schnarfer Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Here is an interesting comment made my CP on bengals.com:“It messes it up a little bit,” quarterback Carson Palmer said of the impact on chemistry. “There’s not a guy that had a bad thing to say about Pete, so when you lose a character guy like that, it’s tough on the entire team. Looking at it from the organization’s standpoint, it frees up a lot of money to go after a guy like Corey Simon. They need to use that money for somebody else. I think everybody understands the reason they cut Peter.”Maybe he knows something we don't Quote

Bgal Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 I'm going to be upset if Warrick ends up going somewhere else, starting the 1st game, and being an impact. I'd much rather have a healthy Pdub than an overrated DT. I can handle us cutting him b/c he isn't healthy but not b/c they wanted some extra cap room. Quote

redsfan2 Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 I don't know .. until I hear that the Bengals are bringing him to town, I'm just chalking this up to an off hand remark and nothing more. If there is a message, I would agree that its directed at management saying " Well .. you cut PDub ... now who are you going to bring it to make it worthwile ?? " Quote

I have'nt heard about Simon visiting anyone yet. Which is weird because we know that PDub went to Seattle already. Simon is a better player and a marquee free agent so why isn't the media telling where he is going to visit?I think he may have already worked out a deal somewhere. Quote

HoosierCat Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 There have been several teams alleged to have interest in Simon, including Miami, Baltimore, New York (Giants), KC, Seattle, San Fran, and Indianapolis.A couple people have mentioned the Bengals, but they don't appear to be seriously in the chase, at least not now (and I doubt very highly that they will become involved). Per Curnutte, they aren't expected to pursue Simon.Tom Donahoe in Buffalo said the Bills aren't interested. There was a rumor that Saban in Miami was looking for ways to clear cap space to try to sign Simon. Simon told one of the Miami papers that the idea of playing in Miami "intrigued" him (in about the same sense one might find jumping into a tub of crap "intriguing," I'll warrant) but that there was "nothing to talk about" regarding the Fins.EDIT: Hobson contradicts Curnutte...SIMON SAYS: Head coach Marvin Lewis said the Bengals have talked to the agent for defensive tackle Corey Simon and the club is interested in pursing him. But he wouldn’t elaborate on the level of interest on either side, or discuss a price range. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Yes, but Jamie Sharper was intrigued in Playing in Cincy for Marvin, but he joined the Hawks...SO he is just talking. Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 First, props to Palmer for assuming a leadership role that goes beyond the huddle. It's good to see, and it's fair that he demand the Bengals reinvest any savings from cutting Warrick back into the team. That said, it's still the Bengals choice about how that money is spent. If it's used for Simon, fine. If it's used to extend an existing contract, fine. And if the Bengals feel that the money is best spent signing more than one player instead of Simon that's fine too. Just keep trying to improve the ballclub by following whatever plan will result in a championship. Quote

Signing a still young top-tier free agent demanding the type of coin that Simon will might dictate the Bengals change the way they typically pursue the player. For example, why not be the team that let's other teams do the chasing before stepping in at the last moment with a take-it-or-leave-it first and last offer? How many times have we seen the Raiders or Cowboys sign a FA that never visited? They wait on the fringe, take a pulse check now and then, and then pick up a telephone. Quote
BengalPappaw Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 I was also interested in the comments by Marvin after letting PW go. I found the ML statement that "some people" ( I read this as my buddy Mikee) in the organization did not care for the comments that PW had made about wanting to be released as soon as possible. Most of the players seemed to be taking -- this is a just "business move" attitude. I believe this kind of attitude will lead us to losing key players because they will leave to get more money somewhere else.WE had better have a winning season!!! Quote

What do they expect - Warrick should be happy about the team hiding him on the PUP list as long as possible, benching him, and giving him no chance to win any playing time? The guy deserves at least a chance to show what he can do, and he didn't get that here.I could see it if they gave him a chance and he just sucked, but that wasn't the case. Quote

They probably did know they would be cutting him, but they waited for business reasons. They probably wanted to make sure Arizona would cut Olahete before openng space for him, and Navies came as a bonus. Just my take. Quote
andybren Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 The Bengals never wanted to activate Warrick. They only did so to avoid a possible grievance. Instead of giving Warrick slack for calling them on it, they should be giving him credit for not being stupid enough to buy Mike and Marvin's line of b.s.Say what you will about his past performance, his health, his rehab diligence...over the past month, Warrick was right every step of the way.I just wish my respect for Marvin the coach could extend to Marvin the politician/defacto general manager. Quote
blueridge Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Warrick may have been popular with his fellow players, but he was also:(1)a lousy 4th overall pick;(2)a shadow of his former underwhelming self;and(3)one of the few remaining links to the bad old days. I'm not sorry to see him go. Quote
volcom69 Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 what this def. needs is a leader someone to get on everyones ass when things arnt going right i have not seen this yet, i remember last season when the philly def was not playing well he went up to every single guy on that starting d and fired them up and they went out and played great. Thats what we need someone to come in and do that cause i havent seen a player here do that yet. So i say if they want him get him and get him now. Quote

If I can't get fired up playing a game I love, then I need to find something else to do!Screaming, loudmouth, explosive tempered "Leaders" who attempt to "fire everyone up" by screaming and shouting get nowhere, at least with the teams I've played on. Oh, I've no doubt they are keeping their ear to the ground. I just think the most likely scenario is that he draws a "funny money" deal from somewhere, one that pays him $5-6 million this year but whose 06 cap hit mandates he be cut or restructured. Thus he gets out at the start of FA next year. Matching that would require the bengals to do just what you say, change the way they do business. I certainly couldn't complain about that. Quote
volcom69 Posted September 1, 2005 Report Posted September 1, 2005 im not saying he went buck wild on the guys but he did fire them up to play better and i thought that was great what he did. It should to when they went back out on the field. Quote
