Broncos @ Chargers

Ravens @ Chiefs

Colts @ Jaguars

Bills @ Jets

And New England @ Miami. Best case scenario would be (IMHO) victories by:

Chargers

Chiefs

Colts

Bills

Patriots

...and, of course, Bengals!

Meanwhile, 71 yard TD Denver. F**k.

Some sites are saying the Bronc0s are still the #5 and we are now #6, and I am not sure why, might be because the pages haven't updated yet.

Confrence record!!!!!!!!!!

#5 DEN 7-5 ( 7-3)

#6 CIN 7-5 ( 5-3)

KC knocks Denver out, tho, based on division record (3-1 vs. 3-2). At least if my understanding of the tiebreakers is accurate. But no place Ive looked at (nfl.com, sportline.com) has updated per the Denver results yet (they still have Denver 7-4).

I guess other people have lives, unlike me!

Yeah I guess I'm missing the reasoning behind wanting Denver to win? Wouldn't the Bengals' win the tie breaker with KC?

If Denver loses, KC gets the 1st WC spot (at least temporarily) because you apply the division tiebreaker first. So it would be us vs. Denver & NYJ, and that comes down to AFC record, which Denver wins.

Of course, there are four games let to play.

TD Jags :(

I believe:

The Bengals SHOULD be the #5 seed currently!

Some of your playoff seeding scenario is correct but partly flawed.

In the NFL, playoff seeding does not work to grant who is in; it determines who is OUT first.

And then the tiebreaking scenarios begin over again for the teams that are left in consideration.

And no team in the same division can advance to playoff consideration without 1st holding the tiebreaker over another team in their division.

Here is what I mean:

In the AFC West, KC and DEN have split their matches 1-1.

But KC has the better division record and DEN is eliminated from consideration.

Check the NFL Standings. After the DEN loss to SEA tonight, even the NFL.com standings

show KC over DEN in the standings.

Next, not only do the Bengals hold the 1st tie-breaker - head-to-head over KC; but the Bengals have the best AFC record over ALL of the remaining 7-5 teams - KC, JAX, Jets.

Bengals currently hold the #5 seed!

I believe! But with 3 tough games remaining, does it really matter?

We SHOULD drum Oakland although the Raiders D is better than expected....in the jungle.

Indy is beatable with the 31st ranked D - if we can pressure Manning.

Denver is on the skids. Have lost 3 in a row; now with a rookie QB and going to SD next week. Hopefully we can finish their season but Denver is one of the toughest venues to visit and win.

Then Pittsburgh; I hate the bastards but even without Palomalu and Ward and Gentle Ben playing so poorly, somehow, you can throw out the records and expectations when these 2 get together. We should still be able to deliver a "WeDey" what-for whoopass on the hated rivals to put an exclamation point on the Steelers thundering thud to reality this year!

NY Bengal fan...

This cannot be right....

Denver cannot be considered at #5 because KC holds the tiebreaker over them within the division.

Until KC is seeded, as it stands now, Denver cannot hold a playoff spot.

No team in the NFL can advance to playoff consideration if a team in their division holds the playoff tiebreaker over them.

Heading into the 4th quarter of the season, your Bengals own the #5 seed as a Wildcard. Su-weet.

I believe Duus is right (as usual)!

It may not be updated yet, but from my calculations, the Bengals the current #5 seed and Jets are #6 based on tiebreakers.

12:30 am Monday Morning:

NFL.com has now updated current playoff seedings.

As I said....Bengals are #5 seed....Now let's just win and finish in the dance!

5 - Bengals

6 - Jets

7 - Jaguars

8 - Chiefs

9 - Broncos

Can you believe how far the Broncos have fallen?

Personally, I want a cushion heading into the Indy game...so, besides obviously rooting like hell for the Bengals to take care of business against the Raiders, will be pulling for four losses by the others. And, much like my hunch that Cleveland would give KC all it wanted (which it quite certainly did) I think the Bills will bring their A+ game for their division rival.

I think the Jets lose next week, as do the others. Contact your local celestial authorities with your requests now...

Always a pleasure to watch the wheels to fall of the Denver Bronco donkey cart.

I believe they're seeded last because multi-team tie-breakers for the wildcard require that the division tiebreaker is used 1st when there are 2 teams from the same division. The Donkeys and Chiefs split this year but KC is 1 up in the division. Take KC out of the equation and Denver probably seeds higher.

A 5 team scrum for the wildcard does intensify the whole thing, eh?

Great games this week and the Raiders-Texans game was also interesting to watch. The Raiders have hellacious speed on defense and are very strong on the D-line with a lot of edge speed from Derrick Burgess. Their offense totally collapses in on itself but if they can manage just 1 mistake free game between offense and special teams, they would be right in the thick of it with just about any team.

Oakland will give us more trouble than most people are thinking. Like you said they have a good defense. Actually they have a great D. Hopefully the guys don't come out and automatically expect a win.

3 out of the last 4 weeks, Indy hasn't put up more than 20 points. If our D can play a good solid game, this is our year against Indy!

You're playing it pretty fast and loose with the word "great" don't you think?

The yardage they've given up on defense isn't the only thing to consider. They have the dead-last ranked offense. Teams can afford to get really conservative in the 2nd half, making Oakland's defense look decent on paper - but they are not. (interestingly... that is exactly what we did to Baltimore on Thursday... making their defense's stats continue to look pretty).

The argument that our defense gives up so much because our offense is so good is the inverted argument for them. I promise you that if they had an offense that could score more than 12 points/game, their defense would not be ranked high. In fact... they are still giving up more points/game on defense than we are. Points are still the most important thing in football - right? If they are "great" we must be "elite."

Well, I hope the Bengals are a lot more concerned about how to prepare for the Raiders D. (And yes that should translate into a whole lot of Rudi) Because their back 7 is hard to crack. Thomas Howard looks like he has added some aggression to the speed teams liked of him as a weakside LB prospect capable of covering slot WRs, Kirk Morrison is a human torpedo who gets back fast and delivers huge hits over the middle, Mike Huff is a bigtime player at safety and their corners have speed and halfway decent skills. Add to that their pass rush and it's not hard to see why even the might David Carr could only throw for 37 yards vs. them.

On paper, the Raiders give up yards on the run...That better be the case Sunday or the Bengals could have a real dogfight on their hands that goes all the way down to the wire. The Texans scored 23 yesterday but only 3 was really on the D, not that the Texans will be confused with the Bengals offense, but the Raider D is fast and furious. Points are all that matters but time and time again stats never tell the whole story...That pretty much only comes by paying attention to what unfolds on the field.
