Bengals @ Ravens Pregame Thread

Today's IR from Reedy:

DNP: Maualuga (knee), Still (elbow), Whitworth (non-inj. related); LIM: Bernard (ribs), Boley/Zeitler (hamstring), Gresham (groin)

Whit's on vet rest, Joe expects he'll get Wednesday's off for the rest of the season. But it sounds like he will go Sunday.

So did Boley and Gio practice or not? Sounds like we're getting conflicting reports

Ravens starting cornerback Jimmy Smith isn't practicing Wednesday during the early portion of practice open to reporters as he recovers from a strained groin suffered Sunday in a loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Smith didn't finish the Ravens' 24-18 loss to the Browns. Chykie Brown replaced him.

If Smith can't play Sunday, the Ravens' pass coverage will take a hit going into the matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals' passing game, led by quarterback Andy Dalton and All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Green. Corey Graham would start in Smith's place.

Meanwhile, middle linebacker Daryl Smith wasn't on the practice field. He was listed as not practicing with a groin injury.

Wide receiver Brandon Stokley continues to miss practice due to a lingering groin injury.

Wide receiver Marlon Brown was limited with a finger injury.

I haven't heard anything more about how Hawkins is coming along.

Now that he has a game under his belt, I wonder how he's feeling.

He had two targets with one catch for 10 yards.

With Dalton spreading the ball around to 6-8 different players, it makes for limited opportunity, but Hawkins has that speed.

It would be nice to see him get more than two targets moving forward.

add a a healthy Hawk into the line up and defensive coordinators will be nervous wrecks.

Been thinking about this a lot recently.....

Having to draw up schemes to cover a combination of Green(double or regret it), Sanu, Jones, Hawkins, Sanzenbacher, Gresh, Eifert and Bernard must be a compplete nightmare. If the O-line can give Dalton even average protection he should be able to find a favourable matchup every time. Of course, you still need the receivers to actually catch the ball......

There cant be that many teams with that much talent on the offence. Imagine what it could be like with a consistant running game, and with Bernard getting more and more touches.....

Maybe Eifert gets more targets.

Is it just me or has his route running looked rough around the edges ??

Don't get me wrong, i'm a fan and not simply looking for something to complain about, but its been noticeable.

Not as polished as I'd hoped, but he is a rookie.

Ravens getting guys back. Hensley:

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Three Baltimore Ravens defensive starters returned to practice Friday, including outside linebacker Terrell Suggs. This meant all of the Ravens' starters were on the field during the media viewing of practice.

Suggs, who missed practice Thursday with a foot injury, playfully feigned a limp when he walked past reporters before running to warm up. It looks like he'll play Sunday against the AFC North-leading Cincinnati Bengals.

Linebacker Daryl Smith (thigh) and cornerback Jimmy Smith (groin) were back at practice after sitting out the past two days of practice. Wide receiver Brandon Stokley (groin), who also missed the past two days of practice, returned Friday as well.

Hard one for me to gauge. The o line is not looking as good as I'd hoped. I really thought our weapons would have loosened up the run D by now. Have no idea what to expect from D. Lot's of guys on roster banged up. Special teams will(could) be iffy. Ravens D improved over last year. Their offense looks weak. The bunches of to's we have in number of games very disconcerting. We pretty much handed the Chicago and Miami games away on silver platter and killed our D with all the to's in the Packer game. Dropped passes and 2 or 3 brain farts by Andy (who I do believe has improved this year). I can see any possibility from blow out either way to nail bitter decided by field goal. THEN throw in the officiating - defenseless receiver, unnecessary roughness and phantom holding calls who knows? I'm glad I don't bet on these games.

This game will be over by early third. Bengals will stomp upon as bad a Ravens team as we've seen in a decade.

Bengals 31

Ravens 16

We will see the Bengals that routed the Jets. That's this team.

I wish this were a foregone conclusion ... but then again I'm a nervy fan.

With Maualuga out I think our run D is lessened, and Miller ran really well against us in the Miami game (averaging 6.6yds per carry). Rice and ex-Bengal Bernard Scott will believe they can run against us.

Flacco, although I believe over-rated and certainly not worthy of the paycheck he gets (imho) is still not THAT bad of a QB and after last weeks poor showing I expect him to be better than he has been recently - he's won games, he's won divison titles, he's won play-off games, he's won the superbowl - he knows what it takes to beat teams and so he can't be dimissed as a non-entity in tomorrows game. Stokely is a good WR although he's been limited this year and Torrey Smith is averaging 19.6 yds per catch - I'm sure they will be looking forward to going against our current secodary.

Suggs and Dumervil will exploit any weakness our O line has to offer so I expect to see quite a bit of quick, short yardage passes from Dalton to keep the ball safe and limit the sack numbers.

Turnovers will decide this game which I believe will be a close encounter ... homefield advantage but pressure on Baltimore not just to perform, but to win.

Heads says Ravens win, heart as always says Bengals at the end : Ravens 24-27 Bengals

I hope I'm wrong, but I think the Bengals have just taken one too many hits on defense. We'll be down five starters Sunday and in particular our run D has been savaged. Ray Rice may have lost a step but I don't think he will look like it tomorrow. Baltimore needs a win to stay in the playoff hunt, while the Bengals are just trying to get to the bye and a little rest. My gut says the Ravens win this one, and pretty easily. :(

I'm going to agree with Hoosier on this one. Unfortunately, I believe our BengAls have taken too many hits on defense and Flacco is a very good quarterback at home. (Something like a 99 QBR at home vs 71 on the road) plus the ravens are a desperate. Not a good feeling with this one at all. 31-21 Ravens.

Anybody see this past Thursday nights TNA wrestling? It was held in Cincinnati and two members of the Bengals were there at ring side. Now this has happened before in other cities; local pro players enjoying a night of wrestling. However I seen something that has never happened before. Two of the wrestlers started talking trash to Pac man Jones and Naquin Evans; then shoved both of them. The two Defensive Bengal starters jumped the fence, got into the ring and body slammed both wrestlers. Now I know this was rigged but it was so cool seeing two Bengal Players stomp a mud hole in two pro wrestler a$$es!! Who Dey.
