I think thats a media answer.....I dont think its the actual answer
-
I hope someday that Perine and Bell explain why they chose to leave for such relativly small contacts on teams with no playoff prospects, when they could have had the same pay here with better prospects Bates I get Hurst I sorta get Not Perine or Bell really bummed about these two, and Hurst
-
not just that, Hoosier, but all the unprofessional conduct......not the kind of personality one wants to have in a team leadership spot

Round 4 (136): Cordell Volson, OT, ND State
TJJackson replied to HoosierCat's topic in Cincinnati Bengals
No hate from me Love me some Volsen.......and I have eaten the big plate of crow for hating him as a draft pick -
I really saw Bell, Hurst, and Perine as team first guys who wanted to be here I'm kinda shattered that they went elsewhere for money we could have very easily afforded. Especially Perine. I want to understand the "why" in each case. The money wasn't high enough imo to be the real reason to move to non contending teams

If Jonah works out as the 1 year rental at ORT and the heir apparent ORT rookie is groomed this year and ready to go by years end, I will happily declare this all to be a brilliant success But we're not there yet
-
Can anyone tell me why Hurst, who went on and on about how he'd found a home here and was finally being used right, apparently didn't even check back with the FO before signing with Carolina, a team that will go nowhere this year? This one really bothers me.
-
Well, we still need to draft an ORT high. I get it that the heir apparent ORT might be at 28. I'd rather get him in r2 but if the better player between 3TDT and ORT is the ORT, you almost certainly get the ORT
-
Hehehe I get it It's a big signing at a position I talk about endlessly, and it hurts the Chiefs at the same time (sorta. They signed his replacement, who is also a star) But again, no one here can legitimately deny that the real need was (and still is) at ORT, not OLT You can say Jonah moves to ORT and will upgrade the spot. But we dont know that. I honestly am certain that will be precisely what is tried.....heck, I'd bet good money if I had any that Pollack is already talking to him about it. I just dont think it will go well.

Well, it might be a 20 foot tentpole if the guy was an ORT rather than an OLT or rather, if he was W I L L I N G to play ORT. He isnt As such, our biggest problem remains unresolved despite spending a big chunk of stadium naming rights money that was supposed to go to New Guy I am also really still reeling from the losses of Bell, Perine, and Hurst. All on contracts that were well within our means to pay. all heart and soul leaders of this team. So those losses aside, do we just park Jonah at 2nd string OLT? I think moving him to ORT will end up being a really really really bad thing What to do with Jonah for one year. What indeed

:-) I just cant see Kancey falling that far and one of those DEs needs to be our heir apparent ORT instead

all bow before the rookie pool

I will consider FA results satisfactory if they do the following, in no particular order 1. Sign a better than average veteran ORT that isnt injury prone to a reasonable contract. this would be the only player where it'd be acceptable to sign someone older than 30. This player is a one year fill in. We will draft the ORT heir apparent. 2. Re-sign Pratt -or- sign a younger veteran coverage linebacker. I suspect it'll be the latter, unfortunately 3. Re-sign Apple to a STFU contract -or- sign an average veteran outside man-press corner with 4.4 or better speed. I will add here that I do not know if the special teams guy we took from the Chiefs can be that replacement. But I doubt it. 4. Re-sign the man who made my favorite play of all time - Bell - to a reasonable 2-3 year contract. 5. Re-sign Hurst also to a 2-3 contract. I get the impression he wants to be here because "we are the first team who used him correctly" and as such will take a little less than market. If I am wrong and he wants franchise money, well, I hate to see him go. In the unlikely event he does go, we need a three down veteran TE. I dont want to fill this vacancy with a rookie, but will admit that of roster spots listed here, this would be the one spot where I'd be least uncomfortable with a rookie 6. Re-sign Flowers. I dont think there is an equivalent "cover the TE" player out there, and despite that, I dont think he'll be expensive 7. Of course, losses of depth players may need to be replaced as well except when it is felt that equivalent players may be had in the draft. Bonus: sign a veteran backup OC, preferably one who can also play some OG. I really think our current backup situation at OC is terrible. If we dont get this guy in FA, we need a OC in r4-5 of the draft. Bonus 2: if there's a running back who can block and catch and wants to come here specifically for the shot at a ring and not for a fat contract, then by all means take a long look. I think Mixon is gone for price-to-performance ratio issues. The latest set of off field shenanigans just makes it a little easier to let him go. I will say, tho, he has been a real team guy and until recently a solid citizen, which was the worry with him coming in as a rookie. I know there's no way he lowers his contract to the 2M range, but thats what it would take for him to stay Bates is of course gone. Love the guy for what he's done here, but hate it that he turns out to be a money first guy. Buh-bye. I think we already have the replacement on the roster

Here's another FA corner we could sign :-)

Random 2023 Bengals stuff before FA and what not
TJJackson replied to membengal's topic in Cincinnati Bengals
John Sheeran has left Cincyjungle and is now covering the Bengals and the, uhm, well, no, I cant say the other team, for AtoZSports.com https://atozsports.com/cincinnati -
this is why if I am writing the Apple contract I insist it include STFU terms - bonuses per week for utter and complete silence with silence explicitly defined
-
are poison pill contracts legal? ie team x will pay Lamar a bonus of 5 million dollars for any game played in Baltimore for Baltimore, thats an extra 40 million or more in costs, whereas for another team that might cost an extra 5M in some years, but usually 0
-
I think his mouth is his biggest issue every corner gets burned on occasion, him as well
-
Considering we werent pressuring the quarterback very often, even with 91 in there, I think pass rush is not only our best option but very possible at 28 DE would be fine, but a 3TDT would be much much better Id sign Apple to a STFU contract and hold off on corner til round 4 or later. He is a severely underated cb.
-
pass rush pass rush pass rush oh and one more thing pass rush :-)
-
I think Kancey will go in the top 15
-
I find it strange that 6 foot 5 is considered bad (red highlight) for an OT. If he got a 9.47 with that highly questionable red mark, he must be pretty incredible
-
Keep'em Give me an actual full time pass blocker, or better yet a pass rushing 3TDT
-
I dont care if any TE makes it to 28. we need a pass rusher or a pass blocker
