Prime Time to trade Whalen to the Colts

With Hawkins due back soon -- he was out doing drills with the other wideouts before the Detroit game -- that's not a crazy idea.

Not a crazy idea for us, but I really don't see us getting anything like that from the Colts.

Probably not. IMO it would be worth a phone call, though. Someone is going to get cut to make room for Hawkins and if we can even get a 6 or 7, may as well take it.

I don't really mind the idea, but I don't take it seriously either. This is just an extremely specific notion which, to my knowledge, has not been reflected in any actual franchise discourse publicly. Shrug.

Seems like Sanzenbacher offers the same skill set and then some.

First, the Colts lose their top receiver last night

Second, we have Lucks favorite receiver at Stanford on our roster inactive week after week

Can we get a 2014 5th rounder for him?

Or better yet, a nickel corner?

Makes great sense for both teams. I wonder if the Colts have anyone to give us. If nothing specific, take a 5th for him.

Keeping a guy on a roster just so someone else can't have them is piss poor NFL management.

Funny, Hawk gets hurt and the guy who backs him up never gets a catch. that's called being "not really good enough" right there.

Send him to Indy for anything, a loaf of rye bread maybe. heck, I'm hungry.

Well he's like 2 people Hawk

Hawk>Sanu> Sanzenbacher> Whalen

there's been stupidity over this guy for two years, probably in part because we didn't want to see him do well someplace else. Well, end the stupidity. just cut Whalen

drop a 4th tight end too.

I agree but maybe wait until we play the Colts, lol.

And how's that Orson Charles thing working out?

Great! We haven't needed him

And we run so much 2TE that Conner would have hardly been used anyways. Still makes sense.

Ehhhhh...I think the lack of a true FB can be seen in the rushing stats. The Bengals have risen to No. 9 offensively, but it's been on the strength of the passing game. The run game is sub-par in yards (19), points (19) and YPA (25). They are on pace for just under 1,600 rushing yards, which would be the lowest since 2010 (4-12). That could bite them in the second half of the season.

Is it the lack of a FB hurting that, or is that more due to the line? The line has been great in pass protection, but not nearly as good in opening up holes for our RBs. Look at how our interior was dominated yesterday against the run. Granted, against some great DL, but Conner wouldn't have helped open holes against Wilkerson and Richardson.

Line play could be an issue, too, but the line is mostly the same as last season, and rushing YPA has dropped from 4.1 to 3.6. What would be nice is stats on rushes with and without a FB from last season (Pressley/Conner played 19% of snaps last year)...

The line is the same, but Whit is banged up. Cook has been subpar, and Boling has had his struggles as well. I'm not that surprised.

But, agreed. I would like to see the numbers that you referenced.

It's interesting, but they've basically abandoned the run in several games (including the last two).

I'm guessing their newly found air attack will open up the run later in the season.

I agree. That's the way it worked out last yr. In today's NFL, the pass sets up the run, not the other way around as we were all taught to believe.

The game-team we are playing has a lot to do with it. The schedule is much more difficult and the skill guys on offense are really new this year. Sanu and Jones mostly non factors and effiert and Gino weren't here. So comparisons to last years stats hard to apply imop, I think o line has played very well. Aside from the goal line debacle, I remember several well time 4-5 yard runs keeping the Jets honest. If they can't stop us from passing, why go away from it? If the next team tries to stop pass and takes people out of the box, let's pound them. I think we have the versatility to look like a different O every week and I like it.
