ArmyBengal
It will be interesting to see what the new D coordinator puts out there.
cincyhokie
Jefferson is my least favorite pick. By a long shot. Too big of a reach with other glaring needs. I hope he proves everyone wrong, including me.
COB
Our new D coordinator certainly got his share of draft picks.

Price will help the OL a lot Bates will provide more options at S for different coverage schemes Jefferson will add a passing down option that we have not had since I don't remember when. The rest are a crap shoot, most have potential, all have weaknesses.
AMPHAR
Jefferson is my favorite pick. Number 1 we are starting to see a little thawing of at least investing in the spot instead relying heavily on UDFAs and 1 year stop gap vets that mostly have lost a step. Dawson - bust Vigil - marginal performance Hopefully this athletic backer can do more. It certainly is needed to battle Pittsburgh because they challenge you defensively to cover the entire field. They can throw the ball 5 yards and flip the feild. Got to have guys that can run in the middle of the feild.
TJJackson
RBB: Jefferson was one of the very worst picks we made, because he is a project rather than a potential starter, and we need starters From a pure athletic point of view, whats not to like? Great measurables, including superior speed and strength. I get that. I really do. But....there is more to playing linebacker in the NFL than simply possessing the prototypical body for it. It is the lack of these other qualities that makes him a project rather than a starter. Worse still, while he as the athletic gifts to be one of the greats, he seems to lack the desire to be great. He gives subpar effort and has a poor work ethic. If the Bengals are able to get him motivated, he could be a great starter a couple years down the line. But we dont have a couple years to wait right now. We need starting linebackers NOW.
COB
Jefferson doesn't like your criticism TJ. He just got off my roof (A Plus job cleaning the gutters) and he has challenged you to a race to prove to you that he's straight up baller material. He says he'll meet you at Lucas Oil Stadium, site of his greatest athletic achievement, running fast in his underwear, and he'll show you what a player he really is. He said he'll again be running in his underwear, it's kind of turning into a specialty of his. He doesn't care what you wear.
TJJackson
Perhaps the Bengals should be a professional track team instead of an allegedly professional football team

But we dont have a couple years to wait right now. We need starting linebackers NOW. We will see. I think you are forgetting that he has had 3 ( I think) different DC and schemes during his college years. He was never allowed to just play, without having to learn everything from the ground up each year. I see a very good (and fast) rotational guy, that has a really high ceiling. That is about what you get at that point of the draft. I also don't think the current LB's are as bad as you do. With Preston Brown and Rey, I'm happy with the best of the rest starting/ rotating until Burfict is back. I also think that the plan is to move Williams into the old Taylor Mays role of dropping into the box and playing three Safeties with Bates as the centerfielder. I am not the only one who liked this pick: the below is from Jesse Reed from Sportsnaut Bengals: Malik Jefferson, linebacker One of the most exceptional athletes in this year’s class, Jefferson isn’t the most instinctive linebacker out there. But put him in a spot where he is simply attacking a specific assignment and he’s going to excel. Right off the bat, he’ll likely start in place of Vontaze Burfict, who’s suspended to open the 2018 season. Once Burfict returns, don’t be surprised if Jefferson ends up starting alongside the veteran. The best part of this selection is that Cincinnati was able to land the former Longhorn in Round 3, making him a great value pick.
COB
TJ has appointed a special counsel to investigate the Malik Jefferson pick.
TJJackson
RBB: I havent forgotten that he had a different DC each year. Lapham seems to think that will help him be more versatile. I think it has hurt his development of the basics, including coverage, shedding blocks, and tackling. Bottom line, he isn't ready to be a starting LB in the NFL, and unless he amps up his want-to, he never will be COB: Mueller is too busy to handle it, given how wrapped up he is in helping rid this country of our national embarrassment, the single worst American president ever ever ever
ArmyBengal
I wasn't a fan of most of the LB's in the draft, but we needed to come away with at least one. Since we all knew it wasn't going to be Roquan Smith, Jefferson is as good as any other in my book. If Jefferson can impress the way some think he can, then I will be all sorts of happy with that pick coming from the 3rd round. My concern is not changes in coordinators, his production, his combine performance, or any of that. My concern IS the questioning of his actually desire and love of football. THAT is by far the biggest issue for him. If the reports are false, then he should be fine. If not, he will be no better than what we currently have. I happen to think our LB group, ALL OF OUR LB group, is pretty shitty. Not even an average level of play over the years. Burfict had one good season when he went to the pro bowl and then it's been injuries and suspensions. I have met and like V. Rey, but he's not a game changer either. LB has been a large weakness of this team for a while.

TJJackson
well, if you dont want to get political, it would probably be best to not claim that Obama is worse than the obvious worst - racist, sexist, bullying, lying, philandering, non-diplomatic, unrealistic, egomaniacal, and (very possibly) treasonous (for starters) - American president of all time. A man who claims that he'd date his own daughter, that Mexico would pay for a multi-billion-dollar-wall that they had no desire to see erected, and also that as long as youre rich or famous its perfectly ok to grope a woman's genitals whether they are willing to be groped or not. This disgusting embarrassment cant be impeached soon enough.
ArmyBengal
This is what happens when you are crazy rich and get caught banging porn stars. So, anyone know what the Power Ball is up to ?? I've got plans for that cash !!!
AMPHAR
So Mexico isn’t paying for the wall because we didn’t draft a Right Tackle? I’m confused. Anyway athletic Linebacker = Good when main division rival offense has the ability to flip the feild attacking all levels of a defense. Same for safety pick. Hopefully Trump builds the wall and these two players build a wall in front of the end zone.

The closest I can come to that is being broke ass poor and getting caught banging a hooker and not being able to pay while single and drunk in Germany. Not quite the high life, but good times none the less !!! This thread has taken quite the departure from the topic...
TJJackson
started down the offtopic track with COB's remark about special counsel sadly, something in our network config here at work blocks the scripts that would be blocking out Amphars ignorant posts for me, so I still end up seeing them. Ah well, guess its the cross I bear to be here with the rest of ya'all. He's not quite as bad as Gizzle, I suppose getting back on topic - I am warming a bit to the r3 DE but I still say we took 2 young DEs last year and we should have therefore used this pick on another spot, like, oh, I don't know, lets see, maybe.......ORT? ArmyBengal
I like Hubbard seeing as how I'm a Buckeyes fan, but I'm with you in regards to the two DE's from last draft. I thought I read where Jordan Willis may end up being the starter opposite Dunlap this year. Carl Lawson is the other, but he's being carried as a LB. I suppose it just depends on what Austin, the new DC decides to do. I thought Lawson more than proved he belonged in as a situational pass rushing DE at least. If they move him full time to LB (God knows our LB's suck) I think Hubbard will have the same type of success that Lawson did. I will admit that with new coaches on both sides of the ball, I am a bit more intrigued with how things will transpire on the roster this season. Then there's Marvin... I will just try hard to forget he's still here.
TJJackson
They will be wasting Lawson if they convert him to a true LB. He should be played solely as a DE....except if we run a 3-4 look, in which case he probably shouldnt be on the field
