HoosierCat
Well, something is definitely up. Florio got ahold of the 1st league injury report and gives some highlights, including...WEDNESDAY INJURY REPORT HIGHLIGHTSThe first newfangled midweek injury report was released on Wednesday. The report includes information on injured players who missed practice, who had limited participation in practice, and who had full participation. And, for all teams except the two (the Colts and Saints) who play on Thursday night, the report doesn't contain the whole probable/questionable/doubtful formula. Thing. So it's hard to tell at this point who's injured and nevertheless fully participating in practice. Here are some of the highlights.(snip)Bengals defensive end Frostee Rucker, who is slated to be suspended for Week One, is nevertheless out with a hamstring injury. Receiver T. J. Houshmandzadeh missed practice on Wednesday with a knee injury, and cornerback Johnathan Joseph missed practice on Wednesday with a foot injury. It just won't end, will it? BengalszoneBilly
Hey Walzav, I hope it's not too late to cancel the nut kicking request, and if it is, bill me for a bag of ice to help ease his pain.
ShulaSteakhouse
What the hell is wrong with Joseph's foot? Either it's healed or it's not I would think? If they're just easing him back into the fold, why not just say so?Obviously TJ at this point would be the biggest concern. Yet I think if it were serious, they'd have signed someone by now.I am preparing for a rough start to the season, and hope things just get better as the year goes on. HoosierCat
not to mention the best owner in the leagueErr, what team are you a fan of, again? The Bengals, of course! You know, I think it's so sad that bengals.com doesn't talk to Mike Brown more often. Every time they tap his 40 years of football wisdom, I learn something new. For example, there was this in the story:GH: Sam coached one of the best periods. The '80s were exciting. PB's run from '70-75. And the last four years have been interesting. MB: I'd like to be a playoff team year in and year out and get to the Super Bowl and, who knows, win it one of these days. That would be a great exciting thing for everybody in town to experience. I keep my fingers crossed that it might happen.Wow. I mean, WOW!. That just totally redefined my definition of what a president and GM does. Here I was under the mistaken impression that it was their job to make a team a "playoff team year in and year out and get to the Super Bowl." But in reality, what they do is "keep their fingers crossed that it might happen."That in turn has led me to a new understanding of the Bengals' struggles all these years. Why, the problem hasn't been the lack of a GM at all -- it's been that there's too many of them! Every year, thousands and thousands of misguided fans cross their fingers and hope that this is the year, and have unwittingly created massive confusion by interfering in Mike Brown's primary duties! You know what they say about too many cooks spoiling the soup. We have too many cooks! So this year, I urge everyone: don't cross your fingers! No hoping! That's Mike Brown's job and we need to let him do it!

skyline
sprained knee means what... a couple weeks?Depends on the severity.Really, though...if the injury was so bad, I'd have expected PFT or some other rumor site to be all over this by now. I understand that the Bengals could be keeping it hushed in hopes that the Ravens won't be aware of it yet, but it'd be hard to keep anything that significant under wraps for too long. HoosierCat
How did this acorn fall so far from the mighty tree it came from?Did you ever know people who listen, but don't seem to hear? Who have the knowledge but can't or won't or don't apply it? Take this, also from the interview:GH: Did you guys feel you needed a disciplinarian when you hired Forrest Gregg before the 1980 season? MB: My father had respect for the way Forrest had conducted himself when he coached the Browns. We had met him after he got fired by the Browns and had lunch with him. My dad just wanted to have lunch with him and talk to him and get to know him. So when the thing opened up here, it was a good choice. He put respect back in the players. They knew he had been a great player and he truly was, and he was demanding. My father used to use that term; you get what you demand. He thought a coach should be demanding. Forrest could be that way. We've had wonderful coaches. I'm very fond of all of them."They knew he had been a great player and he truly was, and he was demanding. My father used to use that term; you get what you demand. He thought a coach should be demanding." Now that's a great insight straight from the Old Man. Obviously, it's something that has stuck with Mikey all these years. Yet...what kind of coaches has Mikey hired? I can think of a lot of words to describe the likes of Shula, Coslet and LeBeau, but "demanding" isn't one of them. Marvin is the first hire of his era that might merit that description. Mikey has the knowledge...and when he heeds its lessons it works...but he seems to listen to it only reluctantly

Chad will have like two catches for 12 yards with those guys starting across from him. I wanted to fight my brother when he told me the best the Bengals will be this year is 8-8, I think I'm starting to lean toward his way with that prediction. The whole damn team is hurt including the coach, as the season gets closer to starting my hope is fading. I would have loved to shove pie in Peter King face, looks like he will look like a soothsayer after this year with the Bengals.

Stripes
I'd be more concerned about JJoe missing the game that TJ. Without him, we'll be starting a rookie against Mark Clayton. Joseph dominated McNair in last season's second matchup too.

Joseph dominated McNair in last season's second matchup too.TDB are you serious you would be more concerned about JJOE missing the game then TJ. Hall a rookie starting at cornerback is a lot better then Tab Perry and Glen Holt as our wide receivers. I didn't even mention Chad because he would be a non-factor with those guys starting, can you say triple coverage (linebacker) and take your chances with those guys beating one on one coverage. That would mean that if the wide receiver were not seen as a threat then Rudi would have absolutely zero lanes to run through. Clayton is only as good as McNair wore out arm, I don't fear Clayton at all I feel that Hall would do fine against him. But those backup receivers I'm not feeling at all. HoosierCat
Yeah, I gotta go with TJ over JJoe, too. With or without Joseph our D ought to be able to keep the Ravens' offense in check (assuming, of course, the O and/or STs doesn't turn it over multiple times and give Balti easy scores). But I think Cincy needs every weapon it can muster to overcome the Ravens' D.
