ArmyBengal Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 The Packers released CB Trevon Diggs and he cleared waivers. Yeah he’s had injuries but he’s no longer bound to that big contract at this point. What’s the harm in bringing him in? Clearly no one is going to offer him much. 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 28 Author Report Posted January 28 Chase Brown extension in the works. Quote One key piece of the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense is eyeing a potential contract extension. Running back Chase Brown told ESPN on Tuesday that his representation is in talks with the team regarding a new deal. Following the conclusion of his third NFL season, Brown is eligible for an extension. Brown, who turns 26 in March, still has one year remaining on his rookie contract. But after a big season, Brown is hoping to secure his long-term future with the Bengals. “I would love to do something and be a part of this team,” Brown said in an interview promoting Bounty. “I don’t want to go anywhere else.” Brown said the Bengals and his representation have been “working hard” and “been in communication” regarding a potential extension. Last season, Brown was 11th in the NFL in scrimmage yards with a team-high 1,456. In addition to his 1,019 rushing yards, Brown was sixth among all running backs with 437 receiving yards. A CB extension wouldn't have been the first thing on my offseason to-do list, but it's fine. Just get it done now, don't do the drag-talks-into-August thing the Bengals usually do. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Wow working a new deal for a solid player before it becomes a massive distraction? Wonders never cease. Risner please... 2 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 I took a look at ESPN's top 50 free agents. Granted, many may not get a chance to see the market, but it's fun to consider. DON'T GET ME WRONG. I am not thinking any top tier guy is signed. I would love pulling Center Tyler Linderbaum from the Ravens. That would solve the Center position for the next 4 years while hurting the Ravens at the same time. Speaking of the Ravens, their former DE Odafe Oweh was traded and did well for the Chargers. Depending on what happens with Trey, this guy would be on my list. CB Riq Woolen might not be the best CB in the league, but he would be an upgrade to that unit. Turner, Hill and Woolen would be a nice set at the position. Outside of those three, there are a bunch of other intriguing players that could certainly improve the roster. I really want to be excited about the 2026 Bengals and free agency would be a great starting point. 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 28 Author Report Posted January 28 Well, a great starting point would be No. 1 on the list. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47734163/2026-nfl-free-agency-top-50-ranking-hendrickson-pickens-hall-willis It is so. fucking. Bengals. that the No. 1 overall FA is a Bengal and everyone from the FO to the fans has written him off. I guess they could still franchise him but I'm not getting any vibes so far that that is on the table. My top choice to pursue after Trey would be WR George Pickens because TJ's rant would be EPIC. Linderbaum? Sorry Army, that makes waaaaaay too much sense for this organization. QB Daniel Jones would be good to have in preparation for the inevitable Joe Burrow injury. More seriously, DL John Franklin-Meyers would be an good add and he might be in their price range. S Bryan Cook? Yes, please. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Yes, as I mentioned there are plenty of intriguing guys on that list. Not sure they make it to the market after tags are applied, but we will see. Trey? I just think everyone is fatigued with everything related to him. He was a hell of a pick up for us, has been a hell of a player, but he seems destined to leave. If they tag him, I think all hell will break loose and lets be honest, no one wants that. There are other younger, solid edge guys in free agency that may be more affordable long term. Of course I also expect another DE in the draft as well. Keep going to the well boys. I have tempered excitement heading into free agency. 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 This is more draft related but Bengals specific. I was searching Bengals crap and came across the news release from last year of the Bengals hiring 3 new personnel to their scouting department. Two are scouts and one is a scouting research analyst. The two scouts have previous time with the Patriots and Panthers, where the analyst had a single season with the Bills last year. Thing is, they were hired over the summer after the 2025 draft, so they had no impact on that group. I am left to wonder, since all Bengals fans note the lack of scouting, if their additions to the team bear fruit. I mean it certainly can't hurt having two more sets of eyes on players and someone doing analytics. To Josh Hinch, Tyler Ramsey, and Trey LaBounty... DO GOOD SHIT Please and thank you. Quote
COB Posted January 30 Report Posted January 30 So great that Jim Schwartz is leaving the Browns. He’s a great defensive coach and not having to face him twice a year is a big plus for us. 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 30 Author Report Posted January 30 PFF's top 250 FAs: https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-free-agent-rankings-2026 Also have Trey as the top FA. Interestingly they only see him getting something like a one year, $21 million deal. Consider that versus the $77 million deal the project for Oweh at 7. If that's the case the Bengals should at least make Hendrickson an offer. They have Bryan Cook at $12 million a year. I'd do that in a heartbeat. Not a huge fan of the "bring back Reader" crowd but at one year, $4.5 million I'd be OK with it. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 30 Report Posted January 30 Regarding Oweh though, it can't be forgotten the Bengals offered Trey a 3 year deal worth $95m which he turned down due to guaranteed money/years. Oweh for 4 years at $77m isn't a bad projection. He's 27 so maybe a 3 year deal for $58m? I wouldn't mad about that. That Devin Lloyd contract projection doesn't hurt my feelings either. Yes, to the Brian Cook deal as well. Don't want to pay Oweh? What about CB Jaylen Watson at 3 years and $45m? Him and Cook are both very reliable tacklers as well. Again, there are other interesting players. It will be interesting to see what happens. 1 Quote

I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out for Trey. So much so that I put “nfl teams that need edge rushers the most” into safari. The first team AI came up with, in an obvious (but unsuccessful) attempt to troll me, was Cincy. But on our level also were the Lions and the Cowboys. Then a second level of teams needing edge help included the Eagle, Bills, Saints, and Chargers. I can’t guess if he’ll eclipse the 32 million a year we offered him, but it is my fervent hope that the Cowboys sign him so he then gets to deal with Jerra, who is basically Mike with Ozempic and a better haircut. 2 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 Had he broken both ankles during a celebration during a meaningless event, that would have been the most Bengals thing ever. Side note, Burrow throws an INT to seal the game for the NFC. I read that on ESPN I think this morning. Didn't want to give anyone the impression I watched that nonsense. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 Specific to free agency, this time of the year is really getting on my nerves with every story you read about the Bengals has something to do with why (pick your free agent) should be signed by the Bengals. That's literally one article listing damn near every top 50 free agent, because they could all help the roster in one way or another, and you are done for all of free agency. Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 4 Author Report Posted February 4 It’s nothing but a daily flood of AI generated bullshit now. The enshittification of sports and media both continue apace. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 It really makes me feel good to see the stars on this team speak up. They know the defense needs to get help and didn’t stop there naming names to target and even suggesting trades. Thanks Ja’Marr and Tee !! https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/onsi/allbengals-insiders-plus/ja-marr-chase-and-tee-higgins-name-two-stars-bengals-should-trade-for-this-offseason-01kgnc59sbna 1 Quote
Stripes Posted February 5 Report Posted February 5 Just imagine the Cincinnati Bengals trading significant draft assets to acquire top-end defenders for a Super Bowl run. They absolutely should try to do that. They'll never even lift the phone receiver from its rotary dial, however. Mike wouldn't miss his 1967 reruns of Gunsmoke on TV Land for that. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 5 Report Posted February 5 When considering the offensive talent they have, making big moves (future draft picks) for top tier defensive talent would be amazing to see. They won't consider it though, because even though that might get fans even more excited to come to the stadium and buy more shit, they can do nothing and still rake in the dollars. They probably figure there's enough talent and hope to continue bringing fans to the stadium who will continue buying shit. I hope guys like Chase and Higgins keep talking like this. That's really the only thing I can see moving their thought process even a little bit. The players, not the fans. Quote

Sounds like an awful lot of work. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 I get the premise of why they and any other team might not want to do that. Even if they could get Crosby for this year's and next year's first round picks, that's two first rounders on rookie deals for at least the next 4 years, while paying one player who's going to be 29 this year a fuck ton of money for the next 3 years. The money isn't my biggest concern, as they were willing to pay Trey $30m+ per season so that's a trade off. However, it's about really pushing things to try to win it all. Taking risks. Hang your balls out there. The Bengals won't do that. I don't think their balls ever dropped to take the risk of hanging them out there. Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 9 Author Report Posted February 9 Oh joy they might tag Trey again… https://www.cincyjungle.com/cincinnati-bengals-rumors/185749/trey-hendrickson-franchise-tag Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 Tag Trey and give him more than $30 million, knowing it's going to make things stupid? Yeah, that's a no for me. Can't fathom there being any type of good to come from that. Tag and trade? Don't see that happening either. For one, he would need to sign the deal. That guarantees it for 2026 and I'm not sure a team would pay him more than $30m. Even if they gave him a new deal, that money for 2026 is locked in. While I think teams would be interested in Trey, I don't think they want to pay him like that. Especially when considering he's coming off an injury and turns 32 this year. The Bengals just don't give the impression they could pull that off. That would register as the most shocking Bengals thing ever. Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 9 Author Report Posted February 9 Yeah, I agree. As aggravating as I find it, the time has passed. If they were going to sign him long-term or deal him, last year was the year. That said, I could see it only because it's so very, very, very Bengals. Right now they are looking at something around $55 million in cap space, a number that already has fans excited. No better way to nip any hope in the bud than by dropping a $30 million tag onto Trey, followed by the annual Geoff H. article hobsonizing the numbers: "they need $5 million for the rookie pool and $5 million for the injury pad and $10 million to carry over to 2027 and they have to sign these 10 third-stringers to fill out the roster so actually they are flat busted broke, here's a link to Mike's gofundme, help if you can, the Lumina's a real gas hog, y'know." Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 There are better ways to spend that money than on Trey. Besides those core vaginal muscle injuries take time to heal up properly. 1 Quote
