Exacta
Gotta drop these 2. This is a special team and these guys are not near the level of what the rest of the squad is doing. This is the opportunity to take the organization to the next level. Cut these guys. This team has every chance to win this year and make the playoffs. Why keep these players who week after week fail? Unreal! Been a fan since 1987 and this is something I will never forget. volcom69
It is what it is, chances are they will not. Coats last week had a good game, he is just inconsistant. I agree though they need a TE, i do like that Foschi guy, but they need someone with good hands. Well i feel the same as everyone else on St. Louis
NJ29
Foschi appears to be a better pass catcher but I'm sure they keep Coats around for what they see as reliablity, in terms of assignments anyways.

St. Louis hangs on till the bye week. They bring in someone they can practice with for two weeks before putting him on the field. Brad goes Fredo in the lake and we never see him again coming out of the bye.

They were able to get through the divisional games and it didn't cost them. I think they might be able to see how they do against Houston and Chicago before the bye. The problem is that he may keep it together for a few games then implode again. As for Coats, remember he was their third string TE going to the season. He had the dropsies last year too. Not too many replacements available at this time.
Kazkal
Louis-I can't believe there isn't better option out there at this point.Coats-Never liked the guy as a player,He was known as a receiving tight end who really isn't one now he's considered our best blocking TE because we have no other blocking TE's...AT this point I say start Foschi Activate Coffman and let coats watch in street clothes. SupaBran
I agree that he will redikulusly last until the bye but I forsee tons of boo's the next 2 weeks as we play at home and he will inevitably f**k up at least 5 more times before the bye week!I like Coats but this dude is not a very good receiver and he wouldn't have even made the team if Reggie Kelly didn't get hurt. Btw, I hope Utecht never wears the stripes again!Chase Coffman is such a great pass catcher to not be playing! He won the Best Tight End in college football for cheese n' rice! So he's not the best blocker right now, so what? He's a big body that will eventually learn the nuances of blocking but for now, if we're running, take him out the game for Foschi or another tackle! Sometimes it's easy to forget these guys are people. It's clear the guy's suffering. I really hope he gets it together and this doesn't end his career. I say that as someone who cares about my fellow man. As a fan, though, I want to see his body dumped in the Ohio, because it's sheer luck that he hasn't cost the team a game yet (though you could make a case that he did against Denver, but I can't pin that on him). But I'd still rather he turned it around. That said, they have to do something soon, because his instability is starting to screw with Shayne's confidence and mechanics now, so this could go from bad to worse quickly. redsbengalsbucks
I gave the stats for this years TE's a couple of weeks ago and showed that, even though they have two backups playing, the Bengals TE stats from last year are very comparable if you extend Coats and Foschi stats out for the entire season.Dropped passes are bad anytime, but both of these players would not have any receptions if Kelley and Utecth were healthy. We have to remember that Coats has been praised for his run blocking this season, I will also add that Palmer has been upright more often this season too. If Coach Lewis likes his effort, I have no problem with his production. It is rare that a third stringer can come in and contribute at any position. He has not been as big a liability as most third stringers would be.Coffman, should be working his butt off learning how to block, he is missing a great chance at playing time. He must be a horrible blocker right now though, if he has not even been activated.Even though St. Louis has been with the team for a long time, and was very consistent for most of it, it is time for him to go. Bring back the undrafted rookie from camp, he cant do worse. Stop the madness before it does more damage to the mindset and mechanics of the Bengal kickers.Oh and WHO-DEY

I know the kicker would want some time to get the timing down, but nothing screws timing up more than never knowing if the ball will be there. I also believe that the Bengals could plan to do this only to refrain if St. Louis has a couple of good games. I feel for the guy, because he has a Steve Sax type block. He could be o.k. for a few weeks, only to suffer a relapse at a crucial time. Maybe soP is afraid of Brad filing a Workers' Comp. claim... They would have needed a TD on the last drive and not just needed to get into FG position otherwise. A huge, stonkingly massive difference in how you defend them. Give him a boot in the ass! It doesn't sound like Marvin is planning on doing anything:“I think it is a little bit mental, and I’m glad we were able to come through it in the end again today,” Lewis said of his snapper. “We’re working hard with him and just trying to help him to deal with it. We’ve got confidence in him. Yeah, last week we looked at some other guys, but that’s just what you do, you look at some other guys. You go with what you know and what you expect. He’s a great professional and pro, and we’re going to keep hopefully helping him with technique and some things, just the things we’re trying to do.”

Don't read too much into anything Lewis says. Also, note he admits they have been looking at replacements already. I'm going with the after-the-bye week prediction. delhole
True BSL has been the chronic pain in the ass of every fan this season but I'd be really suprised if he were let go. As Lapham put it earlier tonight, he went from one of the best to the very worst in a matter of a few games. Just look at his player profile on Bengals.com and read the stat line of his career. Not to mention his punt snaps have been up to par so far. It's %100 mental on FG's. Fromm what I saw, the first FG attempt on Sunday was snapped high but the hold was solid and Graham, as a veteran, should know how to adjust. That kick was sad. BSL will be on this team until the next loss. W's are his best, and only, friend right now.As for Coates, he had a bad game. To come out and say he should be cut because of one bad game well..... have you looked at our TE depth lately?

Ickey44
Coates isn't, and shouldn't, go anywhere. He's part of the reason Cedric is racking up yards. Now as to why he's on the field in an obvious passing situation is beyond me. Foschi has shown he has much better hands and hasn't dropped a ball all year that I've seen. Foschi should be in in that situation, not Coates. I blame that on Brat.
