pollack coming out game?

I think Pollack had two good plays today, the sack and the rush that allowed Odell to make a play. That's it. He definitely got much more playing time than he has had in any other game thus far and he was only able to do something on two of those plays. He has a long way to go still. Overall I was not very impressed today with the way he played.

I think he was lined up at defensive end when he made the sack, hopefully we can see similar success from him as a linebacker.

I like this aspect of David Pollack. It keeps their offensive line guessing and let's him fully utilize all of his skills.

Negative plays I noticed for Pollack.

*The 3rd and 1 naked boot, Pollack started down the line taking the fake on the dive and then looked at Carr to see if he had the ball. Carr did a good job of hiding the ball and David didn't he notice he had it, he pursued down the line toward the fake and left Carr open to scramble for an easy first down plus some. Even if he had stopped and redirected upon he seeing Carr it would have been too late to prevent the first down because he bit so badly on the initial fake.

Thats about the only blatantly bad play I saw him make.

Positive plays I noticed for Pollack.

*Obviously the sack. Got the elusive Carr for a huge loss of yds. Everyone probabley remembers that one.

* Odells sack. On this play Pollack lined up as an end, but dropped into coverage. Odell instead blitzed, obviously confusing the O-line. It appeared the Carrs first read was to the RBs out of the backfield but Pollack just happened to have dropped right into the area of the backs routes. Carr pulls down the ball and Odell eats him up. This play is more a credit to the scheme as niether player did anything more than would be expected. Odell came in unblocked, and Pollack just dropped into his zone.

* The offsides by Victor Riley. Riley got an early start, and Pollack still beat him around the corner. The texans looked like they were going play action pass, and by the time the whistle blew (because of Rileys offsides) Pollack was no more than a step and a half from blindsided Carr whoe was coming out of his play action. Would have been an easy sack.

* Several rushing attempts by the Texans, where Pollack would beat his man to the inside, get penetration and force the back to bounce wide. For some reason, the LBs weren't there to make the tackle on a couple of these. This may be a case of David not playing the scheme (shooting to the inside to make a play as opposed to maintaining his contain resposibility), or it may be a case of Texans interior line getting to the second level and holding the backers up. So really these could be posistives or negatives depending on the defense called. I put it in the positive section because either way he beat the man that was supposed to block him.

*The Texans final drive attempt. Cincinatti was bringing only a 3 man rush but on the first 2 downs Carr had to step up into the pocket and hit his check down much quicker than one would imagine, allowing very little time for he to look down field. Why? Pollack was beating his man clearly and Carr had to get rid of the ball before being sacked. On these attempts, I'd say Carr held the ball no longer than 2 seconds before Pollack forced the early throw. ON the next to plays, guess what the Texans did.? They kept a back in on Pollacks side and double teamed him in order to give Carr time to look down field. So on only a 3 man rush the Texans felt the need to go with an extra back for portection because Pollack was beating his man so quickly. These are the kinds of things that don't show up on stat sheets but make a difference.

*I too noticed in previous games he seems to get held. (Especially Minnesota). Bryant McKinnie was just flat out grabbing him from behind when Pollack would get the corner on him. I think the officials felt sorry for the Vikings and the arse whipping they were recieving and just let the holding slide.

Does anyone know how Landon Johnson has been playing so far this season? You never seem to hear anything about him.

He was all over the field today, looked to me like he had damn fine game, along with the rest of the defense.

Well, four games in and the Pollack training camp is over.

Nice to see he is getting up to speed. He is quick and aggressive. That will net us big as we hit the meat of the schedule, with road games in SEC land over the next 2 weeks. Plenty of Dawgs down there.

Now if we can keep getting good production out of KK and Ohalete till MW gets better.

I was at the game and when he played at de he was held just about every play but got no calls. he is to quick for a tackle to block and also strong enough to take on the blocks. he did have a couple bad plays but he is a rookie and all rookies and veterens for that matter make mistakes. he is looking good to me.

Pollack may very well have his coming out game next week in Jacksonville. The primetime atmoshpere will have him fired up like never before, and I think the Jaguars have a suspect offensive line. Leftwich tends to be pressured often, just like Carr, and with increased reps, Pollack could come up big.

Great stuff. The Bengals produced 7 sacks against the Texans, each one by a different player...a sure sign that the scheme is producing most of the sacks as opposed to great individual play. That said, Pollacks double spin move was exceptional.

Best, the Bengals managed solid pressure on most occasions, early and late, where they rushed just four down lineman. Most of the blitzing seemed to come later in the game and was largely limited to a single player with the sack by O'Dawg was a notable exception as K2 nearly got to Carr as quickly.

One main reason I say no is that most of the plays he's making our at his original position, DE. I haven't seen him make any plays as a linebacker and that's more of what I'm looking for. I did notice that the very few times he's dropped back into coverage he looks smooth, but also looks a little lost too.

Go back and watch the tape again -- Pollack had one or two plays when he DID NOT apply pressure. ALL of the other times he was a factor in applying pressure or getting held.

The Texans had to double team him on the play that Simmons made the sack. That tells what the Texans thought of his pass rush.

Your sound like another of those folks that complain unless the DE gets a sack on every play. That will never happen.

Its still too early to start ripping Pollack -- his real payoff will come when he can use that quickness and position flexibility to create havoc for the opponents offense.
