Well, that answers the questions about Devon Still.

As someone whose daughter fell seriously ill when she was very young I can relate. It's just the worst experience in the world. I hope the girl gets well soon.

Having kids of my own, my heart breaks for him. Heck, when one of my boys are hurting or sick I always wish I could take the pain or illness upon myself so they don't have to deal with it. Cancer ?? Oh my God do I feel for him and the family. Prayers go out for him, his daughter and the rest of the family.

Here's some observations from Harvey. Among those I found more interesting...

-- It's clear the learning still is taking place for Dennard. Coaches were in his ears often, talking to him after many of the first-team plays.

-- It appears Carlos Dunlap, the end who had been playing on the left side, might end up getting real action at right end this year. Second-year lineman Margus Hunt likely would take his spot on the left side. Wallace Gilberry could rotate with Hunt at left end, with rookie Will Clarke potentially doing the same with Dunlap on the right side.

-- Jackson was none too pleased once during practice when he shouted to players about breaking the huddle too slowly.

-- It may have been easy to see that from the picture, but it was pretty evident just by watching the way he was going for passes that Green was practicing at a high level. He looked like an elite receiver at times, running through routes and catching difficult passes he could have otherwise let sail on by in a voluntary workout. He jumped at least three times for passes, including through defenders at least once.

My thoughts: No surprise Dennard is taking some time to get up to speed. But I think he'll be fine, it's way too early to be concerned. As for Clarke rotating in with Dunlap, I would be surprised to see that happen on a regular basis. OTOH no mention of Geathers here, which will doubtless send shudders of joy through all the Jumpy Jr. haters in Bengaldom. Good to see Hue getting on their arses early. No more Camp (smoke a) Jay. Also good to see Green getting after it. Sounds like having Jackson scream at him was just what he needed.

No injuries directly from the OTAs, but Still and Gresham are both question marks going forward. I know Still is dealing with that horrible situation with his daughter having cancer, but he was also knocked out by a back injury last season and the rumor mill had it as a chronic thing. I don't klnow what's up with Jermaine, but of the two, Still concerns me more since we have Geno rehabbing and talk of Clarke getting significant playing time now that MJ's gone. The d-line has been the foundation of the team's success and if it cracks to any serious degree we could be in for a long season.

Of course, it's only June. But IMO it's worth keeping an eye on.

Worth keeping an eye on indeed, but i'm somewhat comforted by the fact that the line held it's own after Geno went down.

Getting him back, even if not at 100%, is going to be a huge boost for the other DE opposite Dunlap.

I do feel bad for Still and his daughter, but yeah there were some injury concerns already.

Hope the best for him and his family.

Mandatories on tap this week. Hobson previews some things to watch:

Of all the notes this one caught my eye:

The Bengals are toying with running backs Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill being on the field at the same time. It’s an alignment that gives the defense pause because both have good hands out of the backfield.

It's also an alignment that suggests to me that Gresham's problem may be worse than they are letting on. Of course, this may not be a bad thing...

The thought of Gio and Hill in our backfield has to make Hue as happy as can be.

No one seems to be talking much about Gresham's injury, but Marvin seems to think he'll be ready for camp, so we will see.

There was an interesting factoid recently on ESPN about how good both Gresham and Eifert were in YAC.

Conversely, neither were that great in converting 3rd downs, but they didn't throw to the TE's much in those situations either.

I'm intrigued to see what Hue does to change things up a bit.

Note from Hobs:

Mike Pollak said he hasn't really been told if he's going to be at center or guard and he says that's fine because he'll be ready to do both. But he won't do it until training camp as he rests a knee that flared up during offseason training. He says he's watched rookie center Russell Bodine and says he's been impressed by his poise and ability to pick up the offense.

Sounds more and more like Bodine will be the starting center.

I guess i'm curious to what "earlier this offseason" means.

Was it 2 weeks ago ?? 2 months ago ??

I've had two hernia surgeries and while I don't think they are that bad, i'm also not the one expected to take a beating on the football field.

Time would be the key to this one. Hope he gets better sooner rather than later.

Well, teh google tells me that recovery time from hernia surgery is 1-2 weeks, but no strenuous exercise for at least 4 weeks. So it sounds like the surgery was recent if they are still keeping him completely off the field. But it sounds like he should be ready for camp.

A couple things from Coley today:

The moment when Dalton caused the most audible "ohhs" and "ahhs" among his teammates, though, came during the rushing portion of an 11-on-11 drill. Dalton faked an option pitch that completely duped the nearby defender, and the quarterback kept going through the hole untouched. In addition to all the running the Bengals are going to do this year, read options and other quarterback runs could be part of the arsenal, too. As much as his arm gets criticized, Dalton does have mobility that was seldom used the past three years. Late last season they started running more zone read for him. When they did, the offense more times than not, picked up big yards whether he kept the ball or not.

Good to hear this. After watching them toy with this last season I was hoping to see more.

Brandon Tate also had a strong showing during the practice, catching most everything thrown his way. Often he was matched against cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, who struggled to break up passes both deep and short against him. Kirkpatrick also seemed to struggle with figuring out exactly where Tate was going when he made a move. Perhaps it's simply springtime adjustments, but Kirkpatrick certainly will be one to keep an eye on as Cincinnati continues tweaking its deep cornerback group. Rookie Darqueze Dennard continues to receive action both in the slot and on the outside.

Ugh. If Glasspatrick can't even cover Brandon friggin Tate we're in trouble is Dennard doesn't come on real fast.

A couple more roster moves via Dehner:

Bengals waive LB Bruce Taylor and CB Brandon Burton.

Also signed 9th year OT Will Svitek. #Bengals

Svitek was a Chiefs draft pick back in 2005. Has been with Atlanta and NE since.

Interesting move getting a vet OT. Does this mean that Roland is no longer on the short list?

I suspect it's mostly about camp bodies with Boling rehabbing, Pollack dinged and Whit resting. But yeah, it sounds like Roland's time is up.

They call him Swagga! He's going to be great in the CFL in a year or two. It is pretty sad to see this kid flop, but that appears to be what is happening. Maybe he didn't stay in shape in the off-season so he's going to play himself into shape. But getting repeatedly torched by a depth receiver in front of all your coaches isn't a good sign.
