badassBENGAL
Oh, you're a smart guy. Let's make Perry the starter based on his performance against the Patriots and Redskins 2nd stringers in the preseason. Yea, that's a good idea.Oh, and don't forget about the few times he ran the ball last season as well. Perry has such a storied rushing history. Damn straight. I'm surprised he didn't make the Pro Bowl on that 1 yard and .5 YPC he had last season!
Redlegs
I think having both of them back there is going to be awesome. James Brooks and Stanley Wilson worked great together as mentioned earlier. Brooks and Ickey worked well also. All the way to Superbowl XXIII. Please do not try and bring sanity to DPM's madness, it just draws you into the looney bin with him and somehow brings him satisfaction.Rest assured, pretty much everyone on this board and across Bengaldom agrees with you, this team is immeasurably better if Perry is healthy and helps to balance and deepen their rushing attack... kingwilly
DPM-you aksed ofr all you've gotten....but I'll bite. Perry won't start at all this year. Rudi will put up enough stats and produce in this system. Perry's skills are undeniable and we should all hope he wil execute in the regular season at an even higher level. By Perry's own admission, he is at "77...78%", so once he is at full gas, it should be very entertaining. WHat Perry does do is make Rudi more effeetive. It will be very hard for a D to handle the change-ups going from rudi-to-Perry-to-rudi...with all the risks in the pass attack.Rudi will put up big stats early and here are 6 reasons below. Hell, he could even be leading the NFL in rushing with these foes, while playing with a lead and running the ball extensively late in the game. THings get hairy from then on, but Perry will not start in 2005. I do think Perry may be the key to us getting past Pitt and Bal to win the AFC Central.at ClevelandSun. I understand your irritation, but truly, you can't generalize what happens on Bengalszone by the posts of Spain or Dont Push Me. In my short tenure as a member of this website, I have come to these conclusions: Spain is a rational human being with the ability to think straight, but that is frequently hampered by his alcohol intake and desire for female accompanyment.Don't Push Me is a little harder to describe. I picture him as a young man, between the ages of 17 and 25, that at one time in his life (perhaps more) earned a 4.0 GPA in school. Add those grades to an already haughty personality, and you have a man that lives by stubborness. No matter what arguments or insults are thrown his way, he refuses to deviate from whatever claim he is backing. In most recent cases, that would be Perry over Rudi. It is very easy to argue in Rudi's favor for obvious reasons, and I believe Don't Push Me fully understands why Rudi is the current starter and not Perry. For whatever reason, he has clung to Perry, and no matter what he is told, he will continue clinging. He should feel fortunate that I have devoted this much typing energy to his existence. Sox
Personally,I wouldn't mind if Perry eventually starts. That means we have two talented back.I believe Rudi is more powerful, and better between the tackles.I believe Perry to be more elusive,a better receiver, and faster. They complement each other nicely. What I'd like to know,is having watched DPM's irrational after irrational blind hatred posts concerning Rudi...I just wonder if he'd/she/it would be pimping Perry so hard if Perry would have been the one to push Leon to the curb, and eventually the trading block. My guess is no. andybren
Considering how my memories of the James Brooks-Ickey Woods backfield helped survive the 90's, I've been trying to avoid this issue, other than the occassional "thunder and lightning" comment. But I will say this:Friday night's game was probably the first time (other than Ohio State-Michigan games) that I saw Chris Perry play consistently. And he's a lot of fun to watch. I think Rev. Orange touched upon it in his item #10 --- if given a choice between a Woody-Hayes-three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust kind of RB and a Barry-Sanders-separate-the-defender-from-his-jockstrap kind of RB, most people would prefer to watch the latter. Assuming they were both getting the same amount of yards, TD's, etc. That being said, I remain firmly in the thunder-and-lightning camp and see no reason to join any other side of the debate. If Rudi starts or Perry starts, I don't care. As long as the team wins.I just wonder if, the night before the Super Bowl, Marvin announces that he finally has decided to start Perry over Rudi, how quickly DPM will be logging on to put it in his fellow fans' faces. Sad, really. Who dey.

Several months ago a poster claimed you were the master of that sort of thing and in response to the praise I felt you couldn't have patted yourself on the back any harder. So I made a mental note of the fact that you took a great deal of pride in saying things merely to get a response and as a result I decided if you were still doing it when the whistle blew I'd give it a go. And guess what happened? You were easy. That said I really do love the bit about you claiming Perry was a wasted draft pick. Cracks me up everytime I think about it. In fact, I love it so much I'll probably keep bringing it up.

All your 'baits' did was help keep this thread going, and give me more of an excuse to preach that Chris Perry is better than Rudi Johnson. This is something that i WANT to discuss, that is why I put up thread after thread about it. You, and some of the others are the ones who want to avoid this convo. Nice try though. Not that I dont truely feel Perry should be starting, because I absolutely do.And BB, nah, i voted week 4-6, I think RJ will get a few starts just to be fair, but his feeble grip on the starting job will fall shortly after that.BTW, i didnt say Perry was a wasted draft pick. I said it wasnt a need, then once I calmed down and realized that it both was a need, and was the best player available, I began saying that he was indeed the right pick there, which happened as early as my posts about our 2nd round picks. So keep clinging to your warped versions of reality, its all youve got.Another thing to throw out there:RJs salary per year..2005 1,800,000.002006 1,300,000.002007 3,050,000.002008 3,200,000.002009 3,600,000.00Looks to me like the plan is to keep him around for 05 and 06 and then cut/trade him. DontPushMe
No, you are blinded by your dislike of me. I made this post because I wanted to discuss how awesome Chris Perry is. Anything that keeps this thread going is good for me. And I didnt repeat any arguements, I have numerous valid arguements. Far more than the Rudi Johnson side has. Also, I will continue displaying this opinion untill Chris Perry is a starter, either with the bengals, or somewhere else.BTW haters, it looks like more than half of the posters here think that Chris Perry will be starting here by 06. Chances are most of them are closet Perry fans, they dont want to voice their opinions because everyone except me and a few others here are sheep. Its like Spains comment, they are only capable of group thinking. Afraid to stand out in the group because they don't want to look different. Thats why using a poll was such a great idea. Jet23
Don't base you decision on the preseason. Due to Johnson's style of running, timing is much more critical to him than it is to an allusive back such as Perry. He also missed Big Willie a great deal. With that being said, I can't help but think Perry is the starter of the future, provided he stays healthy. I love RJ, but given Perry's versatility, I see him as a top 5 caliber rb.Reminding me of JB doesn't hurt either.
redsbengalsbucks
I just watched the second preseason game and I saw two running backs that need to improve or the running game is not going to be as impressive as I thought. Perry looked a bit better than Rudi, but Rudi looked better than Perry in Week 1. Looks like a situational running game for the Bengals this year, something that has not been there in the recent past, this is a good thing. Wraith
"Far more than the Rudi Johnson side has"1454 yards 12 TDs. Last I checked Rudi did better behind a Bengals line last year than Corey ever did. Note the words Bengals line?
TJJackson
He starts when we trade him to Philly or to Miami.Oh, you meant on the Bengals? That'd be after (err, if) Rudi gets injured. He'll have a better shot next year when Kenny Watson is eligible for FA and the Bengals "allow him to leave" on the basis that Perry is cheaper, albeit not better. That makes him an incredibly expensive backup.I'm hoping they get some use for him. Are they waiting until the regular season to unveil the two-back set or what?
