TJJackson
I am in total agreement with the "can't get too excited in preseason" comment. Ergo I am saying "I am warming to him" as opposed to calling the guy the next coming of Warren Sapp or anything remotely like that.
membengal
I read somewhere this was the worst draft ever? Was that hasty?
TJJackson
Nahstill WDE, since you mentioned itIt improved some, yes, but not enough....and no need for me to expound on the reasons why, as they have been extensively argued elsewhere

TJJackson
Not trueThe draft shapes your team, and is something to get excited aboutThe preseason provides a time for the Arizona Cardinals to win some games, and is otherwise little more than a 3 hour full speed practice session where the players aren't paid yet can sustain injuries that are potentially season or career ending. Stripes
I'd agree the draft is something to get excited about, but opinions of it's results should be held until the players actually play the game. The same can be said of the preseason... Peko is playing very well, but we'll have to wait until the games count to really make any sense of him. Wraith
Worst Draft Ever was 1999. Passing up the Saints offer, picking Akili smith #3 as the third QB taken in the draft, follow that pick up with Charles Fischer, Cory Hall, Craig Yeast, Nick Williams (Luchey), Kelly Gregg (then cutting him), Tony Coats, Scott Covington and Donald Broomfield. I am sorry but even though I didn't like this draft it is spectacular compared with the s**te we drafted in 1999 given the opportunities we had. The_Next_Big_Thing
I'd like to see Peko get Rookie of the year + become a starter by next year. I wouldn't be surprised.Who Dey!!! Just remember, I called Peko for DROY a while back and you all said there was no way! That being said, he's got to beat out Thornton inside, OR be in on enough passing downs to make a major impact every game without being the starter. I believe we will see him in on heavy rotation. TippCityRick
It will be interesting to see the rotation if Sam plays Monday night as was alluded to by Hobson today. I think Peko has done enough to move into that third position at the least. Right now I'm happy with our DT play assuming Sam does what he's supposed to do and plug up the middle on first and second down.
HoosierCat
The Peko pick, to me, passed over better talent and was tainted by the Frucker pick. If Peko can vie for playing time but putting up nice performances in pre-season, then hats off to him...anything that can be done to improve the D line is welcome.Yup.Anyone know why Frucker did not play?Shoulder. Out vs. GB too. Hopefully back in time for the final preseason tilt with Indy.
Jet23
Peko will be starting by week 6. He has already shown the ability to take on two blockers. He and Sam will be the dynamic duo in the middle. Justin can thank the two of them for the big fat contract he will command next year. I am sorry but even though I didn't like this draft it is spectacular compared with the s**te we drafted in 1999 given the opportunities we had. This is a very touchy subject with me. This is possibly the worst non-draft day trade that ever took place. Leading of course to the worst draft class ever done by any professional franchise. When totaled the Saints would have parted with 10 draft picks. 1st,3rd,4th,5th,6th, and 7th in '99 draft.- 1st, and 3rd in 2000 draft.- 1st in 2001.- 2nd in 2002. 10 draft picks for Rickey Williams...? I wouldn't have gave up 10 draft picks for Corey Dillon, and I liked him back then!Just in case you would like to know who we missed out on by not taking those draft picks.'99 - by Round, Jevon KearseDre BlyJoey PorterBrandon Stokely/Aaron BrooksJerry AzumahDonald Driver2000 -Actually too many first rounders to name because so many players are regular pro-bowlers from this draft class. But in Hind sight, You don't let your first round pick, decide who your 3rd round pick should be. Warrick telling Brown and them to draft Dugans over Coles was really really bad management.2001 - Todd Heap plain and simple. We missed out on Todd Heap because we didn't have that extra first rounder.2002 - Take your pick, Portis, M. Lewis, Sheldon Brown,LeCharles Bentley etc. etc... This isn't a hind sight is 20/20 type of rant. NO team gives up 10 draft picks for an unproven quarterback. I wouldn't give up 10 draft picks for Dan Marino. You can build dynasties with that many players, just ask Jimmy Johnson, He went to Dallas, saw the best player was Herschel Walker, traded him, got 9 draft picks for him and 3 superbowls as a result. Results don't lie.

HoTbOy
I already like DPeko, he got rid of an underachieving MAskew that's good, anytime you can get a decent DT is good, I would like to see him go against the starters, but to spell a veteran for a couple of plays would be good for me right now... bengal4life
Didn't Peko pick up a fumble last year or the year before and run it back something like 95 yards for a touchdown without being touched. That tells me for a 340 pounder he's got some kind of athletic ability. Like somebody said the skies the limit.

I don't mean to be nit-picky, but Peko isn't 340 lbs. He's 320... and I would say that 20lbs is fairly significant.

He was bouncing off of guys left and right, and that made the play even cooler.EDIT - Cancel the bouncing around/wasn't untouched thing... Kazkal to the rescue. bengal4life
he looks untouched to meYeah he might have had the bottom of his cleat touched at the end of the play but yeah pretty much untouched. And 95 yards always sounds better.
