He'll get a more legit shot to start the season at Detroit than anywhere else...except Cincinnati or New York.

b_haynes3
im gladthey got rid of kitna he was one of the worst qb's the bengals have ever had... he dint know when to run or when to stay in the pocket... we figured that out in the PLAYOFFS
The_Next_Big_Thing
I think a major reason for Kitna going to Detroit was that his job here was done. He came in, earned respect as comeback player of the year, and then tutored Carson Palmer and helped make Carson the player he is. Now he's going to Detroit, where they still seem to respect him, and where he will give Joey a chance to mature like Carson did. Once he's done, he'll end up a QB coach somewhere soon. richmond_mat
Maybe Kitna kicked your dog, or you caught him staring at your wife in the stands or something... but his character on and off the field makes him the least likely candidate for the "lockerroom rat." I don't understand your dislike for him in the least. It makes a lot of sense to think that Kitna was the leak of the half time rant. He is sending mixed signals abouthis moving (money/playing time) and the team made no real effort to sign him.
Stripes
The ratfink could have been Kitna I suppose. Still, when Marvin made public his intentions to clean the house of said rat, I don't think he'd have been quite as harsh with his word choices were Jon the culprit. That is assuming there has been no previous animosity between the two.
HoosierCat
Florio over at pft says the Lions may now sh*tcan Joey...HARRINGTON OUT OF MOTOWN BY JUNE 15 In a Wednesday column from Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com, Kowalski predicted that Lions quarterback Joey Harrington "might be ready to move on." As it turns out, he already is. We've heard this afternoon that Harrington has asked the team to either trade him or release him, and that the team will accommodate his request before a significant roster bonus comes due on June 15. Not long ago, new coach Rod Marinelli and new offensive coordinator Mike Martz publicly embraced Harrington, with Martz promising to strip Harrington down and build him back up. We're told that Martz and Marinelli weren't too pleased with what they saw from Harrington during recent workouts with Martz, which prompted the team to sign Jon Kitna, who specifically was told that he'd have a shot to compete for the starting job in Detroit. Though it's not clear whether Harrington specifically was informed of the promise made to Kitna, Harrington is surely smart enough to realize that if Kitna wanted to be a backup he could have stayed in Cincinnati. Bottom line -- Harrington has made it known he wants out, and the team is ready to make it happen. The development likely will be viewed as a positive thing in the locker room. We're told that one of the Lions offensive lineman recently assessed the situation by saying, "We want the f---ker out."
The_Next_Big_Thing
Ok, so Kitna will be starting sooner than I thought, and they will draft a guy to follow the Palmer Plan.
ArmyBengal
With Detroit sitting at #9 and Brees going to New Orleans, the Lions very well may take a QB. Kitna would get his one year only to be sat again when the new guy gets the starting position before training camp.I guess starting was that important even if for a loser. The whole snitch thing makes more sense than that. Everyone wants to play to have a chance to win it all. Detroit doesn't fit that mold, but good for Kitna...WHODEY !!! HoTbOy
Wow i didn't see that article about Harrington, if Matrz wasn't impressed he must REALLY SUCK...you know that fit may be good for the snitch, because the Lions WR are slow anyway, so he doesn't have throw downfield...and Pollard is pretty good TE... The_Next_Big_Thing
1. "There's no secret about it, they want my leadership skills"2. "God told me he wants me to start somewhere one more time."3. "I WANT OUT OF DETROIT YOU MOTHER%$BLEEEEEEPPPPPPP"Seems to me that Joey made it clear he wouldn't be there.Seems to me that the Lions made it clear to Jon he would be their starter this year.Seems to me they want to use Kitna the same way we did. Bring up the new guy. Be a second QB coach for him. Turn him into Carson you big cerebral stud you.So get off the snitch BS.

bb.gun77
this guy claims he wanted to go $omewhere he would $tart. new lion coach said "stiff" harrington is THE GUY. why would kitna go be a #2 at a $truggling franchi$e when he would probably $tart the $eason a$ bengal$ $tarter. harrington will continue being harrington and kitna will play eventually (probably sooner than later). i know that the bengals will rush carson back and he'll be forced to play at 70% or less. Palmer WILL NOT BE READY !!! i beg the bengal organization to SIT palmer for the entire 06-07 season because the tough schedule(3rd toughest in league), concentrate on defense (draft, free agency) and bring in a FAqb like doug flutie (don't laugh!!!) to manage the offense or a big arm like mccown to get us through this next year. folks, i hate to say it but 06-07 season is a throw away year. i probably wouldn't say that if we had a good defense but without a healthy palmer, the offense will never keep up with what that crappy defense will give up (30+pts. ave. the final 8 reg. season games)! //////////kitna left for the paycheck. he can handle $nake$ and thump bible$ all day long but god won't even be able to $ave him where he's going.....................HELL (detroit). good ridance. whata phony. BengalszoneBilly
I think Palmer will be ready sooner than most people think. Carson has been spotted bowling in 'Vegas, and to me, that's a damn good sign. As far as next season being a "throw-away," I highly doubt anyone in the Bengals organization shares that point of view with you.On the other hand, welcome to Bengalszone bb.gun77. HairOnFire
He's still my rat. More importantly, all of the other prime suspects are still on the Bengals roster. Meanwhile, Jon Kitna jumped ship.
MacD BengalFan
I am not buying that Kitna was the "snitch" as some of you consipirsy theorist have alluded to. I do have to question why he would want to start for a team that, as pointed out earlier, is going no where for the next couple of years, or more. Plus, I have to question Joey screaming he wants out of Detroit after seeing what Coach Kitna did for Carson. Joey should stay put and pick Kitna's brain. I believe Joey has the potential, just wasn't getting the right coaching. If Coach Kitna starts in '06, I would expect Joey to start in '07 and Joey should take advantage of the situation. bengalboomer7
I gotta call you on it. Bulls**t. Think about what your saying.I make enough money in my own job to be comfortable, but if someone comes along and offers to double my pay, with a better chance for advancement(being the starter) then any man would be a fool not to take it.I like my job, but I'm not that damn loyal to my company, as i doubt you'd be that loyal to your own job. Hell, I'd probably leave a family business for double the money. So, why do athletes have to adhere to some loyalty rule.Even Jesus said, "Get yo money, man" (obscure movie reference)Sorry, but this is a stupid post

ShulaSteakhouse
2003 was fairly admirable, that was about it, it's now 2006. Let the phony Jon Kitna lovefest end - the guy's terrible. I am honestly just sick of watching him at this point. Enough.
