2nd Round #1: Giovani Bernard

Sigh, not a fan of small Rb's with a history of durability concerns in this division. See Bernard Scott - too small for the AFC North, said on the day they drafted him as well, he will get hurt constantly. Draft these little pip squeaks later in the draft. Just my take.

That said, hope he becomes the HR/big play threat they really need from the running game, and his receiving skills will help as well obviously.

I have NO idea why they bothered to re-sign Scott and Peerman when they obviously had every intention of drafting a RB this high. Makes little sense, but the Bengals' have to be the Bengals.

There's this thing in the NFL called injuries and since you reference it, you clearly know how it works. We need depth and competition. That's how good teams do it.

Well, a nice night indeed seeing them get the RB I have liked from the start.

He's a perfect fit for the WCO and what the Bengals are looking for with a passing attack out of the backfield.

Weapons for Dalton ?? Yeah, Bernard is all that and more.

Exactly. You get it and that's why Lacy wasn't a fit here.

I saw two things from that highlight reel. One is I didn't see him getting caught from behind in the open field. Where's this lack of breakaway speed I keep hearing about? Also I didn't see many highlights of him catching passes. He'll need to do that in our backfield. That's what he was brought here to do. Also he'd better learn to pickup blitzers because Marvin will not play him until he does that

He had 5 reception TDs last season. Not sure why none of them are on the highlight packages.

Brinson: Gio will be offensive rookie of the yer and take BJGE's job and probably his lunch money too.

1. Giovani Bernard, RB, Bengals

This bandwagon, I am driving it. Good luck finding people who are as high on Bernard as I am. I think ultimately he ends up stealing the every-down role from BenJarvus Green-Ellis and winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Why is that exactly? Because Bernard can make an impact in multiple facets of the game. He's not a scatback, he's what Pete Prisco likes to call an "air back." Bernard's capable of getting out in space and generating big plays, he can be a feature runner when they need him to be, he's a dynamic pass-catching back (92 catches in 2011 and 2012 at North Carolina) and he's a force on special teams as well (ask former NC State coach Tom O'Brien about his punt-returning skills). Color me all in on Gio blowing up for the Bengals.

Gio is still my favorite pick of the draft at this point.

He's the back I wanted them to draft since very early on in the draft process.

Nice to see others sending praises his way.

Not to mention the kid is just one hell of a good person.

Bonus for the Bengals in my opinion.

The key is health. If he stays relatively healthy then I think he will do quite well. He wasn't terribly healthy in college but I'm OK with that. Sometimes guys that stay too healthy in college have the miles catch up with them in the pros like we had in Perry and Irons. I do think we're pushing our luck if we try to make an every down back out of him right away. Let's start him off in 3rd down packages and let him earn more time from there

I think that's the plan. My biggest concern is that they won't call those plays to Gio's strengths. As Brinson notes Gio is most effective when he can get into space. But for years I have watched the Bengals bring in Scott...and then call the same up the gut run they just called for BJGE or Benson.
