Watching the Chargers beat the Broncos made it look very possible that the Bengals could do the same to them. Run the ball. Balanced attack. Get some stops on Manning.

There's no reason that the Bengals don't have a chance to make it out of the AFC. None. They play solid defense and they can (now) run the ball. Big test in Pittsburgh this weekend.

It's something I've asked all year. Why not us? Three of our four losses were by 3 points or less and we've beaten several teams that are playoff bound themselves. The only team in the NFL I see who might be all around better than us are the Seahawks and they are anything but perfect. To bandy about cliches, if our team plays up to the level of their talent, we can demolish anyone.

If we go into the playoffs on a six game run not having lost in regulation since week 4, I would think even the most ardent Bengals basher would have to give them a legit chance. Having gone into the playoffs having beat the Chargers, Steelers and Lions on the road and going in undefeated at home, I would think the Bengals are just about the last team anyone would want to face in the AFC playoffs.

Yup. I asked the same question at the start of the season: if not now, when? And the Bengals seem to be hitting their stride.

This weekend's game in Pittsburgh has the potential to be a real statement game. Get in there and take care of business against a poor Steelers team in front of a national audience and people finally might wake up.

Statement game indeed! With Geno out and the way Zimmer has been using Harrison lately, this could be Harrison's coming out game! Even though he down plays it, I believe he would love to leave Pittsburgh Sunday night with his own statement, "This is what you said no to Steelers! I'm going to the playoffs again!"

After last night's upset by SD the football outsiders guys re-ran some of the playoff numbers. The Bengals' chance of winning the Big Game didn't change but a few other things did. Odds of Cincy getting the No. 1 seed in the AFC went from 2.9% before last night to 10.2%. Meanwhile, the odds that Miami or Baltimore would be the sixth seed fell and the chances of SD squeaking in rose.

Playoff scenarios and how the Bengals can finish:

(Thanks listener Dan/ESPN.com)

No. 1 Seed

NE wins out: NE No. 1

NE loses one game, Denver wins out: Denver No. 1

NE loses one game, Denver loses one game, KC wins out: KC No. 1

NE, Denver and KC each lose once, Bengals win out: Bengals No. 1

No. 2 Seed

If NE No. 1 (wins out) – If Bengals win out, Bengals are No. 2 seed with Denver loss and KC loss (Bengals win conference record tiebreaker vs. both Denver and KC)

If Denver or KC No. 1 seed – If Bengals win out, Bengals are No. 2 seed (i.e., they are No. 2 with a NE loss)

Bengals can also win the No. 2 seed with 2 wins if NE loses twice (Miami and Baltimore, perhaps)

No. 3 Seed

Bengals are no worse than No. 3 seed with 2 wins.

No. 4 Seed (i.e., win AFC North)

Bengals clinch at least No. 4 seed with 1 win and 1 Baltimore loss

This makes my head hurt.

Just win and let everything else take care of itself. bengal.gif

I'll be rooting for Miami in the early game ... 3-3 at home whilst the Pats are 3-3 on the road.

New England will either run up a basketball score or finally lose a close one.... hope it's the latter

Would be a nice added incentive for Cincy to go into the late game with a chance of sneaking into 2nd seed position :)

I hope the staff uses the Pat loss as even more incentive tonight!

I sure hope the players are fired up for this ...... Lets move into that 2nd seed spot tonight

It's probably worth noting that the Bengals weren't the only ones who failed to grasp opportunity this weekend. Denver, New England and Dallas all had open doors they couldn't get through. And someone is going to get the short end of the playoff stick tonight.

Road games in division are always hard. This isn't the end of the world. But I would feel a lot better about things with Baltimore were to lose tonight, that's for sure.
