walzav29
I have heard how Boller can throw 50 yards from his knees, and I've heard that no doubt Leftwich is the best young quarterback in the league. I have also read how foolish the Bengals were for benching the perennial Pro Bowler (yeah right) Jon Kitna for Palmer because they were paying him too much to keep him on the bench. Well maybe the professional coaching staff knew that Palmer was the man. It's only 1 game but he looked great. I don't care about that last int. It was a miracle that they were even in that position considering how horrible the defense was. I never got that geeked watching any of our 10 other qbs. It's nice to have a real QB. Screw all of you Palmer doubters. So far so good. He's only going to get better.
skyline
I agree that Palmer is going to be great, but let's hold off on bashing all the critics this soon, shall we?The first game is over, and we have plenty left to play. Let's wait until the season is well under way before we start predicting a pro bowl rookie, or a basement-dwelling team...Who knows, Palmer could suck the rest of the year, and the defense could kick butt and save the team...well...maybe not. But you get my point

BengalBobNC
Agreed: It is just the first game of a long season. But Palmer did look great. He was very poised in the pocket...and sometimes lack of a pocket. With that being his first NFL start I was very impressed. We got a l-o-n-g way to go with plenty of ups and downs I'm sure. Palmer is going to face some cruel defenses along the way. Let hope our defense gets cruel on opposing teams. But for today, I'm in favor of giving Carson his due....he looked great yesterday all things considered.BengalBob
DestructoJet
I thought Palmer looked great in his first start, but lets not jump the gun. The jets had two starting dbs out yesterday, so there were three rookies in there for a good chunk of the day. The jets also keyed on the run and let the rookie qb try to win the game himself. They almost never blitzed. Also, a better set of dbs would have had a couple more interceptions. He looked very good and I agree his future is bright, but I wouldn't expevt numbers like yesterday too often this year. Tiger Stripes
palmers little 10 yard run for the first down was pretty impressive, the kid can move.
BengalszoneBilly
Let's wait until the season is well under way before we start predicting a pro bowl rookie, or a basement-dwelling team... I hardly believe that if the Bengals find themselves in the basement, it'll be any fault of Carson Palmers! The non-exsistent defense will more than likely be the cause of this debacle! What's so great about that? I expect at least that much from him every week with this offense.Furthermore what other INT's would he have thrown? That end-game INT was the only really bad pass he threw all day and even that pass wasn't horrible it was just behind CJ and a bit forced. The non-exsistent defense will more than likely be the cause of this debacle! Dead on. I've been arguing all offseason that Palmer would be fine and he did nothing yesterday to change my belief. Even with his pick at the end -- and Rudi's fumble, which IMHO did far more damage -- the offense scored enough points to win (only us, KC and Indy managed to score 24 points and lose this week). But our D has a l-o-o-o-n-g way to go.

...palmer looked awesome fellas ... he is the real deal......i agree to take a couple more weeks into account for a full evaluation ... but ... as a fan for the opposing team ... i didn't like what i saw from him all game ... the kid really has an awareness of what is happening on the field......enjoy the next 10 years with this guy ... i'm not looking forward to the next time we have to face you...l_j_r

The Bengals had one DB and LB out. Does that make Pennington any less of a QB? And they didn't need to blitz because they were caving in our O-line in the first half with only four guys.I do expect those kind of numbers. In fact I believe he will have better numbers than that on a consistent basis.

If Palmer could repeat that performance every week, he would be at 4000 yards and 32 touchdowns against 16 picks. Which would be the single greatest season statistically a Bengal QB has ever had.So, yeah, the Carson Palmer performance was spectacular. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise. As bad the defense was, the fact that Bengals had a chance at all goes to how Palmer ran that offense. His first start, 77,000 hostile fans, banged up line, and nearly mistake free football in this first start. Plus, when Bengals took the ball over on the 5, needing 95 yards to tie the game, I actually expected Palmer to get it done. That he came up short doesn't detract from the fact that I genuinely believed he could move them in that situation. I would guess his offensive teammates are feeling that time a hundred. DestructoJet
Yeah poise and leaderdhip can't be taught. Pennington has it. If yesterday was any indication, Palmer has it too.

Kirkendall
Still would have liked to see Carson avoid throwing an INT to close the game. Oh well, hopefully he'll learn next time.
Tampa Bengal
I agree Palmer looked good. I jumped on the bash Palmer bandwagon quick after the Bucs game, but he has really shown me something. I think a year on the bench really helped because he looked like a leader and knew what he was doing. The interception sucks but it is bound to happen to rookies or young QBs some time or another (see Rex Grossman yesterday). I figure get the mistakes out of the way early and start winning some games.
membengal
Still would have liked to see Carson avoid throwing an INT to close the game. Oh well, hopefully he'll learn next time. Well, of course, but no way am I blaming Palmer for that. QBs who make plays sometimes make bad ones. Brett Favre sometimes makes a bad read trrying to make a play (and still does even now late in his career). Better if the D had not forced the Bengals O to play from behind all day.Palmer played beyond well enough to have this team win. If the D had not been so inept, Palmer had them positioned to win. I think, as they take the wraps off this offense in the upcoming weeks, we will see even more points put up.Hard to teach decision making in the two-minute drill in practice. That is one area that CP has to learn in a game. He immediately said that if he had it to do over, he would have checked down. So, I would imagine, next time he won't repeat that mistake.
