bengalboomer7
Just thought I'd post this. If anyone heard it, please elaborateJOHNSON GUARANTEES SUPER BOWL, AND MORE On the heels of a win that most folks regard as a changing of the guard in the AFC North, Bengals receiver Chad Johnson guaranteed on The Dan Patrick Show that: (1) the Bengals will score at least 40 points per game for the rest of the season; (2) the Bengals will face the Colts in the AFC championship game at Indy; and (3) the Bengals will win the game. It takes the whole Joe Namath thing to a new level, in our view. Indeed, it's one thing to guarantee a win in one game in the days preceding it, as Namath did when the Jets prepared to face the Colts prior to Super Bowl III. It's quite another for Johnson to pull out the calendar and issue a checklist of things that will occur over the next seven weeks. Still, we like his moxie. Even if he might end up using that Terrible Towel of his to catch the crumbs whilst he eats his words.BTW, that was on profootballtalk.com
membengal
they are WAY oversensationalizing that. good interview on the DP show, cj was very reserved and good to listen to as always. Patrick spent two and half hours talking about how he needed to get some guarantees out of cj, and then when it finally came time hounded him during the interview for some kind of guarantee.I would put cj's tone as "playfully serious" in that he wasn't really promising those things, but was showing supreme confidence in his team.in fact, patrick tried to rag on the D and cj would have none of it, and said it would be on the D that they were going to ride to the super bowl. great interview actually, and nothing, none of it, the least bit controversial. Junglelove4
I dont think he gauranteed that. He said that he had a feeling the Bengals would score fourty points the next four games and beat indy in the AFC Championship game. I guess that could be taken as a guarantee, but i dont think thats what he said.
turningpoint
who cares about garuntees...every player in the nfl should be thinking they can score 40 points and beat anybody and win the superbowl.

Does ESPN ever get tired of trying to manufacture news?
BengalszoneBilly
ESPN Countdown guys are talking about it now.Jesus Christ! They're tooting our horn as loud and PROUD as any of us here!! And as far as Chad's guarantee on the Super Bowl, he's just backing up what Marvin Lewis said earlier this year about Cincinnati visiting Detroit twice this season!HOT DAMN! When was the last time it felt this freakin' GOOD to be a BENGALS FAN!! Too long I can assure you!
ShulaSteakhouse
Huh, they all picked the Bengals as their #2 team also. Obviously Denver losing had something to do with that, although Jaworski didn't even list Denver in his top 5 (opted for Bears and Panthers). I think the Broncos have been overrated all year long. We deserve it.Overrated as in beating 5 teams with winning records.I still have doubts we can go into Arrowhead and win. Don't be so quick to down the Broncos. The Bengals are good, but one loss and we too will be falling fast out of the top 5 (top 15 for Peter King) and fans all over the country will be saying i knew they were overrated all year long. Stripes
Doesn't matter to me whether or not he made this guarantee... The players can all taste it, so they'll give it all they've got... The Colts are in trouble!
LolaMoon
Doesn't matter to me whether or not he made this guarantee... The players can all taste it, so they'll give it all they've got... The Colts are in trouble!Actually, Chad's comments would mean less to the Colts at this moment than anyone going to the playoffs. I do not know if someone has explained to Chad how the playoffs work... but, you have to face one or two teams before even getting to the AFC Championship... and if the Bengals remain the 3rd seed... then they have to face two teams. Which if we were going off today's standings.. it would be San Diego and then Denver. Two teams that went to the playoffs last season and two teams that were just told by Chad that they have no chance against them in the playoffs. Denver and San Diego are two VERY good teams! Now, the Bengals could take the 2nd seed from the Bronco's and then they would have a first round BYE... I like Chad... and I know that the Colts players are laughing at his comments right now (knowing how the playoffs work)...I am just saying... it probably wasnt the best thing to do... because while his comments were directed at the Colts... he just insulted 4 other playoff teams in which they might have to play two! derekshank
Denver is a very good team.. they've proven that all season. This is why we need to get that first round bye... because we'll likely be playing them, either in our house after a bue or theirs after a wildcard victory. We are much more likely to win if it's in Cincy. The Broncos have a great running attack... They have depth and diversity... so I wouldn't guarantee a victory... but Plummer is starting to come back to earth and throw INT's again. If he does that, we will beat them. If not... I'd be concerned.

I'd be concerned.I think Denver is also a good team! They do have glaring weaknesses though! You can pass on them! On defense... you would just have to stop the run and force Plummer to pass... and you will get some turnovers. They are better than they were last year... that is for sure! But, they can be beat with a solid offensive performance and a decent defense attack! If I could pick any team that I fear the most... it would be the Chargers! They are peaking at the right time! LaDainian is hard to stop... but, if a defense can do what the Eagles did... shut down LT and force Brees to throw... you have a good shot at mistakes also. But, you have to worry about Gates and McCardell and Parker! They are more solid than people give them credit and I think that they are a better team than the Broncos even though their record doesnt imply that. With Chad making those comments... I do not think that he understands that your team just might have to play BOTH of these teams if they do not wrap up the 2nd seed. His comments have less to do with the Colts simply because there is really no way that our two teams will meet up unless it is in the AFC Championships. It has more to do with whoever your Bengals play before then... because even though the comments were directed mostly towards the Colts... he basically said that no other team in the playoffs has a shot at beating them in the playoffs. Like I said...I like Chad a lot! But, the playoffs are not the regular season! Everything is personal and when you are a team that has made it to the playoffs... no one wants to go home when they are that close to the Super Bowl... and no one wants to be told by a player of another team that they have no shot. The Colts are a pure example of this... Last year... the Broncos called the Colts soft heading into the wildcard game... the Colts stomped them!! Mike V. then said that the Patriots were "ripe for the picking" going into New England. The Patriots stomped the Colts! I can GUARANTEE that the Colts will not make any stupid statements going into the playoffs this year. A team can not afford to give their opponent in the playoffs bulletin board material in the playoffs because it WILL be taken out on them on the field! Chad is fun! And I am sure he meant no harm. I also know that he is excited and I know that he wants to see the Colts again! But, saying those things that he said... will not make it any easier on the Bengals going into the playoffs. Because, they played his comments like 4 times last night on ESPN and even though it may die down these next four weeks.. you better bet they will be played before the Bengals first playoff game. The media does that crap! The media is not your best friend in the playoffs. They will pound and pound players for comments to make a story! And, players of the team that you will play... WILL use it against you! It is a whole new ball game in the playoffs... regular season records and games mean squat! Everyone is 0-0 going into the playoffs! indybengalsfan72
It's being talked about on the Colts Board as well, and of course they're raising hell. I really hope that this turns into an intense rivalry, because it's fun seeing those guys get riled up. At work, I catch hell for wearing my Carson Palmer jersey, as people will say, "go back to the litter box", or "you smell like kitty litter", and I usually say "Well, it's better than horse *&^% or processed dog food, which is what will happen after the rematch." http://www2.indystar.com/forums/showthread...538#post1836538
Spain
I bet Marvins pissed, However I do agree with Chad this team is playing pitch and catch with every defense they come across. Indy is beatable. In the last game our D was playing horrible they have picked it up since then. You have to remember that these guys are learning to play together. They only need to stop Indy a couple of times and the games ours. Denver is another story, Jake cant keep up with Palmer where Peyton can. This team is vulnerable and I think San Deigo is a loss for them. If we take KC out. We are the number two seed. The one thing that might affetc this is if the KC game is meaningless and they are we can rest our players. I will be watching this D the next couple of games, if they contnue to get better the Super Bowl is not out of the question. Another point I will be watching is who is limping in the playoffs. For this reaon the Steelers and Jags might have problems. The Pats are also in shambles. The only team that makes me nervous is Indy. That includes the NFC,(which I have no respect for)
