Dude guy is on the rules committee too.

Yeah, I heard it mentioned at some point in the last couple days. Apparently the other members of the committee aren't real happy with Tomlin right now. It looks like the steelers won't lose any picks but a fine is still coming. I wouldn't be surprised if Tomlin got booted from the committee.

& I agree re: his true abilities. The further the steelers get from Cowher, the worse they've become.

Just watched it again. For the first time I noticed that Tomlin actually stepped onto the field right when Jones is almost on top of him. What a completely obvious interference move. Kick him off the competition commitee at a minimum, draft pick at a maximum. The fine is meaningless and the Steelers won't even care about it.

I heard that the mere mention that a draft pick was a thought to be taken away will keep it from happening again.

Really ?? That's just sad.

While I don't think they need to take a draft pick away from them, that is just silly at best.

Fine them heavily and move on. Kick Tomlin off the commitee for good measure.

Tomlin's press conference was mostly about this today. Ed Bouchette's twitter feed is a hoot.

I was thinking about creating a Mike Tomlin cliche drinking game. You take a swig after each cliche that he uses. Everyone would be hammered by the third paragraph. He just sounds so unnatural or contrived when he speaks sometimes.

League also said it may take away a draft pick or picks, but no decision until the final draft order is set.

(God-el wouldn't want to hurt his favorite team too much, eh?)

$100K is a lot of dough but that just doesn't seem enough to me. Sick of the apologists saying that they believe him too.

Wonder how that first competition committee meeting is going to go when someone proposes "the Mike Tomlin" rule regarding sideline behavior, etc. Dude should be off of that post.

I just saw a team get penalized because coaches and/or players were in the painted white part of the sideline, let alone on the actual playing field!!

Why didn't he get penalized for that??

To be honest, that is something I can see either Harbaugh doing in a heartbeat to win a ballgame.

I didn't quite get the part about the affect on the draft order, etc. but somewhere this week I heard it mentioned that one of the lower level playoff and draft position tiebreakers is point differential. I think the Ravens got a FG instead of a TD on the play so if the Ravens end up being affected by that play and the point differential whether in the playoffs or the draft, then the Steelers could lose a draft pick or be slotted lower. I really haven't heard it any place else but I guess that makes some sense.

Moving down a pick isn't even necessarily a penalty...because how many times is the guy taken 10 picks later turn out to a star while the earlier pick does nothing

Unless they lose an actual pick, this wont even really be a penalty

I see where you are with that, but I know it would piss me off if we were slotted to pick at #10 overall and they bumped us down to the last pick of the non-playoff teams. Sure, we still might get a better than average player, but it can make a difference for sure.

Even though I think he knew what he was doing, I don't think actually taking a pick falls in line with fair.

Had they not awarded the Ravens with a TD for the interference (which they didn't) and the Steeler won (which they didn't), I might rethink that.

Heck ,they didn't even throw a flag on the play. :frustrated:/>

The league clarifies: the Steelers will lose a late round pick. 100% chance. In the unlikely event that Jones' failure to score impacts the postseason, they will be stripped of a higher round pick. So the only question is which pick they lose. That won't be determined until after comp picks are awarded.

This is good news. That kind of stuff really has to be stopped in its tracks.

Also. - even though Tomlin said "I take responsibility for it", he never actually did. He stayed with the "blunder" excuse, which it clearly was not a blunder. It was an intentional act, and everyone including the league knows it.

It was an intentional act, admit that, and apologize for it, and then I'm a bit more ok with the situation, as it is now, Tomlin is taking responsibility for nothing.

Last week the talking heads said the punishment would be more severe if he actually admitted it. Not sure I get that but OK.

Did anyone find irony in the following two plays yesterday?

(1) Jacoby Jones' 77 TD run down the same sideline that the Tomlin issue happened and

(2) the Steeler player stepped out of bounds at the end of the game on the multi-lateral play. Maybe if Coach T had been nearby, he could have "re-directed" him towards the middle of the field.

From Peter King's MMQB page:

“Thank you Mike Tomlin for being in Pittsburgh #MPtakeover #purplesnowday” —@ravens, which was used by Baltimore native and Ravens fan Michael Phelps Sunday, after Jacoby Jones walked a tightrope down the sideline to score a crucial late-fourth-quarter touchdown to help the Ravens stun Minnesota.

and

7. I think there’s more to come on the Mike Tomlin sanction, which means I erred when I reported Friday on NBC Sports Network’s Pro Football Talk that the penalty for the Steelers will likely end with the $100,000 fine from the league. It won’t, and I apologize for the mistake. The league will either take a late-round pick from the Steelers (which, if the team gets a sixth- or seventh-round compensatory pick, would mean in essence that the team won’t get compensated for losing a mid-range free agent next spring) or diminish the value of a pick or picks by lowering one or more of them.
