COB
If it was as described, then it was a blatant case of assault, not a mutual fight. And if it's on video, Porter may receive a very stiff penalty. It's one thing to provide the league with a negative story in the paper. If this thing's on video, it will the be the gift that keeps on giving. It will be used as the video example of thug NFL behavior, all summer and right into the season. The league may come down very hard on Porter
jditty47
jail time and a year long suspension from the NFL is not out of the question in my opinion. i would be shocked if he gets less than 4 games.

Hey Joey, you no longer play for Pittsburgh ... you're in Miami now. Bummer. You will now be treated like the rest of the world. Have fun with that. Stripes
The idea that Porter and his cronies just outright assaulted Levi seems farfetched to me, but if true a suspension is inevitable.Nice pickup, Miami.

Video evidence has a tendency to be replayed over and over again...often being broken down frame by frame....with still cutouts finding their way onto the pages of newspapers and magazines. It all depends on what the video shows, but a man being sucker punched by another man backed up posse of thugs would be media gold.

If what I heard on several different links actually did go down, that would be extremely bad press for the establishment, hence, I doubt they'd be too inclined to release it! Either way, I really don't care. Levi doesn't seem to be in a position right now to suffer any consequences from the incident, and I could give a rats a$$ about what happens to Joey Porter, no matter what team he plays for. BengalByTheBay
Would it surprise any of you if -- regardless of what the Palms hopes to do -- this video shows up on youtube and then here and every other NFL fan site within the next couple of weeks? If the Palms can keep a lid on this, I would be surprised. Of course, they don't want it to get anywhere. But it will be pretty hard to keep it if a prosecutor or Levi gets a production order from a court for it. I would be surprised if Levi doesn't turn this over to a lawyer to squeeze the crap out of Mr. Porter. I agree that the interesting part will be to see what our crime fighting crusader of the NFL does to make this an example.BTW -- do any of you remember last offseason. Porter was a guest host on NFL Total Access for a week or two. Kind of a black eye for the league that this jackhole was given that kind of promo by a league owned network. If there is a court case, the evidence of the act could become public record and accessable via foia or state =. Also doesnt it seem like half of the fight scenes on max-x, theft and/or drunken scenes on other clip shows are in casinos? They get the tape somehow. Kazkal
Trust me, when we play Miami I have a lot bigger problems to worry about than Joey Porter. I’m going against probably the best defensive end in the league in Jason Taylor. I’m not going to be worried about Joey.”Levi burns Joey
jditty47
“A cowardly assault by a coward,” Jones says. “One versus seven, six from behind. The police report came out and told the truth. Joey Porter did not kick Levi Jones’s ass. Basically what he did was walk up to me, get my attention talking trash while his boys jumped me from behind. They plotted the thing. He was shooting craps. I was playing blackjack. He saw me, there was no exchange before he just came up on me.” this is the story according to levi....what a p***y porter is. jjakq27
Here's Levi's take on the fight in Vegas with Porter. Still can't figure out why the Steelers didn't even offer to renegotiate with Porter so he could stay in Pittsburgh. And he's suppossed to be all that. jditty47
espn finally posted the levi jones side of the argument. just yesterday i actually sent a email to the page 2 staff stating why the hell have they not had an article about the truth in the incident since the police report came out? very next day it is posted. hmmmmmmm i think it worked =)
jditty47
Heres the most recent ask hobson tidbit about the levi jones incident. pretty good take from him if you ask me. Q: What's your take on the media's silence on the Joey Porter and gang attack on Levi? With so much focus on improving the league's image, how does an attack of this nature go relatively unnoticed?--Dave, Petersburg, KYDAVE: Hell of a question. But in the end it will get big play because Porter probably ends up being the first big name to feel the wrath of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s new conduct policy. With Chris Henry, he’s already eligible for suspension under the old policy. As for Pacman Jones, that’s a bit of a mess because he hasn’t been charged with anything yet and Goodell has to be careful. But, yeah, you’re right. The police report says one NFL player basically attacked another NFL player and had help. Goodell has to take a stand on it. Heck, that storyline is worthy of, at the very least, a bad B movie, not to mention daily news updates for a week. But it’s all very strange why it slid by. It seemed like it was only big news in Cincinnati and Miami. Call it the offensive-line, small-market syndrome. As good as Levi Jones is, he’s still a lineman. If it was Chad Johnson or Jeremy Shockey, or Larry Johnson, or Jake Delhomme, it’s bigger news simply because the guy has the ball in his hands. And as high-profile as Joey Porter has been, how much play has he really received outside of Pittsburgh? A Pro Bowler, but a small-market Pro Bowler. I mean, two paragraphs from big-market defensive end Michael Strahan’s divorce documents get World War III headlines, and an NFL player is involved in attacking another NFL player with robbery involved and it’s treated like a high school baseball doubleheader nationally? Plus, it happened in the middle of the NCAA basketball tournament, which even bailed out embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. It also didn’t help that the police report wasn’t released to the media for five days and then on a late Friday night because it was released at the end of a Vegas day, turning it into a news black hole. And where’s the casino video? If this was Britney Spears, ET or Total Access Pat O’Brien, or some damn network would have already had an hour special.how many games u guys think he gets? 8? season? Tomlin doesn't need Porter's rah-rah skills, so they cut him because that's all he's good for. That and getting shot in buttocks.

It seemed like it was only big news in Cincinnati and Miami. And because it wasn't news when it happened Goodell won't make it big news later by handing out a long suspension. In fact, I'd say the odds are pretty good that no suspension at all is handed out. Wait for it. The NFL's new get tough policy is going to be almost entirely media driven and as a result vastly unfair.
