Army that's some wishful thinking, possible, but I'd take it.
-
They need a consistent pass rushing threat, rotational guy works if he's productive pressuring QB's. I can't imagine that isn't a priority for them. They had nothing with Hendrickson out against better teams. They need more talent there, wherever it comes from I guess. If the right OT falls to them, I'd be just as happy, but want to see something added to their pass rush, not more players named Sample (serviceable but low impact types).
-
I need to look at what Edge guys may fall to #28, I don't know what else they have planned, but depth is fine if it's an upgrade to say, Sample (Basham). With Hendrickson likely gone next year, and being their only real sack threat, who's constantly dinged-up, and they were 4th last in sacks, they really need to find an impact ER. Not sure they can afford one in FA, so better draft well, one injury away from being last in the league in sacks, if no one step's up. Regardless of Lou's system, you can't have that.

2023 Draft Talking Points
ShulaSteakhouse replied to TJJackson's topic in College Football/NFL Draft
"BYU OL Blake Freeland was put through drills by #Jets, #Bengals, and #Saints coaches today at his pro day, @TonyPauline wrote here remember, NYJ worked out Luke Wypler and Paris Johnson at OSU’s pro day the other day. showing obvious intrigue in this OL class" https://twitter.com/jetsbyjack/status/1639419722444750851?s=20 -

Whyle is someone not to sleep on in the 2nd or 3rd maybe (too high? 3rd sounds right to me I guess). Decent blocker too. Hometown guy from LaSalle and Bearcat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_F4h2A0AWE https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Josh-Whyle-TE-Cincinnati blocking highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYeLuz09ZxU -
2023 Draft Talking Points

My issue with Kincaid is his back injury, not very physical, worried about another 1st round injurry situation, sub par blocking. Great rec'r, but injury and beating he took college worry me. -

Just looking at this year's TE's tells you why they seem to be ok with not signing anyone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBbfxWktHhI -

LaPorta would look good in this offense I think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUKz2uyctzs -
If the Bengals' release Mixon, I believe they're on the hook for $7.5m, can't see them eating that (if I remember correctly), barring a trade where someone takes it on (doubtful), even if it's less than that. I suspect it's just Perine's role they want to change for now. At least Zeke can pass protect. Not sure what else he adds, unless a Perine role here revives him for a year somehow, and he wants to make $2.5m.
-
Hmm....none of his recent run-in's have sounded promising. Sounds like they're into something they shouldn't be if you ask me.
-
Bengals' running out of cash - despite Baghdad Hob's salary cap #'s, my understanding is they currently have about $10m available. Maybe they are waiting for the draft, before cutting/signing anyone else. https://www.bengals.com/news/bengals-set-to-host-uc-pro-day-as-they-pivot-to-nfl-draft

2023 Draft Talking Points
ShulaSteakhouse replied to TJJackson's topic in College Football/NFL Draft
I'm just looking at them all (the top 3-4 TE's) as capable receivers, but prefer one of the top 2 blocking TE's. IF they're gone, maybe wait until later for the TE pick. Someone like UC's Whyle would be interesting in the 4th or 5th if he's there, for example. Sign a FA though, regardless. -

PFF on draft's TE's: If Mayer drops, tough call, still want a RT or Edge rusher that can make an impact at this point. Even a CB or S if one is high enough, too many good TE's. https://www.pff.com/news/draft-tight-end-prospect-superlatives-nfl-2023 -
Moreau completed visits with the Bengals and Saints. Hometown vs former teammates possibly.
-
That is what I think the Bengals' will demand, and he' s not worth it and his salary, so I assume he is forced to play or hold-out and lose his checks? They almost have to go RT with the 1st pick at this point IMO. If Dawand Jones' is there, how do you pass that up?
-
I just don't think Fournette would be willing to take the Perine role, will get a better offer. But I get the idea, he fits Taylor's offense.
-
Gotta take a pass (edit: someone will scoop him up before the Bengals I think). I liked him too when he was younger, like Zeke. But they aren't the same now. (not sure what's going on with the forum BTW, lmao, security cert issue it seems maybe, won't allow embeds and is loading non-secure pages unless you browser force it etc...,). "However, Fournette's 2022 season got off to a rocky start when he showed up overweight to the team's OTAs and mandatory minicamp last offseason. He went on to average 3.5 yards per carry in 2022, the lowest of his Buccaneers career and the second-lowest number in the entire NFL that season among qualified rushers, ahead of only New York Jets running back Michael Carter. His dual-threat abilities as both a rusher and receiver still shined, though, as he was only one of three players in the entire league last season with over 650 rushing yards (668) and over 500 receiving yards (523) along with San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey and Ekeler. https://twitter.com/_Jo3y/status/1636880982128340992?s=20 Some Twitterer's Nick Scott highlights (INT's/PD only): (despite PFF 77 Run Def rating - which is very Bell-like) https://twitter.com/TylerBoydSzn/status/1636534097035112449?s=20

Nick Scott's a done deal. "Former Rams safety Nick Scott reached agreement on a three-year, $12 million deal with the Bengals, per source. Scott helped beat them in the Super Bowl and now will try to help the Bengals win their own." - Schefter --------------------- I will put my 2 cents in that I think this was a necessary signing and a good one. The more Scott has played, the more he produces. His experience is needed also. ST's stand out, quality depth at the very least.

I just don't know how much someone is giving up for an injury prone, mediocre LT who can't stay healthy for any real period of time. He's young and a former top 10 pick. That's it. So was Andre Smith. What team would he start for? (barring a future injury situation and desperation for some team) Especially if he only wants to play LT. Not sure if releasing him costs money yet, offhand, but if someone wants to pay an iffy LT with potential left that much money for a year, I'd take a 7th rounder at this point, if it means extending someone else with the cap space. It's that or he doesn't report and doesn't get paid, then Katie buys a 2023 Lumina.
-
Definitely not as productive, small, younger, but trending in Bell's direction, so yeah maybe the system change helps. They're talking to Rapp also, wonder if they'll sign both.
-
Nick Scott is the next signing, phew. (at least let's hope the deal gets finalized soon) https://twitter.com/CincyProblems/status/1636525080011239426?s=20
-
Yeah actually 17th in salary I think, it's not a bad deal despite the upfront $$. His grade is skewed, from what I understand, because he had more true pass blocking sets than any other LT in the league last year, and in a quick-pass offense like the Bengals', he will do better than blocking for someone running around holding onto the ball a lot etc..,
-
Sounds about right on drafting vs FA. Bengals' have really switched gears there with all of the o-line failed draft picks of late. The DT's and Edge guys are so freaky these days, wonder when OT's are going to start looking more like slower DE's vs the old school fatso's. Right now I'm assuming they may move Jonah to RT and/or cut Collins and Mixon to pay for Brown's front-loaded salary. Who knows if/when Collins' will be back and be effective again, desperation signing last year, if you can move on from it and save $$, do it, IMO. Draft a guy if you have to, will probably be just as good or better at this point (despite the above).
