I'd like to see pass rush prioritized but aside from that, good draft Army Oh, one other thing: I think we drafted the extra safety (Tycen Anderson) last year, so I'd rather get a punter - Chrisman didnt do well - or an OC as I am not fond of our backup OC

Random 2023 Bengals stuff before FA and what not

How can you afford the subscription after paying Moobs and Paul Daugherty to pressure wash your driveway

I am happy for Joe personally that this turned out to be a mistaken charge. Better that it not come up at all, but life is unfair like that sometimes He came to us with a lot of baggage but he has been a very solid citizen in his time here. I respect and appreciate that That said, both Mixon and Boyd are playing on contracts that to me exceed their actual value provided I have love for both, especially Boyd, but with large contracts due and more coming due I wont be surprised if either or both are released I'd prefer in both cases that they simply come to recognize that they are both on the downside of their career and that they should play for less money, but I know this very rarely happens. Performance goes down but the players keep demanding more money, and when they cant get more money from their current team they end up taking less elsewhere. Sad but true, see it over and over and over again Hopefully one of these two will be the exception to that, as I'd love to have Boyd stay as WR3 at a WR3 price, and Mixon stay as a backup running back at a backup running back price But no, I dont see either happening

Report: Bengals Plan to PayJoe This Offseason
TJJackson replied to HoosierCat's topic in Cincinnati Bengals
Players who want to win know they need to leave money on the table so that other good players can also be retained/signed One can claim they want to stay and they want to win, but in the end the contract demands tell the real tale Bates decided he was a money guy, even while claiming he wants to stay. Sad, but so be it. I will always love the guy for what he did for us, but no tears as he walks Burrow still has to show me if he is a win guy or a money guy. I guess we will come to learn which he is over the coming months -
ouchie uhm, no.......Bobby can pick up some contract work in the Heath area. I hear theres a guy there who has his gutters cleaned rather frequently

Interestingly, the Broncos future list also includes another former Bengal - Wyatt Ray

I guess you are referring to https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/broncos_sign_ot_isaiah_prince_to_futures_deal/s1_17039_38421022 Personally, I am sad to see him go. We need solid OL depth. He's not a starter, but imo a solid depth player. I am guessing he has a connection to their new HC Maybe we can get Fred to return :-) (yes, I added that just for you, mem :-) )

Cap space numbers are meaningless to me without knowing how many and what players are no longer under contract. I, dont think anyone ever presents them this way, but I'd love to see a second number where the current year cap number is added for players no longer under contract, since you still have to pay someone to occupy those roster spots, more or less So......not saying we are retaining them, but just signing Pratt and Bates is probably half of that - and even if both walk, you still need a starting cover LB and a starting free safety, so you have to pay someone (sorry, no, I am not counting on existing players like ADG and Dax (respectively) to be that guy....though if they could, that'd be a huge relief to the cap) Then extending Burrow would likely eat the rest and, as Joisey said, yeah, theres always the rookie pool and the injury pad. so 4th most cap space in the league sounds like a lot, but under the circumstances, as I see it. it really isnt Hate me all you want, but I honestly think this coming year the Super Bowl window starts to close rather than opening more

From what I am reading La'el could (should?) be recovered right around the time of training camp That said, I stated when we were pursuing him that due to his injury history we'd need a sturdy and talented backup. and I was laughed at for sayign so. but lo and behold, he got injured. and here we are. ORT is an issue.....again so I see us as either a) deciding he is done as a Bengal, in which case we need to get a veteran ORT in free agency or b) deciding he will return, which means we draft his heir apparent no later than round 3 or decide Scharping, who was a college tackle and is still early in his career, moves to ORT I think I believe in option B with a early ORT draft pick at this point, but of course Pollack would know far better than I if Scharping is an ORT candidate

If we have a strategy to get something for Bates rather than just let him walk, then by all means, hell yes, do it My single dollar I have available to bet (and its in loose change) says he walks with no compensation except maybe, depending on how it goes, we get comp pick in rounds 3 or 4 Id love for him to stay another year and help groom Dax, but I just dont see that in the cards given the dollars (which would not be in loose change) he is demanding I think we have to look at picking up a r3 or r4 Comp Pick as Plan A but of course look hard at any offers that would yield something (anything) slightly better than a r3 Compensatory pick. That plan has to be worked out in full before the tag deadline, with full consideration to other players we might need to tag I forget - are there two tags available now, or just 1?

every time Paul Alexander opens his mouth, I thank the gods above that he is no longer part of our coaching staff https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/news/paul-alexander-drops-hot-take-about-joseph-ossai-costly-penalty-loss-chiefs

they'll be letting people go regardless - cant pay everyone first to go will be folks whose contracts vastly exceed their productivity level, and Mixon is high on that list - perhaps the highest It isnt a case of playing contract chicken with Mixon - the numbers say let him walk Mixon and his agent I am sure know that but of course wont be openly admitting it so it comes down to whether Mixon truly wants to finish his career here, which means he knows he'll need to take less. The other option is to become a cap cut, in which case he'll be making less elsewhere.....no one will be signing him for 10+M/year One other option is to quietly hope the loyalty-valuing Brown family will simply let him play out his overvalued contract. Its happened before If I had good money to bet, I'd put it on that final option, which of course carries the cap cut risk. I think that risk is bigger in the Duke Tobin era where big money is coming due for top performers

Get me pass rush in both FA and the draft I had said when we were looking to sign Collins that we'd need a strong backup ORT because of his injury history. I was laughed at for this. Here's me laughing sadly back (as I wish he could stay healthy) So we also need a new ORT to groom. Gimme this guy as the r2 or r3 pick at latest I dont think we've seen enough good from Carman to declare him the new OLT, but with Jonah under contract in 2023 he will have another year to establish himself there or prove we need to look elsewhere. So OLT can wait, unless theres a talented high effort project available in r6 or later Pratt has been so hugely pissy since about the mid point of the season that I cant see him returning for any amount of money. I see him agreeing to terms with another team within seconds of it being legal to do so. So a middle tier FA should be brought in to fill his spot, preferably a LB who is at least above average in coverage Ive already said g'bye to Bates in my mind. Will always love and appreciate what he did for us, but he is a money over team guy and so he can leave with nary a tear from me. That said, I dont think Dax is ready (or will be ready, come September) to take over.

Yeah, the ref crew was awful in the 4th quarter in particular, with both calls and noncalls almost exclusively favoring the Chiefs
-
Indeed GO IGGLES!
-
game over. KC goes to the Superbowl hard to beat the team in red and the team in black and white stripes
-
oh well disappointing that the game was fixed for KC and the MVP hard to beat a team like the Chiefs three times in a row, regardless, even if the fix were not in
-
45 yard attempt
-
FG being tried on 1st down

Bengals push Mahomes when he is out of bounds. Chiefs are now with FG range due to unsportsmanlike penalty and 1st down
