CBin2k7
Why not tell the world that he has so little confidence in his offense and the crap thay presented at Raymond James Stadium today that he felt like he had a better chance to win the game by sending in his kicker who couldn't hit a 52 yd FG much less a 62 yarder against the wind. Why not? Because he's supposed to go for the win, not send a message to the world. This isn't character-building for the JV team, it's professional football.Tell that to the Bengals offense, their QB and their OC because they look about as good as a JV team today. The Bengals would've had a better chance to win with Doug Johnson. Carson lived up to his dumb as a box of rocks rap today. There's just no way the Bengals should've lost to this team and it's sorry excuse for an offense. Watching the game you can tell Carson is really off. He does not set his feet and throw the ball like he did last season. He is missing some open receivers. I know he has pressure in his face, but he still seems a little off. It doesn't help that the Bengals play calling is becoming predictable.
derekshank
The bad call on Justin could've turned the game in our favor, but that doesn't mean the game was fixed. You guys are sounding like a bunch of whiny-ass Steeler fans. If Carson, the o-line, the secondary, et al. were playing to the best of their abilities, we wouldn't have been in a position to rely on a single play to win or lose the game.Yeah but they weren't.If the Bengals played to the best of their abilities, they would go undefeated.Just because the team didn't play good as a whole doesn't mean bs calls that gave the Bucs two scores get a pass.We didn't play to the best of our ability... and we didn't have Braham, Henry, C. Perry, T. Perry, Simmons, Jeanty, Dexter, and Levi for most of the game. It is clear that we are far better than Tampa, since it took a last minute drive and a ton of help from the refs for them to win by 1 point at home. The thing that sucks is that even with all those injuries, we should have won this game... and the refs are the reason we didn't. Say what you want about the game shouldn't come down to a bad call... We were decimated with injuries, playing on the road. That game was taken from us. I would like to see Bratkowski call a game as if he were somewhat familiar with the players he has. For example, maybe he shouldn't wait until Game #5 to call a long pass.Wonder what would happen if Marvin let Zampese call a few series. SkinneymulleT
I dont know how many times ive heard, football move and must retain possession upon contact with the ground. Why not here?Because he had already crossed the plane of the end zone. After you break the plane, the TD is scored and everything else is moot. That's actually not true. You have to possess to the ground if you are making a catch, even in the end zone. Bad call part II.Not exactly. You're probably thinking of a receiver making an airborne catch in the end zone. If the receiver cathces the ball in the air, he must touch down both feet in bounds in order to get the TD. Even if the football has broken the plane of the endzone and the receiver has control, his feet must also go down. In this particular play, the receivers feet were already down in the field of play, so all he had to do was break the plane of the endzone. At that point, it is a touchdown.Wrong. You must 1st establish possession, 2 feet down control of ball and 1 FOOTBALL MOVE! He had 1 foot down questionable possesion with one hand that looked like the ball was floating and laces turned a bit, and he hit the ground and falled to maintain possession. Even if your in the back of the endzone and drag your feet you must maintain possession of the ball unpon contact with the ground, any movement you lose. Same here. No football move means retain possession upon contact with the ground. He did not. Also the ref on the field ruled incomplete clearly there was not indisputable replay evidence to overturn the call. BAD CALL.

Carson could have played better... but there is no such thing as a perfect game.He had a couple bad throws... but we only had 53 yards rushing on the day. He completed 65% of his passes for 261 yards, 1 TD, and no INT's against a team that is actually ranked 7th in the league in pass defense. The question is why we couldn't get a running game. This loss was not Palmer's fault. The problem was that we had to try to convert 3rd and 8 or more 8 times today. That means that the running game sucked on 1st and second down. BengalszoneBilly
Jesus...I cannot believe the Bengals lost this game! Out here in Arizona I was unable to see it, and I guess that was a good thing. It's like old times before Marvin Lewis when you could always count on them to NOT hold a lead in the 4th quarter. Of course normally I'd be all over the defense about a loss like that, but from what I saw in break aways from other televised games, and from NFL.com, I just can't justify that in this instance. They only gave up two scores, although that last one was a knife through the heart. Something isn't right (obviously) with the offense, and IMHO it has to be the offensive line. Aside from the Cleveland game, Rudi has difficulty breaking the 100 yard per game barrier, and until he does so regularly, well this 52 or so yards a game just ain't gonna cut it. Last season the offense showed a more balanced attack. To make the playoffs I believe we need that back. Especially seeing how the Panthers are coming to town next week. OMFG! We cannot drop 3 games in a row. Not in this division! Oh...one more comment: In Marvin I STILL Trust!

I just think it's pointless to blame refs when there are obvious problems that the actual players and coaches are responsible for.If Shayne had somehow managed to score on that last 62 yard kick, I don't think many people would be talking about how everything's great and we're going to go undefeated the rest of the season. You wouldn't let Marvin and Co. off the hook in that situation, so why do we let them off the hook when the ref blows a call?We should've played better, injuries or not. BengalPimp
Attempting a 62 yard field that is known to be outside the range of your kicker is not the way to win games. When you have players that the Bengals do, the play is "is everyone got deep and I will hit you". Especially when you have a QB and receiving corp the Bengals do. This was a bad decision by Marvin. aaronburr
I'd venture a guess that Doug Johnson calling his own game with nobody more than Chatman, Watson and Tony Stewart to work with could've came up with more than 13 points. ShulaSteakhouse
Then there's the fact Marvin runs possibly the most undisciplined team in the league - at least 10 penalties today.

He gained 2 or 3 yards after making contact with the ball.

Sure, Palmer threw no picks but what a dud he had today on totally blown throws with people wide open and the let's-see-how-long-I-can-eff-around-on-1st down-from-the-11-and get-a-delay-of-game-by audibling-3-times was ridiciulous, as was the let-me-audible-4 times-then run-a-Rudi-off-tackle-that-has-no-chance play. Palmer needs to play a whole lot better just to get this team compettive again. The O-line gave him time today and he had receivers open. They just had a bye week and they come out with that slop on offense.

There's just no way the Bengals should've lost to this team and it's sorry excuse for an offense. YOU OBVIOUSLY CAN ONLY DREAM TO ONE DAY BE AS SMART AS A BOX OF ROCKS.......That was The DUMBEST STATEMENT made today. Carson was 24/37 for 261 yrds 1TD......AND....0 INT'S. Doing that against a Top 10 Pass Defense considering he had no support from the running game, and no protection from the O-Line...You cant ask for much more than that....and who ever gave him a "dumb as a box of rocks" rap? you're an idiot, listen to him speak at any press conference or post game media session, says all the right things, Look at how he Recognizes defensive formations and changes the plays at the line, and I have yet to see an NFL coach allow a "Dumb" QB to run a No-Huddle offense. I DARE YOU TO PUT ANY OTHER QB IN HIS SHOES......ANYBODY...AND SEE.....PEYTON MANNING? HAHAHA...LOOK AT ANY OF HIS PLAYOFF GAMES, IF HE IS CONSTANTLY PRESSURED HE STINKS JUST LIKE ANY OTHER QB THEY WILL MAKE BAD THROWS AND HAVE A TON...A TON...OF INT'S. BUT NO, YOU TALK CHIT BECAUSE HE DOESNT HAVE 400 YRDS AND 5 TD'S. GET REAL.....GIVE THE MAN HIS DUE...HE DOESNT MAKE DUMB THROWS THAT GET PICKED OFF. HE IS NOT....REPEAT....HE IS NOT THE ONE HURTING THIS TEAM!!!!!!!!
schweinhart
Naw, they need to give the no-huddle a rest for awhile and script more w/ a red light on him audibling. Or better yet, just send in the plays to throw deep every single play. What would it hurt? Some of his throws today were total garbage. He can say all the right things until he's blue in the face but he's got to produce on the field like he did last year or this team's playoff hopes are down the drain. It's not all on him but 13 points.....again.13 points13 points13 points13 points13 points13 points
Casey
The officiating in this game sucked, especially the call on Justin but, TB should have never been in the position to win the game...we should have had them put away at half time. Good teams overcome bad calls. No excuses. This loss goes on the offenses inability to execute and the play calling which seems to get more conservative every game. San Antonio Bengal
This loss goes on the offenses inability to execute and the play calling which seems to get more conservative every game.If there is an offensive version of the prevent defense, I think the Bengals have found it. Ya know how the prevent defense prevents you from winning? Well, the Bengals seem to have developed the prevent offense which yields the same result as the prevent defense -- losing. PMThor
What were we trying to do at the end of that game?4:50 left in the game. Bengals on their own 10. Three straight running plays. (Yes I consider the shovel pass a run basically). Punt. We give TB the ball at the 50. What were we thinking? Horrible, horrible play calling offensively at the end of the game. We handed TB the ball and basically said, go ahead and beat our defense. Which they did. This was a terrible, terrible game. No running offense. Terrible defensive sets. Flag after flag after flag. Where did Chad go? Is he out making another commercial? My bigggest "PISSED OFF" moment. The personal foul on Justin Smith for tackling their QB, on their last drive. I believe it was a second down. So instead of giving TB a third and plus fifteen to get a first, TB gets an automatic first down, plus fifteen yards, and a stopped clock. Horrendous, absolutely the worst call I have seen all year. Easily the worst, no doubt about it. Nothing close.

HoosierCat
13 points13 points13 points13 points13 points13 pointsA-yup. Can't pin this one on the D. When your offense can't even generate two TD's worth of points, you aren't going to win many games no matter how good your defense is.I didn't like the idea of messing with the o-line during the bye week, and indeed that decision bit them early today and then had to be abandoned anyhow. The line's a wreck, Carson clearly misses the Perrys (Chris & Tab), Henry and even, I think, Schobel, and for his part Carson still looks off. How you fix this I don't know short of getting people healthy and off suspension, I dunno.
