ShulaSteakhouse
The one thing Mike Browns knows how to do is set up an offensive line, I'll give him that. Cincinnati ALWAYS has a good offensive line.So great they've had one player make the pro bowl since the 1980's. I'll add this line to the Bengalszone Mike Brown fan signature lines. TJJackson
Bobbie can play center. This game sounds fun!I'm torn, though......should I go with "Brad St Louis can play quarterback"or"Carson Palmer can be our long snapper"? Thanks Shula, Now that I'm permanently attached to every one of your posts showing my positive outlook, maybe it will spread through Bengaldom. You know damn well the pro-bowl is a popularity contest, don't judge our line by that dude. There are a lot of great lineman that don't make the Pro-Bowl. Palmer was the 4th or 5th LEAST sacked QB last year... Look over the years, I didn't say we have the BEST line, I said we ALWAYS have a GOOD line. Our Offensive Line has been above average for many years! If you call that supporting Mike Brown, which I really don't, then call it what you want. The man does keep a good offensive line here in Cincinnati and it seems as if protecting Carson is a priority. That's the truth! Hopefully tagging Andrews plays out to be a smart move. I really don't think they would tag him as a backup, Stacey will be a full-time starter next season.
volcom69
Ok i like stacy and all but this move just shows how stupid this management is here with the bengals. We are now paying 3 tackles top of the line money, when last year they let a great guard slip by so instead of frachising Eric they frachised Justin. So now justin is going to leave Eric is over in cleavland where i think they now have a pretty good line and he played real well last year for them, and we are left with 3 high priced tackles. Oh and by the way this defense has done nothing to get better i really dont know what they will do in free agency, but like other years probably not much. So can somebody please tell me why Marvin and company is so great for this team why this team manages its money so bad, why we are paying 3 tackles such high money when one is on his last leg when Levi played like crap and now we must have the best back-up i guess to be getting paid like that. Whatever things to me just dont make sense anymore and i guess they are not willing to put a great team out there that there fans can be proud to watch each week. So if someone could please tell me where management heads are at when they make calls like this, cause i would really like to know.
generaldreedle
I have no problem with Stacy's designation because you can never have too much depth on your lines, and I believe he will be Willie's replacement when Willie decides to retire. Stacy's continued developement, under Willie's tutelage, will do nothing but help the Bengals in the long run.

Stacy's continued developement, under Willie's tutelage, will do nothing but help the Bengals in the long run.You have to have a problem with it when you have a team in a league with a Salary cap. If he signs the Franchise contract tender (He would be the dumbest human being on earth if he didn't) he gets a one year deal at the average of the top 5 highest paid lineman in the league. That then means that with Willie's contract, which was the highest tackle salary in NFL history at the time he signed it, and with Levi's huge contract, the Bengals are now paying 3 of the highest tackle salaries in the league. Now it has been a few months since the season ended, but I do believe that only 2 tackles play at a time. So now the Bengals have all this salary space tied up into an "insurance" player when they paying veteran minimum salaries to starting LB's? Now how much since does that make? Spread the wealth some! With this move, the Bengal's front office solidifies themselves as the dumbest front office in the NFL.
sparky151
I'm sort of ok with the move. The team needs to sign Stacy long term. The worst part is that last year when Stacy was an RFA they were supposedly trying to strike a deal. The team probably offered something like a 3 mil per year contract and Stacy asked for 4.5 or 5 per year. Now agreeing to Stacy's request looks like a bargain.. ArmyBengal
I don't mind the move "IF" they can get him to sign a long term deal. Here's my question though...Why would he ?? I haven't read the whole thread and I can't say as I am all informed on this issue but...Why would Stacy sign long term when he could take this year as one of the top five OL in the league and then hit the free agent market again next season ?? If the Bengals tag him again, he couldn't help but be the happiest man in the NFL... The problem for the Bengals is, what else do they do ?? With the issues they have in the O-line, something had to be done. I agree with the "sort of" ok with this move...WHODEY !!!

Guaranteed money. The franchise tag puts 7 million and change in his pocket, but compare that figure to the long-term contract that Robert Geathers signed. HoosierCat
Why would Stacy sign long term when he could take this year as one of the top five OL in the league and then hit the free agent market again next season ??Two words: Levi Jones. Imagine Jones had decided not to extend his deal and become a UFA in 2007. What would his value have subsequently been with not one but two bum knees? I would estimate very little. If the Bengals want to keep Stacy they will have to pay, that was always true. But it's also in Stacy's interest to work out a long-term deal, since he'd get a lot more than $7.5 million up front.Edited to add: Marvin has this to say on da site today:Lewis expressed disappointment that the Bengals haven't been able to reach a long-term deal with Andrews' agent, Rich Moran, in the wake of the 2006 long-term deals with the starting tackles, Anderson and Levi Jones."It's been an ongoing thing for a couple of years now," Lewis said. "It takes both parties to come together. I think we've been more than fair. I feel good about that. A couple of years ago when we were facing that with Levi, Willie and so forth, these guys got signed. It's up to the player, too, to say, 'OK, this is what I want to do. ... (The numbers) aren't much different. To push forward, it should be done that way. I think it's really a maturation of the football team to have that. You can always sit around and possibly make a dollar more somewhere else. ... I'm disappointed with that process.":grumble: Y'know, I haven't had a lot of complaints about how the Bengals are conducting their offseason so far...that could change if the Stacy situation turns into one of those public, "it's the other side's fault" negotiating-through-the-media bits. HairOnFire
It's probably just another example of my always sunny "feel good" disposition....(ahem)....but despite the frustration being expressed I was pretty encouraged to hear Marvin say the numbers "aren't much different." Let's face it, Stacy Andrews is being paid huge coin due to his future potential, not his past production, and there's a substantial risk that the two parties will be miles apart in negotiations of that type. But that doesn't seem to be the case here. Instead, they're apparently hung up either on small amounts or structure, and as both sides have plenty to gain from an agreement I can't imagine that one side, or perhaps both, wouldn't compromise at some point. They'll get it done.
Spor_tees
I pray that they do get a deal in place before he signs the franchise contract in order to save a ton of cap space
BengalszoneBilly
Here's my problem with Andrews. He's a relative newbie to football. He played absolutely NONE in high school, and just five games in college with Ole Miss. This is glaringly evident in his run blocking, which is his weak point. Sure, he can pass block, but at 6'7", 340 lbs, he better be able to get in someone's way!I'll confess he has potential, but as things stand I see him as a one dimensional player. DRAFT MORE LINEMEN!
