derekshank
Not sure how he is a blocker, and he is getting older, but the Texans released him, and he was a stud just a couple years ago. He's certainly a better receiver than any TE we have... but I don't know about his blocking, which seems to be pretty important to the coaching staff. Does anyone else know more about him, and if the Bengals are in the market... or are we only looking at safeties?
LABengalsFan09
Stats have declined in each of the last 3 seasons....We should pass on this one. The best TE may be Patrick Hape whom is expected to be released by the Broncos tomorrow.

ShulaSteakhouse
If, Marvin means what he says, "we don't keep players just because they're good guys any longer," then he'll cut Stewart and sign someone with more upside or ability, if there is one. Pape and Miller both seem like cases of that to me if they aren't signed by someone else first, if they are minimum salaried players at this point, dunno. Stripes
I don't think we'll be seeing any new tight ends with the Bengals until the 3rd round or later of the 2006 draft. Marvin doesn't think it's a pressing need, and so far, what he had said, has gone.
walshfan
We really miss Reggie Kelly.. Is there any doubt now how valuable he is to the offensive line...Its like having another OT in there......glad to have him back..
Kazkal
Meh we got matt schobel he'll get the job done
BengalszoneBilly
Hmmm. His name has a nice ring to it to me. I say pick him up, he's bound to be good! Actually, I think we're just fine in the TE department. I know many others here will beg to differ!
The_Next_Big_Thing
Schobel has looked much better during this preseason than in years past. I'm taking a break from calling for him to be cut (or drawn and quartered) until he fouls up at least 2 games in a row.
skyline
I've always liked Schobel. I think the sad fact is that Brats system doesn't utilize the TE as a receiver. They do it occasionally, but they're out there to block more than anything. Therefore, the Bengals will show no interest in this guy whatsoever. AMC
I prefer not to make the focus of the offense a TE...the 3 TE complimentary system is not bad IMO...but the days of Rodney Holman were pretty sweet...I just hope we don't tip our play packages, based on which TE is in the game....Kelly =blocking etc... HairOnFire
I'm drawing a blank on his name right now but the Carolina Panthers have a 280 lb. TE whose clinging to the bottom of their roster. I couldn't take my eyes off him during the 2nd half of the Brownie game. Moves real well, has soft hands, blocked well against backups, and I think he actually killed a Brownie DB who tried to tackle him after a sweet catch. Granted, I know my support for this player would seem more impressive if I could remember the guys name but I can't seem to access that file in my wetware. kmhbengalfan
Haironfire, is the Tight end you speak of Chad Muster or Michael Gaines?
HairOnFire
Haironfire, is the Tight end you speak of Chad Muster or Michael Gaines? It was Gaines. I know absolutely nothing about the guy and I'm not going to predict stardom or anything of the sorts. But he did catch my eye and if his name shows up on a cut list I'll be curious where he ends up. HoosierCat
Oh, you people are killing me, c'mon, didn'y you hear? The Chargers released Sean Brewer!!!Eff Miller and Gaines, go get the dee-oh-gee!!!
TJJackson
He said he'd be right over to sign a FA at PBS, just as soon as he's had a few beers and finished off a couple of cigs
ShulaSteakhouse
The Bengals desperately need a complete TE of some sort, that doesn't get hurt constantly.

Add your boy Danny Farmer to the scrap heap...err....scrap book. I mentioned Gaines only because he's the type of player I'd be pounding the bushes for. Young, raw, and physically gifted. If he gets cut I'd be very interested. As for the idea of signing an old retread....I'm tired of that. (Pun intended.)

A complete TE won't come cheap or often how many are there out their that are a awesome blocker and receiver? I thought matt has improved as a blocker in the redskin game I say we just stick with what we have
