Now I need to find that guy on Twitter that told me in no uncertain terms that the Bengals did not have the cap space to pay Chase, Tee, Trey, AND sign a starting-level guard.

Unfortunately, I will absolutely not do that. For someone with 23,000 posts on a forum called "Bengalszone", I do have something resembling a life.

Had to look to see how many posts I had after seeing this, I’m over 24,000. Man I started here a young 20 something kid, to an old 44 year old man, had 2 kids got married, been through a lot since I signed up here way back when.

Color me happy with the Risner signing. There were people not thrilled but what makes Patrick so much better? Because he was already on the roster? Had Patrick not been signed early on, I think there’s as good a chance as not that he would be right where Risner was in waiting to sign.

Even if he’s nothing more than solid veteran depth, that’s a huge get. I’m a time where the supply doesn’t meet the demand, I’ll take a guy like Risner all day.

I don’t have a problem with Risner either but there’s a reason he was still there. He’s a 30-year-old with back problems. He might be able to give us 10 games, or he might only last 10 plays. I’d rather have him than not but he’s an OWUD and we’ve seen that movie before. If we need him I just hope he lasts.

At worse Risner is depth.   Whether or not that's good depth or if he can displace a starter remains to be seen.   I think its questionable because I can't see an available  capable starting guard going for so cheap and being available for so long.

In addition, one of his rumored visits was Pittsburgh.   Pittsburgh cut Max Scharping then resigned him.  So???

Bengals apparently did make one waiver claim, for DT Jordan Jefferson, but SF got there first.

So they are in the market for a DT. I believe they still have one taxi squad seat left, so the scenario sketched out in the above link, where they sign someone and then try to get Gregory or Cross through waivers to the PS, is still possible.

Bleacher Report on who's available...

Quote

1. Morgan Fox

2. Sheldon Day

3. Christian Wilkins

Teams in need of quality defensive help are in far more luck than those needing offensive assistance. Morgan Fox, for example, appeared in all 17 games with three starts for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024. He finished the 2024 season with 27 tackles, 3.5 sacks and four tackles for loss.

While Fox signed with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason, he was waived as part of final cuts.

The Washington Commanders released Sheldon Day after the 31-year-old amassed 21 tackles in 12 appearances last season. While Day doesn't have the starting experience of Fox (34 career starts), he's been a pretty dependable rotational player throughout his 85-game career.

Christian Wilkins is the wild card of the defensive-line market. The Las Vegas Raiders' prized 2024 free agent was released after a little over a year and after he missed most of last season with a foot injury.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Raiders voided Wilkins' guarantees because of "how Wilkins treated the rehab from his foot injury."

Health should be a concern for potentially interested teams, but Wilkins boasts a resume that includes 82 starts, 372 tackles and 22.5 sacks.

Yeast also announced.

Also signed OT Javon Foster.

Quote

Foster (6-5, 319), a second-year player out of the University of Missouri, originally was a fourth-round draft pick of Jacksonville in 2024. He played in four games for the Jaguars and was inactive in 13 contests.

Cut Gregory and Cochran. One open PS spot.

Zierlein’s draft profile for Foster:

Quote

Durable three-year starter whose arm length and strain can help make up for below-average athletic qualities as a tackle. Foster lacks fluidity in his pass sets and proper footwork with certain run blocks, but he gets his job done. He’s very capable as a zone blocker, maintaining his pacing and sustain, and he’s a thinker in pass sets with a nice approach to diversifying his punch to keep rushers guessing. Foster isn’t a natural knee-bender and that lack of leverage shows up as a drive blocker and when handling bull rushers. The question for Foster will be whether he can improve his footwork enough to become a more efficient blocker. He has the tape to project as a backup with starter potential.

Jacksonville Jaguars: T Javon Foster, PICK 114

The Jaguars took fliers on some higher-ceiling athletes with their first three picks of the draft, but their fourth pick might have been my favorite: Javon Foster. Foster isn’t the elite-caliber athlete to garner a top-100 selection, but he started for three years in the SEC and consistently earned grades above 80.0 in all three campaigns. If the Jaguars ever have an injury to one of their starting offensive tackles, he is a great “next man up” to throw into the lineup. That depth is key.

Pass Block Grade With Play Action: Javon Foster, Missouri: 90.0

Foster parlays his understanding of leverage and movement skills into success in the play-action game, particularly in Missouri’s zone-heavy scheme. The former Tiger earned a perfect 100.0 pass block efficiency rating on play action, surrendering zero pressures on over 110 snaps.

Foster is an interesting flyer.    Obviously bad that Jags cut bait on such a high pick that early.   According to Jaguar info he was a healthy scratch most of last year and really did not stand out at all.

I remember him from the Senior Bowl which was a loaded tackle class.  Bengals obviously scouted tackles and Tobin was noted watching the tackles intently at that particular senior bowl.     Of course they took Mims (don't think he was at Senior bowl).     He had plenty of reps against 1st round team mate Darius Robinson (Pick 27 Edge Cardinals).    Was on a stand out list a couple times but also struggled at times too.
