alot but now he's gone) Faenene 6'4 292 lb's (DE/DT)Tank 6'3 305 lbsPeko 6'4 318 lbsSims 6'2 325 lbsMcdonald 6'2 290 lbsMJohnson 6'7 260 lbs (our only speed on the Dline...)I think were missing speed on our Defensive Line hence why our pass rush is so hot & cold. Pidge
At least enquire about Kampman and/or Dorsey.
Clackwoods
It does not look good for Odom. Even a mild Achilles strain can take months to heal. What are the options?1. Trades: There was the recent article about us trading Collins for Kampman. Not a bad option at this point. I did not like it much when the article came out but with Odom probably done, it must be considered. Or maybe a move for Kearse. I think Kearse's tank is empty but that is just me. Another option could be Julius Peppers. Given Carolina's needs, we could package Collins and Jerome Simpson and make a case for the trade.2. Shuffling our roster: We have Rucker, who always seems to be hurt, and Fanaene. Fanaene can rotate at DT, and played OK today. Rucker needs to show he can stay healthy. We could activate Clinton McDonald from the PS, or bring back Harrington, who I thought showed real fire in preseason.3. FA's: We could bring back Eric Henderson. probably other on the street to look at as well.Should Peko be lost, we can also go with some guys we know, like Orion Harris, or a FA such as Dewayne Robertson. Or even bring back John Thornton...not that I think that is a good option. At a minimum, should either be done, there will be some roster moves, as being down to 3 DE's and 3 DT's is not enough depth.Your smoking a crack pipe if you think they will give up Peppers for Collins and a second round draft BUSTno, not at all. in fact, we could get very aggressive and offer picks as well. Peppers got tagged. he is a FA. we could trade/sign Julius long termdepending, Odom could take a very long time to recover. I am not overly confident in Geathers/Fanaene/Rucker/Johnson. I would be willing to give an r1 for Peppers. straight up. Also, depending on salary cap, I would make a hard run to bring Richard Seymor here. Look, the success of this team will be predicated on the defense. Everythign should be on the table to address getting the D back to full strength, or better. This is a real chance to make a run. Nothing should be excluded. Two things are wrong with these scenarios. 1. Julius Peppers will not agree to come here. We are not going to give up a first round pick to have a guy for 10 games. He had his little trade list of four teams and they all ran 3-4 defenses.2. Do you honestly believe the Raiders are going to trade Seymour right after they gave up a first round pick to get him??? And if Al did do this do you really want a 30 year old DE who is going to cost us a first round pick??? Again, we aren't leasing anyone for that kind of cost. Our best option is to go after Kapman. He has a relatively manageable contract and he would come relatively cheap. Cheap when compared to those other to boneheads your talking about. If we can't get him then maybe we can explore a trade for a 1st round bust such as Jamal Williams with the Falcons. To be honest ourselves, we need to face facts. Mikey isn't going to do s**t but resign good old Johnny boy. When is the last time he made a trade do to an injury? Ummm Never
Clackwoods
"multiple cake games coming up"This is dangerous thinking. The Bengals are in no position to take any opponent lightly. I daresay theytook the Texans too lightly. You can't get complacent in this league, the teams are too closely matched in talent. It isn't like this teamhas a reputation working in it's favor to get inside another team's head. If anything most teams probably are feeling pretty good having them on the schedule and like their chances. The Bengals need to feed off of this and have an "us against the world" mentality. The Raiders, Browns, and Lions in successive weeks is the epitome of CAKE games. Don't give me this Oakland beat Philly crap either, because they still suck bad. We were abysmal last season and we tied Philly. They don't always come with their head out of their rears. Also, we have San Diego, KC, and a beatable NY Jets team on the schedule

Geathers is not that great of a pass rusher, i think Fanene is the best we got right now, and thats just sad. I cant wait to see MJ more now and i hope he does great givin his chances.I dont see this team doing anything to get better up front, and its a real shame they could be a good defense, but now will probably suck without the pass rush. Losing Peko for any lengthy period would've been more harmful than losing Odom for the season, IMO. That's not to say losing Antwan is nothing, of course, but I do think his contributions were a bit overrated post-Lambeau.
Kazkal
Mcdonald is a Defensive Tackle :/ with 4 Pure DT's and 2 Hybrid DT/DE already on the roster I really hope it's not the case I like Mcdonald but I like passrush more. HairOnFire
Great news, I think. Losing Peko for any lengthy period would've been more harmful than losing Odom for the season, IMO. That's not to say losing Antwan is nothing, of course, but I do think his contributions were a bit overrated post-Lambeau. Odom might never have another game like the one against the Packers, but I'd say he's been a monster in every game played, including those that weren't as impressive from a stat standpoint. For example, he's been pretty steady about producing sacks in almost every game, and we've already had multiple threads about other Bengal players receiving credit for sacks that Odom caused. Furthermore, look at the blocked kick he had already produced in the Houston game. He's played big in nearly every game. Losing Peko hurts some, but it's a very managable loss. The exact opposite is true in regards to Odom, who has been the biggest difference maker on this defense, against the run and the pass. Defensive MVP, in my opinion. membengal
My fear? Losing odom has the same impact on the defense that losing palmer had on the offense last year.My bad mood from this game stems from odom's loss. Just the suck. kingwilly
Yup hence if we truly want to win they need try find impact guy to replace him,vs practice squad fodder...If how the Bengals react and what they do to address losing Odom is similar to what they did when Reggie Kelley went down, then we will know if they are truly serious about winning this year.If we sign te DE equivalent of JP Foschi, then I will be very disappointed. I do not think promoting Clinton McDonald is enough. They need to make a push and get outside their comfort zone.HoF, agree with assessment of Odom. Defensive MVP for sure. Kazkal
Hey Foschi was upgrade over coats But ya fact they made coats the starter the guy who was going to be cut if it wasn't for Injurys..They have what 24 hours left to pull a trade? \fingers crossed. HairOnFire
My fear? Losing odom has the same impact on the defense that losing palmer had on the offense last year. Agreed, and not just because of the loss suffered in the pass rush. The bigger badder version of Odom was actually holding the edge against the run at least as well or possibly better than Justin Smith ever did. Now factor in the loss in flexibility the defense gained when shifting a player of Odoms size and skill level inside to DT. I don't know how you replace what's been lost. The idea of a trade certainly makes more sense today than it did 24 hours ago, but I have to wonder how likely an 11th hour trade is under these circumstances. Teams will look the Bengals over, smell Odom's blood on 'em, make a demand that makes Mike Brown momentarily lose bladder control, and it'll all be over before it ever really began. Best guess? It's your turn, Michael Johnson.

SupaBran
I think were f**ked! I would love to name people that would upgrade us, but I don't have that much time! Our safties are awful! All of our linebackers are severely underachieving this year IMO. Our line doesn't get much pressure unless we send a blitz. I think Geathers should be released b/c of the money he's making b/c of one year or lose the weight and get back to being a pass rush specialist! I hate our coaches and their "philosophies" they beef everyone up b/c we play in the AFC North! I can't wait to see them beef MJ so he loses all of his athleticism! If we had Dwight Freeney he would be the fattest midget in the league!
