Random 2023 Bengals stuff before FA and what not

Im not sure a rusty Collins coming off a year of inactivity will be a positive at midseason 2023, so shut him down (release or IR) for 2023. Get me a solid ORT in FA as top priority in FA. I dont want a rookie protecting New Guy, even despite the overall-positive Volsen experience. Adeniji is the backup ORT. Get me pass rush in the early draft, and draft an ORT no later than r3 to groom to start in a year or two I am not sure where Carman or D'Ante figure into all of this. If they dont draft an OL high, that will signal to me that they have confidence that one or both will emerge this year as a Starter. I don't share that confidence, but of course I am not on that staff I'd like to see them take an OC in r5 or later, as I dont think Hill is the eventual starter -

Random 2023 Bengals stuff before FA and what not

Yeah, the Higgins stuff just made me laugh back to FA/draft tho: give me an ORT in FA, and a pass rushing 3TDT in r1 of the draft, and another OL to groom in r2 I dont expect Jonah to stay after 2023, no matter how well or poorly it goes....which is weird, as most thought of him after 2021 as the only OL of the five worth keeping, and indeed he was the only one they kept -
Bates and Jackson on the same team. hmm How many of Jackson's passes has Bates intercepted over the years?

I wouldnt mind signing Lewan under the following conditions - all of them, not just some of them Minimum vet base salary Very small signing bonus Moderate bonus for 100% full participation in all off-season workouts Fairly large per-game-started bonus (so he's paid as a starter when he starts) Small per-game-on-gameday-roster list (so he's paid like a backup when he is active) I dont see him accepting such terms, but it'd be necessary to protect the club from injury risk

Im not against drafting a ORT high, Army, in fact I've gone on record as outright favoring it :-) but the overall-positive Volsen experience aside, I dont want a rookie starter protecting New Guy If the team feels as you do that Collins wont be ready for game 1 of 2023, then arrange for a veteran replacement. Is Adenij it? I dont think so. Can Carman play ORT? I doubt it. Can Scharping, who played OT in college and is just enormous, be converted to ORT? I doubt this as well. so I say a middle-tier (or better) FA ORT needs to be brought in. Hopefully someone who wants to play for a winner and the Burrow effect can lower the price. If we commit to a ORT draftee within the first 2 rounds, then it can be a Reiff type who can fill in for 2023 while the draftee is groomed for a year

agreed. I dont even know of any reason they'd give up on him, as his performance was well beyond expectations as far as I am concerned I still want a talented pass rusher (preferably at 3TDT) either in FA or pick 31 of the draft. My next priority is another pass blocker, preferrably an ORT due to uncertainty with Collins

If Bates is gone - and thats as close to certain as any such thing is, imo - I guess they have to try to sign Bell Hurst is someone I'd love to have back even tho he is on the tail end of his career and age 30. I dont think he'll be expensive. 2 years max, I would really like to keep Pratt, but not for insane money. and I am guessing he wants the insane money. Have to have money to extend the WRs. We will find out in the next few weeks if Pratt prefers winning or insane money..........like we pretty much already found out with Bates

early word has Bates going to the Falcons

Random 2023 Bengals stuff before FA and what not
TJJackson replied to membengal's topic in Cincinnati Bengals
I dont know what resulted in the team's apparent extreme lack of preparedness for those first two games and no, it wasnt all the appendectomy or the injury to Nuge. No no. Other players who werent injured and hadnt just had an appendectomy were performing well below par all I want is that it not occur again. Treat each game as if it is the one that makes the difference in deeding in the playoffs, because they damn well so -
I saw it pointed out somewhere that Ramsey gave up something along the lines of 200 more yards than Apple this past season I dont say this to be down on Ramsey, per se, it is more about how I think Apple is a pretty good corner who likely would sign for less as I say that, if I am the one writing Apples contract, it has a STFU clause :-) Better said, a weekly incentive clause for media silence from the start of camp through the end of the season and of course performance incentives and a bonus for any week he is named the starter at one of the three CB spots. If he's starting a game I have no issues with his pay rising to that of a starter for that game

Im not a big Anarumo fan, but I will concede that I want as much carryover from 2022 to go into 2023 as possible, aside from the lack of preparedness in weeks 1 and 2 The defense has at times been championship caliber under Anarumo, but the inconsistency from week to week and even half to half is maddening at times related aside: one NFL talking head has Bates on the Bengals roster in 2023. It is a given that anything is possible, sure, but I see his departure as very-near certainty https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/allbengals-insiders-plus/espns-field-yates-predicts-bengals-re-sign-jessie-bates-iii -

I think it'd also be good to have other players ready to actually, you know, play Unlike the first two weeks of 2022 -

I dont see the first months set of opponents as mattering....as we need victories whether it is the best team in the league or the worst We faced Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Neither was a playoff team. A victory in either game would have netted us a higher seed and possibly playing in the Superbowl So every victory counts Training Camp this year does need to make sure that the team - especially the starters - is up to full speed and running by the end of the third preseason game. -
its about damned time I assume Big Willie got fucked, as expected?

I am told that the senior candidates almost always get in, so I pray this is true for Riley. He should have been in well before he died. I will be shocked if Big Willie gets in. Very deserving, but Bengals always get fucked in this process -
Report: Bengals Plan to PayJoe This Offseason
TJJackson replied to HoosierCat's topic in Cincinnati Bengals
yep, he basically made his bed before the draft last year sad but true then again, Dax hasnt shown me anything to get excited about yet albeit he's had very limited opportunities......so if Bates were to walk up and say "ya know, on second thought, I could take less......" I'd absolutely listen and see whether something could be worked out, because this D is a whole lot better with him in it than not -
Report: Bengals Plan to PayJoe This Offseason
TJJackson replied to HoosierCat's topic in Cincinnati Bengals
If what Chase is saying is true - that Joe not only understand the value of keeping his other weapons paid but is also willing to do what it takes to make that happen - I am thrilled beyond words I think pretty much all great players understand that they cant take all the money if they want to win because then the players around them will be lesser but I also think that very damn few of them are willing take less and/or to work with their team to ensure that they arent the only good player left on the field Most players are like Bates.....they say they want a great team around them but arent willing to take less to ensure that happens I see better than I hear -
I will say that I'd like him to add about 15-20 pounds of muscle before he comes to our camp Mr Ruby, can you send this guy some steaks? Which ones, you ask? All of them, please but I'll admit that I dont want any speed or quicks lost in doing so, and so I know this may well be quite unreasonable

Army, the comparisons to John Randle dont hurt at all https://www.cincyjungle.com/2023/2/7/23589666/bengals-mock-draft-2023-cincinnati-john-randle-calijah-kancey-pitt-panthers

for me, its still a pass rushing phenom at 3TDT, if indeed such a player is available at our r1 pick
