THE BOYS BACK!!! YEAAA!!! WHO DEY!!

I knew you'd be happier than most. I'm happy too. What a GREAT 50th birthday present for me! Thanks Roger!

Billy, No!

That's like somebody bashing your teeth in, and then you thanking them when they stop... :P

At my age, you learn to be thankful for the little things in life. :rolleyes:

Just to throw it out to any one doubting the possible 3-4:

Linebackers;

* 58 Darryl Blackstock OLB

* 55 Ahmad Brooks ILB

* 50 Eric Henderson OLB

* 93 Rashad Jeanty OLB

* 59 Brandon Johnson OLB

* 57 Dhani Jones OLB

* 95 Roy Manning OLB

* 50 Jim Maxwell OLB

* 51 Corey Mays OLB

* 99 David Pollack OLB

* 56 Anthony Schlegel ILB

* 51 Odell Thurman ILB

This list does not keep me from drafting Rivers at 9 if Ellis is gone. This looks like a lot of camp fodder to me.

Blackstock Who??

Brooks Hasnt done anything yet, hurt all the time

Henderson He is not a LB he is a DE

Jeanty CFL retread

Johnson Who??

Jones Guys who play Rugby during the offseason to not change my draft plans

Manning Who??

Maxwell ditto

Mays 2 career tackles

Pollack prepping for broadcast career

Schlegel cut by the cowgirls

Thurman can he still bring it and can he be reliable off the field?

BIG Questions at LB for me.

After looking at that list of LBs, it is painfully apparent that the Bengals have decided that the "Quantity, not Quality" strategy is the way to go for this year. A few of those guys have upside, but when Dhani Jones is your only "sure thing" at LB, you have to consider Rivers at #9...if Ellis is gone.

The list of LB's makes me sad. Could be the worst group in the league, despite some potential upside from Odell and Brooks - guys I'm tired of counting on after 3+ seasons. Pollack really can't be taken seriously at this point, unfortunately.

Jeanty and Dhani should be depth players, but here they're the most accomplished backers on the team. OUCH.

Pollack should be discussed as a DE, anyway, if at all.

As for going LB in the draft, I'm fine with it, but about about Mayo instead of Rivers?

That remains to be seen. I've gotten the impression throughout the whole Odell saga that Thurman was beyond deep in Marvin's doghouse. That it was more like Marvin never wanted to see him in the locker room again. So I think he's far from assured of making the final roster, even if no more off-field crap pops up.

I'm as cynical a b*stard as you're likely to meet (well, besides Shula maybe), but even I have to say, after all this time he deserves a truly fresh start. To me, if he's kept clean to Roger Goodell's satisfaction, and he's presumably made progress against whatever demons he has, then he needs to come in fresh. No baggage from 2006. Doesn't mean you necessarily count on him, but give him a real chance with none of that 'doghouse' crap. I mean, it's been two years. Let it go, Marvin.

But that said, he's still arguably the best LB on the team right now. And with Pollack's retirement looking more and more likely, and Ahmad's recovery from groin surgery going slowly, I think its tough to walk away from Odell even if you do draft a LB in the early rounds.

Well, that might work, but first he has to get his weight above 120 lbs, right? Or was he at 340? ;)

The reason I believe you can count on Odell, unlike Chris Henry, is because Odell has been out for 2 years. He has learned what it's like to work 9-5 and he's had to struggle to get by. The NFL is all he has left. Either play football or work construction. I really think this taught Odell a good life lesson and forced him to grow up quick. Henry got suspended but still got to play. Odell won't jepordize his career again.

Odell will have to prove himself, obviously. The oppurtunity for a starting position is there for the taking. Either he still has it or he doesn't. I like his chances considering the level of talent we have at LB.

.... Can't wait for a good story/interview released by the Bengals PR dept about Odell.

I agree completely.

What ever happened to Lemar Marshall (I think) the veteran pickup that got hurt early last season?

Its April guys, we have lots of camp fodder at LB, there are only 4 guys there that are possible starters this year:

Brooks, Henderson, Jeanty and Thurman. Thurman in 2005 could start on almost any team. Brooks and Jeanty, when they played upgraded the defense. Remember when Brooks went down? Our defense became a joke. Jeanty is a tough, max effort guy every play. These 4 LB's offer a good core to work with. In this draft I don't see a LB worth a #9 pick, later rounds sure. Given Brook's injury, a groin which takes along time to heal, I think they have to come out of the draft with at least a 3rd round guy. Still, all in all, I see LB as a position of concern below dline, oline, RB & WR.
